Brutal British crime drama Gangs of London is back for a second series on Sky Atlantic and Now, with a release date of 20th October in the UK and 17th November in the US, and it’s looking as dark and gritty as ever.
When the explosive first series launched in April 2020, this story of the turbulent power struggles of London’s criminal underworld – centring on the Wallace family and various other international gangs – was an instant hit, at the time becoming Sky Atlantic’s second-biggest original drama launch behind Chernobyl. As dramas go it’s a thrilling powerhouse of a series, full of epic fight scenes and twisty narrative, and certainly isn’t for the faint-hearted gore-wise.
Now it’s back for a second series, fans will certainly be looking forward to seeing their unanswered questions resolved, as well as being introduced to new players in this savage power game.

A raft of British celebrities from Black, Asian and other mixed heritage backgrounds are encouraging ethnic minorities to take up the Covid-19 vaccine in a video campaign.
The campaign, which is led by “Citizen Khan” co-creator and actor Adil Ray, was first revealed by the actor online in January. It dispels myths about the vaccine as it has emerged in recent days that those from Black and mixed heritage backgrounds are more sceptical of the jab and aren’t getting vaccinated at the same levels.
The video features historian and presenter David Olusoga, Olympian Denise Lewis, “Yesterday” actors Meera Syal and Sanjeev Bhaskar, singer Beverley Knight, comedian Romesh Ranganathan and cricketer Moeen Ali, among others.
At 9:56pm on Thursday, U.K. public service broadcasters ITV, Channel 4, Stv, Channel 5 and pay TV operator Sky, will air the video simultaneously. The BBC, which is prohibited from participating in campaigns...

London-based Chopping spent almost two decades at UK firm Waring and McKenna. The long-term plan for Innovate is to add agents to the company, grow the client base and potentially add a literary division.
Chopping told us: “The talent management industry is evolving, and my aim is for Innovate to be ahead of the curve. Marvel's Agents of Shield: Channel 4, 8pm
In another impressive outing for this much-improved series, the loyalty of new recruit Lance Hunter (Nick Blood) is seriously tested by the conniving Talbot (Adrian Pasdar) - but will the mercenary really betray Coulson and his team?
Meanwhile, Carl Creel (Brian Patrick Wade) is still on the rampage and more dangerous than ever, having absorbed the deadly properties of the all-powerful Obelisk.
Citizen Khan: BBC One 8.30pm
It's possible you can think of nothing more horrifying than tuning in for Citizen Khan, but it is Halloween after all.
The sitcom may get a decidedly mixed reaction from critics, but the 2 to 3 million people who tune into each new episode will doubtless be thrilled to have Mr Khan back in their lives.

In America, Halloween is a fun day, an excuse for a party and a close third behind Thanksgiving and Christmas when it comes to annual celebrations. In Britain, it's more a case of shutting your curtains and hoping that the kids down the road don't egg your windows.
But that negative approach to Halloween needs to end now. What we lack in pumpkins and parties, we can make up for with an evening of hiding under the duvet with scary TV shows.
While there might not be much actual horror programming on October 31 (although a new series of Citizen Khan on BBC One is frightening us in a different way), a quick delve into the world of Netflix (other streaming services are available, yadda, yadda) means that there are frights and thrills on tap for anyone who wants to get into the spooky spirit of things.

The second weekend of 2014 is in the bag and Lone Survivor surpassed all expectations officially bringing in $37.8 million, enough to make it the second largest January opening ever, just behind the $40 million brought in by Cloverfield back in 2008. The Legend of Hercules managed to sneak just ahead of The Wolf of Wall Street for a third place finish with $8.86 million compared to Wolf's $8.83 million. And down in 11th Her just missed the top ten, finishing the weekend with $5.3 million, just about $500,000 shy of Anchorman 2's tenth place finish. It's still early in the season so it's going to take a while to separate the points leaderboard and we still have a couple weekends before the accuracy leaderboard goes live, but for now 've listed the current top ten from the points leaderboards directly below and you can find the full leaderboard here. BBC One controller Charlotte Moore has said that social media should never dictate programming decisions.
Speaking today (December 2) at a BAFTA session, Moore argued that sites like Twitter should "never [be] the only reason to decide whether you're going to commission or not commission".
"It would be mad to think that you're going to make any creative judgements based on that," she said. "That's just one element of feedback [and] it's a very small part of our audience."
Moore added that working in the media can cause people to become "overly obsessed" with Twitter.
"If you work for the media, you feel [social media] must be the biggest market, but I simply don't think that's true," she continued. "I know it's not true.
"It's very easy to get overly obsessed by it. You've got to take it within context. It's that balance between... keeping up with your younger audiences who really are interested in social media and Twitter.

