Still Up will not be returning for a second season. The romantic comedy series debuted on Apple TV+ in September 2023 and has now been cancelled.

The story follows a pair of insomniacs -- socially anxious yet gifted journalist Danny (Roberts) and free-spirited illustrator and mother Lisa (Thomas). Lisa and Veggie finally had it out in Still Up Season 1 Episode 8, but did they say everything that needed to be said?
Veggie had to track Lisa down at Danny's because she left the house in the middle of the night once again.
We know Lisa has chronic insomnia and spends most nights on the phone with Danny, but exactly how often does she leave the house while Veggie and Poppy are sleeping?
From Veggie's point of view, that must be unnerving.
But this time, Veggie finally had the courage to ask Lisa what the hell was going on with them.
Lisa left the house to go to a storage unit that he didn't know she had to retrieve the hobby horse his father made that Lisa despises.
Although this is about so much more than a storage unit, it is a microcosm of their issues.

Will Lisa and Danny become the best of friends again, or will their relationship take a different turn? Let us hope for the tangles to become manageable by the end of this episode! AppleTV's Still Up is a lot of things.
It's quirky, funny, endearing and heartfelt. It has characters I've grown to love.
But after Still Up Season 1 Episode 7, I have no idea where this is going.
It's clear that Veggie loves Lisa. And I'm fairly certain that Danny would jump at the chance to have a real relationship with Lisa that didn't center on late-night phone calls.
But what does Lisa want? I'm not even sure that Lisa knows.
And that's a problem because with only one installment left in Still Up Season 1, will she figure it out?
Things are tense between Lisa and Veg. Veggie is trying so hard to be helpful, and that's part of his personality. So, where someone else might find Veggie's sleepy-time tea and sleep-inducing yoga videos overbearing, Lisa does seem to realize that it comes from a place of love.
But Lisa hides a lot from Veggie,...

She's back!
Did you ever think Danny would see Amy again after their disastrous date on Still Up Season 1 Episode 3?
This is the woman who was going to call it quits on Danny after their first date because she thought Lisa was an ex he was still hung up on, and who could blame her given the number of phone calls Danny took from Lisa that night.
And that was before Danny chopped her finger off in his door! As if that wasn't horrific enough, then he popped the detached joint into his mouth!
In Danny's defense, the finger severing was a complete accident. As for the rest, he was told that it was a good way of preserving the digit in the hopes of reattachment.
So, is it endearing that Danny would do something so gross to help Amy keep her finger, or simply stomach-turning?
We're leaning toward the entire incident being nauseating,...

Danny battled through his agoraphobia during Still Up Season 1 Episode 6 and he did it for Lisa.
But will realizing that Lisa plans to marry Veggie send him back into his home for another three years?
Or will Amy be willing to convince Danny to leave the protection of his safe zone and explore the world?
When you think about it, the women in Danny's life have a profound effect on him.
Danny's anxiety attacks and agoraphobia began after he and Chloe broke up, and three years later, the hope of reuniting with her had him applying for a job in Los Angeles.

Danny is ready to help Lisa under any circumstances, even if that means walking out of the house in the middle of the night. It is worth mentioning how in the 6th episode of Still Up, Danny overcomes his social anxiety and steps out of the house, just to go and help a drunk Lisa. How the thought of Veg proposing to Lisa affects Danny in a subtle manner until he again comes across Amy in the middle of the road also gains a significant point. Danny’s feelings have grown slowly, but they have bloomed for sure, as we can see him zoning out after pondering what Lisa says. Will Danny be able to help Lisa in her vulnerable state? When I saw the title of Still Up Season 1 Episode 5, I had one thought. What the hell is Veggie Veggie Bing Bong?
After watching this installment from beginning to end, I still can't say I know anything besides it's a ridiculous game made up by Veggie's family that involves throwing ham at the loser.
What type of insanity is that?
I suppose we should be grateful they're only flinging slices of the lunch meat variety of ham at Lisa's face. If it were actual ham steaks, the poor woman could have gotten hurt.
Would Lisa have still sat there and taken it just to make Veggie happy? Maybe. And that's what was so disturbing about this camping trip.
Lisa hated camping but was willing to go on this trip because she wanted to spend family time with Poppy and Veggie.
But when Veggie heard "family time," he didn't think of just him,...

