Thomas Kretschmann (Professor Abraham Van Helsing) previously played Dracula in Dracula 3D (2012), making him one of the two actors to have played both the Count and his great rival, the other being Rutger Hauer, who co-starred with Kretschmann in Dracula 3D as Van Helsing. Kretschmann also played Dr. Frankenstein in a 2004 made-for-cable film, making him the only actor to have played both Van Helsing and Dr. Frankenstein since Peter Cushing.
Alexander and Mina never kiss in the present day only in flashbacks. The only time when they do kiss is in the last episode (ep 10) at the end of the episode.

In the past Dracula movies, Lucy is a brunette and Mina is a blond. Their hair colors switch in this interpretation, as well as Dracula playing an anti-hero in lieu of a villain.
