Cheesy but sweet...
LiveLoveLead8 April 2024
Romance. Christian. Cheesy but sweet! Not for everyone, but if you enjoy Hallmark flicks (and Christian films), you'll probably enjoy this IMHO. Really liked Jake Allyn (as Dawson) He said a lot with his eyes and body language, and he's adorable. I wish the writing, directing and acting were stronger, but it got a little better as it went along. And there were definitely plot holes, especially in regards to HIPAA (releasing health info to others). This is adapted from a Karen Kingsbury book (Christian author) and this is the first of her books that she produced under her own production company. I think the director/co-writer, and some other people that contributed to the film, are related to Mrs. Kingsbury as well. Definitely wouldn't give it a 9 or 10, but it doesn't deserve a 1 or 2 either IMHO! (5 from my hubby, 6 from me...but I do enjoy Hallmark movies...LOL)

Movie Better Than Book
crtvgrl5 April 2024
Warning: Spoilers
We need more clean movies and this delivers! The book has some problematic issues that the movie screenplay resolves. Is it realistic? Well, no. I'm still trying to understand how Dawson received any confidential information on London's potential sibling's whereabouts. Confidential is confidential. He should not have been given ANY information on who received the embryo. Then, conveniently he "Googles" and finds the sister almost instantly. Very unrealistic! Also, in real life you cannot just sit and stare at a stranger all day and expect them to talk to you and perhaps not be asked to leave the premises or be arrested. Oh my! Why Andi would even listen to Dawson after he basically stalked her, I have no idea. They could have changed how Andi found out she was an adopted embryo and made it much more believable. I still liked the movie, though. It's a struggle to find a good, clean movie these days.

A Refreshing Change of Pace
stratos-154403 April 2024
With all the turmoil going on in this world we now live in, it was quite refreshing to see a nice change of pace with this movie . It's heartfelt touching on love, tragedy and faith. It is a nice combination of the three. There is definitely a religious Christian vibe to this flick, but it in no way force feeds an agenda. I personally enjoyed the Christian aspect but for those who are not interested in it, it should in no way interfere with the overall theme of the movie. What's very impressive is that the movie is considered "low budget" but by no means was it apparent. Highly recommend spending a few hours watching to escape the reality of everyday life.

Feel Good Faith Based Movie
curtoon-748018 April 2024
You'll most likely enjoy or dislike this movie. If you are a believed, then go see it! It's refreshing to watch a movie that has Christian values infused throughout along with no profanity or violence.

Even if you are not a Christian or do not believe there is a God, I encourage you to check out this movie. It's a cute love story. The scenery is beautiful and the movie proceeds at a good pace.

I cried at different times during the movie, which show the storyline is believable and compelling.

The movie industry is filled with demonic and violent movies that are harmful to your soul. Fill your mind and heart with a movie that is touching, positive, and enjoyable.

A wonderful surprise!
dimarcx6 April 2024
Relevant theme. Superbly scripted. Creatively filmed. Artfully acted. This movie drew me into the story with all its surprising twists. Traditional characters living a traditional life until tragedy and joy gripped them at the same time. A story of separation and joining bringing two families together and a love affair out of this world. Covers penetrating topics that force difficult decisions in unexpected ways and with unexpected results. Basically, hold tight to life with all it surprising twists that mirror who you really are and become pivotal detours that may or may not offer unexpected changes in relationships.

What the hell did I just watch??????
mayahsimonewilliams3 April 2024
Warning: Spoilers
This movie was very uncomfortable. SPOILERS

They pretty replaced the dead chick with her sister? That's is very odd, and the bf just gets with the sister? The whole movie was cringy and uncomfortable. I don't know who would come up with an idea like this. Oh daughter dies random other daughter comes and replaces her whole life. Thank god I got to watch this for free. Why were there people clapping? How would like it if you died and you sisters started dating your husband? I don't know how this movie even got into the theaters. The only good thing in the movie was the dog, and the "big papa" step father.

Great clean love story.
mizeamandaw3 April 2024
Now, I was already a fan of the book, Someone Like You, and was very excited to see it come to life. It was a well done movie and I'm so thankful for the Christian theme that was throughout. I appreciate the team that made this movie and showed again that it doesn't have to have explicit things to make a good movie. I do feel like the book was better because things were able to be more developed, but that is usually true for any book made into a movie. I am hopeful that many people see this movie and enjoy it. If you go to the website you can actually can get a movie ticket for free from donations if you are unable to buy one. Thank you Karen Kingsbury for how you unashamedly give praises to God and your books point others to Him!! Praying this movie does the same.

Corny
storeemail-968113 April 2024
Warning: Spoilers
The movie is dragged out and extremely corny.