A lot happens over the course of 26 minutes in the fifth episode of Still Up. The difference in opinions between Lisa and Veg is seen when she thinks that they were going to spend some quality time at a camping site together, but Veg invites his parents. We see her vexed about participating in small talks and silly games with Veg’s parents. Despite being on a camping trip with her family, she does not seem to be enjoying her time there, as she seems to be burdened by the expectations of her mother-in-law, Christine. She seems to be more interested in what Danny is doing at home. On the other hand, Danny is stuck at his home with a builder, who has been telling him about his relationship problems, and he patiently puts up with it. How he helps Lisa win the game of ‘Veggie Veggie Bing Bong’ is...

Lisa checks into a sleep clinic, Danny babysits a dog, and a bombshell is dropped about someone's relationship that I never saw coming on Still Up Season 1 Episode 4.
We'll start at the sleep clinic since it is the title of this installment.
Lisa checks herself in, and you can feel the wave of relief that rolls off Veggie. Living with someone who is up all night all the time can't be much fun.
Although Lisa's inability to take the sleep study seriously is comical, it actually hurts to know that Veggie is out there hoping that this will bring them both some relief.
Little does he know that Lisa can't even put her phone away for one night.
This makes me wonder, does Lisa really want to find a cure for her insomnia? In some ways, her insomnia gives her an excuse to live a whole other life after Veggie...

The two worlds of Lisa and Danny are so different yet so similar! Lisa worries about losing the time that she gets with Danny once he moves to Los Angeles for work. Danny takes in a neighbor’s dog, Daisy. who has similar traits as that of him. He also gets to know certain things about his past relationships from Lisa that he had no idea about. Lisa creates a mess at the sleep clinic by defying all the rules and is escorted off the property. Does the sleep clinic really help Lisa? Does she really want to get rid of her insomnia? We are yet to find that out in season 1, episode 4 of Still Up.

Lisa and Danny are best friends who have issues. And those issues have nothing to do with their insomnia.
As a matter of fact, I wonder if their strange relationship somehow incentivizes them to be up all night.
But it all seems harmless enough during Still Up Season 1 Episode 1 as Lisa chats away with Danny and runs out to the pharmacy to get her daughter, Poppy, some calamine lotion for her chicken pox.
I couldn't help but wonder if they have the chicken pox vaccine in the UK because I don't know any kids who get chicken pox anymore here in the US.
But I digress.
The bigger issue is Lisa's slightly askew moral compass.
When Poppy first showed symptoms of the illness, instead of taking the child to the doctor or putting her to bed, Lisa made a special sheep mask Poppy could wear on her class trip so...

Bound by chronic insomnia, best friends Danny and Lisa have created their own weird world in the late hours when things are at their weirdest. During the day, though, they live in a world apart. Does distance really make the heart grow fonder? Still Up, is streaming on Apple TV and it is quite evident from the series that the distance has been making the hearts of both Lisa and Danny grow fonder. Danny has been giving the smallest details of his day to day life to Lisa and talking to her in a manner as if she were present in his apartment. The third episode focuses on the efforts that both of them put into each other rather than elsewhere. They love each other’s company and are attracted to each other secretly but are reluctant to accept it, or maybe they are just oblivious to their own feelings. Lisa is shown to prefer the company of Danny over her husband. Danny has also been reciprocating by taking all her calls and returning her texts, even while on a date with Amy. Just when...

Not sleeping in the is a big problem for many people but if they had a best friend who is also up with them, could it be really fun. The new Apple TV+ series Still Up answers that question through a sweet story about two friends Lisa and Danny suffering from insomnia, who are connected mostly through video calls.
Created by Steve Burge and Natalie Walter, Still Up has a small cast and it does a good job of focusing on the important storylines through them while also establishing their eccentricities and wants in the story seamlessly. We never feel that any of the characters in the series are out of place or forced in the story.

