One-note soft porn, so odd it's almost interesting
Incompetence is the driving force behind EVERYBODY GOES APE, an obscure title listed in passing in the AFI's Catalogue of '60s film releases, which I finally got to see courtesy of a Marsha Jordan tribute by Alpha Blue Archives.
Its premise is familiar, Harold resents his colleague next door selling the same stuff so he gets a chemist to lace the water cooler in Stagg's office with a powerful aphrodisiac concoction. It causes the employees to remove their clothes and make love non-stop, but the twist is that customers visiting there get serviced and sales skyrocket, while Harold's sales plummet.
The key word is non-stop, because this hour-long soft-core exercise devolves into wall-to- wall sex, just like so many hardcore features but without shots of penetration or any money shots.
It got very dull, but casting big-breasted women was enough to keep me interested. Besides the genre's superstar Marsha Jordan, uninhibited as always, there is a quite unattractive plumper, and then a mystery gal who deserves further research. She keeps looking towards the camera for some direction, indicating she was inexperienced in making films. Her claim to fame on the evidence of this movie is that the brunette possesses natural cone-shaped large breasts with huge aureolae that even surpass the look of the best soft-core actress with that trait, Cara Peters.
The inept cameraman doesn't focus on her breasts, and much of the film is presented in master shot. At one point it seems like the crew has left the camera running and gone on a break, as an orgy is shot so distantly you can't see what's happening, and a still phtographer at left of frame briefly sneaks into view to (presumably) snap a publicity shot.
Acting, in particular lead clown who plays Harold, is miserable -Harold stumbles over even the simplest of dialog and would get the hook at any Improv comedy club in the nation.
