When Shawn introduces Gus to Rita, he calls him Marvin "Bad News" Barnes, presumably because Gus has bad news to deliver. However, Marvin Barnes is a real person. He was a former NBA basketball player, the 2nd overall pick (after Bill Walton) in the 1974 draft. He earned the nickname "Bad News" from his rough play on the court and for his numerous off the court legal problems. He played professionally for 6 seasons, not including time spent in Europe and semi-pro leagues.
Anthony Michael Hall is the fourth of the five young stars of the 1985 movie "The Breakfast Club" to make a guest appearance on this show. Other former guests include Ally Sheedy, Judd Nelson, and Molly Ringwald. This makes Emilio Estevez the only principle cast member of the 80's classic never to do a guest appearance on "Psych". These guest spots are also a great tie-in since so many of Shawn and Gus's references are from the 1980's.
Anthony Michael Hall starred in The Dead Zone series in which he played a psychic and was always trying to convince the police of his abilities.
At the beginning of the episode, as Shawn, Gus, Lassiter and Jules are getting reprimanded by Vick, over Vick's right shoulder the plaque the mayor presented her with in S7E10 can be seen hanging on her wall in her office.
Anthony Michael Hall guest stars in this episode. In season 7 premiere episode "Santabarbaratown 2," Shawn complains the FBI agent taking over his case (guest star Jake Busey) is "standing there with his Anthony Michael Hall-ish face!"