People tend to become clumsy when they are dealing with a lot of hurdles, they say. Says who? Well, I am not quite sure about that, but Danny and Lisa have been tackling a lot of stuff, even though their lives may appear simple from a bird’s-eye view. Still Up Epiosde 2 is a subtle peek into the lives of both Lisa and Danny and the way they are dealing with things. The pigeon stuck in Danny’s house, clumsily flying around and finally hitting the wall, depicts his own state of life. Danny has been dealing with the issue of garnering the pleasure of being with a woman, and Lisa, on the contrary, has just been struggling to put up with her seemingly perfect life. Steve Burge and Natalie Walter, in their series Still Up, have been aiming to make things more interesting for the audiences with each passing episode.

Would you mind falling in love with a person you connect with instantly and talk to for hours over regular late-night video calls? The slow spark between Danny and Lisa builds up at the very beginning of the series Still Up without their realizing it. The romantic comedy thrives on the worlds of the two friends who are insomniacs, catching up with each other on routine late-night video calls. Created by Steve Burge and Natalie Walter, the handling of the major characters has been left to the deft hands of Craig Roberts and Antonia Thomas. The comic-buildup on romance is sudden and unexpected at the end of the episode when the characters match on the dating app, before which everything seemed to be a platonic conversation between the two friends.
Spoiler Alert
The bond between Danny and Lisa grows at a slow pace. But it’s sure to take greater turns in the future.

There’s a point midway through When Harry Met Sally when the two leads, both unable to sleep, find themselves on the phone. The actual conversation isn’t about much of anything — past relationships, what’s on TV, the ending of Casablanca. But what comes through loud and clear is the connection between them, so easy and comfortable that any fool can see they’re meant to be together.
Apple TV+’s Still Up is a whole series of When Harry Met Sally phone calls, placed between insomniac besties Lisa (Antonia Thomas) and Danny (Craig Roberts). Like their big-screen forebears, they fancy themselves “just mates”; like them, it’s evident to nearly everyone around them, us included, that they’re destined for romance. All that’s missing, alas, is When Harry Met Sally‘s most crucial ingredient: the magical chemistry to make us root for them to get there against all odds.

Fall is in the air — and on the air, as networks and streamers prepare to roll out major September TV premieres. Many 2023 releases (including those in IndieWire’s fall TV preview) have already or could still be delayed due to the ongoing writer and actor strikes, but the next month’s slate feels pretty safe.
And what a month it is! A month of emotive sports docuseries with “God. Family. Prepare to be won over by Showtime’s “Dreaming Whilst Black” and Apple’s “Still Up,” to cackle through “Krapopolis,” and to have nightmares inspired by “American Horror Story: Delicate” (for better or worse).

"Something's not right... and I can feel it." Gravitas has unveiled the trailer for an indie horror movie titled Thirst, marking the directorial debut of musician / filmmaker Eric Owen – best known as the drummer with alternative rock duo Black Pistol Fire. Yet another new insomnia-related project (also check out Still Up from Apple TV+). In Thirst, insomnia spreads in a small town, causing fear and panic. As the situation becomes dire, two couples find salvation on an abandoned ranch – until nefarious characters descend upon the land, claiming it as their own. As always happens in these kind of apocalyptic films. After experiencing water problems in Austin, Owen says he was inspired to write this script. "I thought 'what if the water was what gave us insomnia and we didn’t know it?' and this set me on my path to writing Thirst." The film stars Brian Villalobos, Michael Gmur,...

Still Up looks set to be one of the best comedies of the year.
Apple TV+ shared the official trailer for the new comedy series starring Antonia Thomas and Craig Roberts.
Still Up is an almost romantic comedy set in the after-hours world of insomniacs Danny (Roberts) and Lisa (Thomas), who have no secrets except their feelings for each other.
The trailer zeroes Danny and Lisa's bond. They struggle to sleep and bond as they help each other through the night.
Insomnia isn't easy to handle, so having someone on the other end of a phone with you throughout that difficult time must be comforting.
While Danny and Lisa believe their bond to be platonic, it seems romantic feelings are simmering beneath the surface between them.
The logline does reveal they have no secrets except their feelings for each other, so there's a good chance the eight-part comedy will chart that throughout.
