All those lines from “The Sound of Music” about catching a cloud and pinning it down, holding a moonbeam in your hand and keeping a wave upon the sand ran through my mind while watching the new documentary “99%: The Occupy Wall Street Collaborative Film.” Since the movement itself avoided labels, leaders and agendas, it’s next to impossible to tell its story in a way that seems remotely definitive. Not that directors Aaron Aites, Audrey Ewell, Nina Krstic and Lucian Read don’t give it their best shot, compiling footage from hundreds of filmmakers and Occupy participants and weaving together a history.

Participant Media has acquired North American rights to the documentary “99%--The Occupy Wall St. Collaborative Film,” which had its world premiere in competition at the Sundance Film Festival last week. The company plans a theatrical release followed by a broadcast premiere on the new TV network Participant is launching in August. Directed by Audrey Ewell, Aaron Aites, Lucian Read and Nina Krstic, the film looks at the Occupy movement begun in 2011 and its goal of bringing attention to income inequality across the country by taking over public parks in urban centers. Katie Teague, Peter Leeman, Aric Gutnick, Abby Martin and Doree Simon co-directed the film, which was produced by Ewell, Aites and Williams Cole. “‘99%’ provides a fascinating and involving account of the genesis of one of the most dynamic social movements in recent years, leaving the viewer inspired and full of hope,” said Participant CEO Jim Berk. “With our new TV.