Very predictable, actors weren't horrible but not good either. The story line when said out loud is just stupid. Several people left before the movie ended and looking around some people where even asleep. Not captivating.

"Spoilers" Guy in love with girl 10 years but couldn't find it in him to tell her, girl dies Guy "stalks/does research" to find dead girls sister and brings her to his hometown/london (dead girl's) parents Family of dead girl is in grief and is now replacing their daughter with a girl they know for a total of 3 days Not replacing but they have her do the same things their daughter did sleep in her room work the cafe.

Not worth the 2 hours.

Hopeful, Captivating and Super Cool to be in my Hometown!
ashtonmize-601863 April 2024
I personally loved this movie. I loved the book and thought I'm a firm believer of book over movie this movie did a wonderful job of making me evaluate that view. The actors were great and the directing was phenomenal. I loved Andi and Dawson and thought their love story was beautiful. The family dynamics were real, raw, and very well done. It was so cool to see things in my own hometown and the scenes from Smith Lake were beautiful. All of the music was wonderfully chosen. It is the tiniest bit fast paced on parts that needed to be drawn out. Yet, way too slow on parts that needed to be faster. Regardless, a wonderful movie with the cutest dog: Toby!! This is a refreshing clean movie that is a definitely go see!!

To God be the Glory.

WORST MOVIE I'VE SEEN
dyellz3 April 2024
This was the most cringey movie I have ever watched. Imagine a hallmark movie but with less of a plot and even worse acting. The acting was so fake, it felt like was watching a high school project students made for extra credit. The plot made absolutely no sense. They did a terrible job at making you feel connected or care about any of the characters. I did not care what happened to anyone in this movie. This "love story" made no sense at all and the entire movie felt like an half baked idea that someone how got enough funding to turn into a movie. I am really wondering to myself what did I just watch. Are all these rating are fake?? Did they watch the same movie I saw??!! I would recommend seeing any other movie besides this one.

such a beautiful film!!
nicoletchidester8 April 2024
I love this sweet story! I have loved these characters since reading the book about a year ago, and it was beautiful to see them come to life on screen! The cast that was chosen is perfect for these roles and Tyler Russell's direction of them makes it hard to believe this is his first film. I was also blown away by the locations that they shot at because each scene was absolutely gorgeous! And as a Nashville local, I loved seeing all the scenes shot around middle Tennessee. This story is a message of grace, hope, restoration, and love! I encourage you to see this movie and bring a friend! Thank you Karen Kingsbury for always using your gifts to point people to Jesus!

Love love loved it!
stephdhayes5 April 2024
Having read the book years ago and being an avid Kingsbury fan I couldn't wait to see the film.

I loved it! The story centered around a subject that I hadn't thought much about but I thought it was done very well. I also appreciate how things turned out in the end. Life can be challenging and messy but keeping the main thing the main thing, that love and family make all the difference. In a world where people do t take the time to see things from others point of view and be respectful of those views this was well done.

I thought the movie kept pretty close to the book and that was important.

So thankful for this movie and my prayer is that we will see more of them and lives will be impacted as a result!

objectively bad
hgott236 April 2024
This movie is so bad. The acting, the dialogue, the plot - all bad. Most Hallmark movies put on a better production than this movie. Lowkey kinda feel ripped off that I saw this in theaters. I wan not impressed with either love interest. The pacing is slow but yet everyone still feels under developed. What do we have to do to get a good romance movie.

I appreciated a good clean atory. I appreciated that the characters had spiritual focused lives, you don't see that too often in movies anymore.

I would love to know if the dialogue in the book is as bad as in the movie. Feels like this could have been done better.

SO WORTH IT!
musicbug-884016 April 2024
Following Karen for years and reading her material I was more than thrilled that she made this film. I knew that with her and her son producing the film, she was going to stick true to the book. It's an amazing film and the cast did great! It's not a usual "cringy Christian" film as people say. It's real, honest and truly wonderful just like the real Christian's live. It's shows was true forgiveness, mercy and love is like. In a time when the world needs these values the most, it was truly God's timing. I can't wait to see what she has planned next! And I am so proud that she was able to make this dream come true.

Wow. Absolute garbage.
phoenix_ar7 April 2024
First of all, I should say that I'm not the target audience for this movie. I took my wife to this for a date night because she wanted to see it. With that being said, this movie is awful. I tried to give it a chance .... But the acting was horrible and the story was just ridiculous. I found myself actually laughing out loud at some of the "serious" scenes because the acting was bad. There was no character building, no plot that made any sense, and nothing that made me like ANY part of this movie. Like others have mentioned, it was like watching a bad Hallmark after school special movie. Avoid this. Save your money.

