6yr old daughter loves this show
endpoint-1019 January 2019
The first 2 seasons are pretty good, even for a parent to have on in the background.. Season 3 however is pretty bad from what I've seen so far.. They recast everyone, acting is bad, and the voice work sounds like they recorded it in a cupboard! Still, my daughter still seems to like it.. baby unicorns save the rating ;)

Season one and Two are great . Would be higher score if Season three was such a let down.

Seasons one and two are beautiful story telling with an understanding and empathy that seems to have vanished in season three. The cast changes and writing seems to be more commercial and less considered.

A very kid-friendly German-Italian production about a girl, that travels between our world and the magical country of Centopia.
moritzmeyerautor3 March 2016
It has fairies, it has unicorns, it has magic and it does have a lot of pink colours for sure. At first glance, you might think of Mia and Me as a pretty ordinary TV-production. Its target audience is young girls and it throws pretty much every unicorn and fairy at them, that isn't hiding at three. So, in that sense, it's pretty unoriginal and not treading any paths, that Disney hasn't gone in the past few years.

But after having seen the entire series with my 5-year old daughter now, I have to admit, that it has it's qualities. First of all: It's absolutely unoffensive in any way. There is only a small amount of violence in it and even that is very harmless. E.g. the main enemies are stopped by shooting water at them, which has the effect of shrinking them to a size, at which they are not a threat anymore. That is a pretty nice solution to solve unavoidable fight scenes. I also like the calm pace of the stories. It's definitely not another of these shouty, hyperactive modern cartoons.

And while in the first season the characters are pretty stereotype, the authors manage to add some depth in the second season. This is especially true for the main real world antagonist Victoria. After she is drawn into Centopia, too, she suddenly finds herself torn between her antipathy for Mia, her loyalty to her new elven friends and a brooding conflict with her overly ambitious mother. This makes for some very interesting story lines, that also challenge the young viewers and makes them think about the meaning of friendship and trust.

Overall it is an OK franchise, that, after a pretty average start, developed into an interesting coming-of-age series for girls between 5 and 10 years. If they can keep that level of storytelling and character development in a potential third season, Mia and Me has a good future.

Edit for season 3: The third season is out and marks a significant drop in quality for the series, unfortunately. The plot offers a lot less interesting ideas and character development as the second season. It appears to be mostly driven by a very unimaginative quest for lost pieces of a certain crystal, that Mia and her friends need to stop a poisonous plant, that threatens to cover the entire country.

Important to know for parents is also the rise in violence and tension, that definitely has the potential to disturb younger viewers. This has mainly to do with the new villain "Dex", a man-bug, who is accompanied by four other creatures, who have insect origins. Their attacks are much more hostile and violent and often involve direct physical attacks like hitting a person or slamming him or her to the ground. We haven't seen this in the previous seasons at this level. They also look much scarier than the goofy Rixel or the androgyne Muncs from the first season.

Finally, this new installment also introduces a new "Mia", as Rosabell Laurenti Sellers has grown to old to play the teenage character of Mia again. Her replacement Margot Nuccetelli does a fine job, though, and was quickly accepted by our audience at home.

marinabreault1 January 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Season 3 of Mia and me is the worst. They replaced all the actors voices with horrible new actors(if you can even call them that) which my daughter has grown to love. OMG it's unbearable to watch. Definitely a 👎👎

great show for kids
iowastate-119 September 2014
If you have a daughter who likes "My Little Pony", The Disney Fairy movies about Tinkerbelle and her friends, the Harry Potter films and that sort of thing then she would enjoy "Mia and Me".

It is about a young girl who is off at boarding school so she is trying adjust to new people and living conditions. If you remember your schooldays there are mean girls and nice girls this is all I will say about that.

Her daddy though happens to be a game developer and made her a game based on stories he used to tell when she was quite young. All about the magical land of Centopia with fairies and unicorns. To her her great surprise and joy it turns out that she can play the game and actually wind up in the land of Centopia as a fairy herself.

