The first Kolkata People’s Film Festival will take place in Kolkata from 20-22 January, 2014. The festival will kick off with Gurvinder Singh’s Anhey Ghorey Da Daan while Bikramjit Gupta’s Achal (The Stagnant) will be screened as the closing film.
The festival will see the screening of new feature and documentary films from India and some documentary classics as well. Filmmakers Sanjay Kak, Moinak Biswas, Ranu Ghosh, and Bikramjit Gupta will be present for a Q&A session post the screening of their films Red Ant Dream, Sthaniya Sambaad, Quarter no. 4/11, and Achal (The Stagnant) respectively.
This is the 35th edition of a series of independent film festivals organised by Cinema of Resistance in North Indian cities and towns over the last 8 years. These festivals have been open to all and have been funded by people with no governmental or corporate sponsorship.
