Season 4 launches the audience into the action straight away. The pacing of this episode was absolutely relentless. I have to say this might be the best season of the show yet, but I'll reserve my final thoughts for later.
Portrait of the Artist is one of the series' very best. Joe is actually trying to do some real good and wants to genuinely move on. But the stalker becomes the stalked. The director does a great job at making you stressed and on edge. The quick editing and development are more than effective. The unknown puts your mind in some sort of state and you're looking and watching all the time because you want to figure out who the murderer is.
It's crazy that this is only episode 2. You get the sense that Kate is putting up a certain facade too. On the soundtrack front, the music delivers the thrills. Once again, it feels like the show is reinventing itself, but staying true to its roots at the same time, which was needed I think for a Season 4.
And the ending was absolutely creepy and mindblowing. You get the sense the killer has been building his case against Joe for quite some time... So who might it be ? Who knows ? Maybe someone from the past ? The denouement is certainly unpredictable here, in the sense that you really don't know who it is, and there is multiple angles to analyze. Good job.