Thus the title of the show. Mia and me....Mia (when on earth) and me(when in Centopia) at least until the timer runs down.

but then that is part of the game and you really should watch the show and find out how it works that way. also find out about the people on earth and her friends in Centopia where she really has her best times with MO the prince of Elves, Yuko the warrior girl and the unicorns, especially Onchoa the flying unicorn.

there is more but I'm not giving out any spoilers - watch the show with your child(ren) and let them enjoy the experience. This is one of the best children's shows yet and my little daughters favourite show ever, even more than Lion, Witch and Wardrobe.

It's fine
thetick-658483 January 2020
If you have a child that enjoys fairies and elves and unicorns and such, then this is something else for them to watch. It's a fantasy show where a real life (live action) teenage girl is magically transported to a (CG animated) land of flying elves on occasion. Season 1 is formulaic with the new girl in school and the school bullies and the outcast friends. Lessons are learned, friends are made, bullies get their comeuppance, and in the fantasy land the heroes band together to defeat the villain. Season 2 gets more complex. The focus is on the main character and her school bully as they both spend a summer on their respective families' houses in the country. The stakes are higher and we learn more about the families of the characters. The antagonist even gets to join in on the fantasy adventures and gets her own redemption arc. The fantasy story involves freeing animals and finding characters and solving puzzles and has a little more to it than the last season. Season 3 is weird and different but ultimately inoffensive. All of the actors are replaced, there's a new Mia and a new voice cast and new characters. The fantasy story is just a rehash of Season 1. The new cast is fine. It's admittedly less engaging than the first two seasons, but it'll do for anyone wanting to see Mia go on more adventures. It's fine.

Seasons 1 and 2 were great!

What happened in season 3? The acting is terrible. All the voices are different. They didn't even try to make them similar. Sad.

Loved it as a child

Warning: Spoilers
As someone who used to watch the show when it aired on Nick Jr I can tell you it's a great show. Ya the show has it flaws but it's honestly a nice show, so in my opinion I'd recommend the show to little girls who love magical shows like this.

1 & 2 were great
maizeycross9 January 2022
Seson 1 and 2 were amazing combining children's favourite thing like fairy's and unicorns. And the traveling between different world is genius, however season 3 has an entirely different cast and story line witch gets pretty confusing. They should have just stopped at seson 2 with the old cast.

Season 3 ruined it
claudiaconstance7 February 2021
They should have just stopped this show after season 2. I used to watch it with my daughter it was so fun. A girl turns into a fairy, switching from real like to an imaginary cartoon world. It was interesting and smart. But the main actress left after season 2, fine, she had other gigs. They just should have stopped Liz instead they got new writers, and a whole new cast, and voila, a piece of crap. Bad acting, poor writing. I was almost as annoyed as seeing The Originals canceled for the crappy Legacies, but that's another show and story altogether.

Discount Tinkerbell/ My little Pony combined
practicallypeach27 September 2014
It's not horrible. Really. It's just that there are much better shows out there that do the same thing. The Tinkerbell movies do a very good job creating its own lore and characters full of whimsy and wonder. My little pony does this as well. But this simply takes elements from both shows and combines them into a semi-regularly airing show. Do you want fairies? You got it. Do you want unicorns? You got it. Do you want magic and a fantasy world? Done. This show does add something else though. Instead of just taking place in a fantasy land, a non-cg girl travels from the real world to the world of Mia and me when beckoned.

It fills the gap while better shows aren't airing.

Stereotypical
toddberliner25 July 2016
I fear the day my daughter wants to be identified by a skirt that extends 1" past her pelvis and is only interested in men of royalty. I suppose it's pointless to resist pop culture, but that's what this show pedals.

The pre-pubescent teenage girl transports to a magical world in which she wears a bathing suit that features a low-cut top and a microscopic skirt. Her intentions are good, the unicorns are cute, but the whole message is confused, in my mind, by the male and female stereotypes that are in overdrive here along with the physical objectification of both genders.

Warning: Spoilers
I can't stop laughing at how bad the acting is, but did anyone stop to explain to this actress how blind people perceive everything?