Simply beautiful!!
maddieb-765323 April 2024
As a reader and lover of all Karen's books I'm beyond impressed and when you remember that this was done with no studio or anything it makes it that much more impressive.

The cinematography was stunning and the actors fell naturally into their roles. I didn't want it to end! It felt so immersive. I'm so impressed with the directing from Tyler Russell (one of Karen's son) and I would love to watch more of his work.

All of the actors are incredible. Content like this is so needed in this world and I've been so blessed by Karen and all her stories and I pray that I'm able to write my own stories some day that move people like hers have moved me. I'm always going to recommend her work to people, no matter what it is.

Avoid at all costs
tinapettingill13 April 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Someone Like You is the most cringy and disturbing movie I've seen in a long time- maybe ever. Not even sure where to begin- it was absolutely awful with terrible acting all around, an inappropriate music score and bad film editing. The story line is unrealistic, ignores the real grief of losing a child, adds in an almost unrelated (and also unrealistic) kidney transplant storyline and ends with the lead character falling for his dead girlfriend's sister- um- gross.

Oh, and the religious overtones were close to cult-like- coming as close to saying "life begins at ejaculation" as possible without actually saying it out loud.

Only redeeming quality was the dog- he was cute.

Don't go unless you have time to shower afterwards.

jawsmw10 April 2024
I loved everything about it. It had sadness love and most importantly faith. I highly recommend this movie they did a fantastic job producing this movie. I want to see it again. Get a bunch of church groups and go see it. I think it's a great date movie and bring tissues. My mom and I both loved it. Karen did a fantastic job the actors were awesome and it was produced and directed really good. I give it 10 stars. Share this must see movie with everyone you know it just got extended for another week. I'm so excited about this. I won't give it away for those who haven't seen it yet. But go see it.

Wholesome romance
signsuz12 April 2024
Loved being able to go to a movie that I knew would be a romance, yet would maintain a wholesome atmosphere. A follower of all books written by Karen Kingsbury, the Baxter series is one of my favorites. I loved the beautiful scenery, especially the fall mountains and lakes. I have never been to the Nashville Zoo, but seeing some of the area displayed on film makes me want to put that on my bucket list. Hoping some other stories from Karen's series, such as Forgiving Paris, will be made into a movie. The only suggestion I could make is that it could have moved at a slightly faster pace. Loved it. Will probably go see it again with more friends.

disturbing
stevencayer7 April 2024
Technically, the past 4 movies I have seen were all faith-based: ORDINARY ANGELS, CABRINI, LATE NIGHT WITH THE DEVIL (different kind of faith), and the one I'm reviewing today, SOMEONE LIKE YOU. Straight from the get-go, everything about this romance movie is problematic. This is based on a book written by the "Christian fiction Queen" Karen Kingsbury, using her new production company "Karen Kingsbury Productions". Directed by Tyler Russell (Karen's son), this is a story about a man named Dawson who is just about to escape the "Friend Zone" of his best friend London, who gets hits by a car and dies. Her parents tell him she might have an IVF sibling. He goes on a hunt (stalker mode activate!). A creepy cringey romance ensues! There are a couple of good emotional scenes, but the overall creepy tone completely threw me off. This is a "Hallmark movie" that somehow made it to the big screen. I want to see more realistic romance movies. I know this is counterintuitive to what the genre is known for, but still. SOMEONE LIKE YOU feels earnest, but I can't recommend it unless you're a Christian.

Absolutely, an Outstanding Movie. A Must See
austinsgod11 April 2024
A story of hope and healing. What a great production with wonderful actors. There are not enough clean entertainment anymore. This movie is wholesome with a wonderful storyline. A definite must see. Honestly, I can watch this movie again and again. This romance is not without it's difficulties, like real life. The storyline is surrounded by hope, healing, and love. We all can use a little of that when life knocks us done. A great reminder as you walk out of the theater. I hope you will enjoy "Someone Like You" as much as I have. We will definitely be streaming it once it is available. Happy Movie date.

Why the name change?
auntiechar6 April 2024
Warning: Spoilers
In the books, London's sister is Maddie Baxter-West and her parents are Brooke Baxter and Peter West and they're part of the Baxter family of books. Why change the girl's name to Andi Allen and not connect her adoptive family to the Baxters? I didn't understand that part, considering their names weren't changed in The Baxters series which was just on Amazon Prime. Also, how Dawson was given even one bit of confidential medical information about the Quinn's embryo in order to find Andi in the first place was amazing. Has no one heard of H. I. P. A. A.? The movie was a bit corny, and probably not for those who haven't read the books or who don't like Christian romance movies.
