A lawyer files a case claiming a convicted murderer was coerced by the police. He did have minor facial injuries. Once the judge allowed a new trial, all evidence collected was inadmissible (that fruit of the poisonous tree thing). The investigation is like doing something with one hand tied behind your back. But there are other routes. Pretty good episode, with a ticking clock.

The CSI Nick is informed by the District Attorney that the murderer Carl Bowden is saying that the corrupt Detective Sam Vega got his confession after beaten him seven years ago. Now the court intends to release Bowden, who was the killer and showed where the body of his victim was. If this happens, the door in the justice will be opened for other criminals arrested by Det. Vega to claim the same. Now, the CSI team has a very short period to check the old evidence and obtain new evidence to keep Bowden in prison.
"Altered Stakes" is a great episode of "CSI", with lots of technical investigation of a cold case. Unfortunately, there are countries that follow the same policy and the police act mopping the rain, arresting criminals immediately released in the custody hearing. Sad future for the honest generations. My vote is eight.