TV writer Brian Lowry in hot water, Reginald Hunter says being called misogynist is 'rude' and Omid Djalili tries to crack America – again
This week's comedy news
An august organ makes a fool of itself this week, as the influential Hollywood trade mag Variety slams Us standup Sarah Silverman for trying to be "as dirty as the guys". Silverman fans and comedy commentators immediately rounded on the paper's TV columnist Brian Lowry, accusing him of sexism and a failure to understand Silverman's comedy. In a review of her new HBO special We Are Miracles, Lowry wrote that Silverman (who has 4.8m Twitter followers) has only "frittered around the edges of breakout success … Despite all manner of career-friendly gifts – from her looks to solid acting chops – she's limited herself by appearing determined to prove she can be as dirty and distasteful as the boys."
For these comments, the critic was instantly criticised.

BBC's director of television Danny Cohen said: "Brilliant Christmas telly across drama, factual, comedy, entertainment and religion is something licence-fee payers rightly expect from the BBC, and this year's holiday schedule delivers that.
"We have massive events such as the Doctor Who regeneration and the incredible return of Sherlock, as well as festive specials from hit shows including Strictly Come Dancing, Mrs Brown's Boys, Call the Midwife, Bad Education, and The Great British Bake Off.
"And of course there are brand new treats such as David Walliams' Gangsta Granny and we'll be showing a wide range of religious programming, including a live broadcast of The First Eucharist of Christmas from Westminster Abbey.

The five surviving Pythons have announced a one-night reunion gig at London's O2 next summer. An unmissable chance to catch a legendary act, or are they 20 years too late?
Charlie Higson, actor, comedian and author
I vividly remember going to see Monty Python live at the Drury Lane theatre in 1974. It was one of the best nights of my young life. There they were, up on stage, right in front of me, my heroes, the most important thing in my world. The comedy that you're into defines who you are, and every generation needs its own show – the show that they feel they own, that is made only for them.
For me, and everyone at school I respected, it was Monty Python. They upset your parents, they upset the establishment, they were the biggest cult show in Britain. And they played the Drury Lane theatre. How times have changed: a...

Experts at Screen International and Broadcast’s Diversify conference suggested a number of concrete ideas of how the UK film and TV industries can move forward.
On the ‘Way Forward’ panel, Baroness Oona King’s three action buzzwords were “accountability, access and affordability,” adding that it was important to create a baseline now to measure future progress.
She made it clear that there’s a need for more than good will, there needs to be resource too. “If you’re not going to attach resource then things aren’t going to change fast enough. We need to put money where your mouth is,” King added.
Pat Younge, chief creative officer of BBC Production, said when he started it was production driving everything, but now it was commissioning.
“With that power of commissioning comes responsibility,” said Younge. “I don’t think the commissioning group and channel production group is diverse enough.

The question of quotas for diversified talent in the UK film industry was a hot topic at Screen International and Broadcast’s Diversify conference today; experts’ views were decidedly mixed.
Femi Oguns, founder of Identity Drama and Identity Agency Group, said emphatically, “We should force a quota.” Director Penny Woolcock agreed: “I actually think it’s worth a try…it could open the door to new kinds of stories. It’s the only way of changing it to force people.”
But writer/director Amma Asante said: “I’m nervous about quotas. I’ve heard too many times even today, ‘Oh she’s there because she’s black or she’s a woman’… it’s not the reality I’m worried about, it’s the perception.”
Jason Bradbury of Lgbt-friendly distribution company Peccadillo Pictures was also fearful of quotes: “I’m not sure quotas would work, it’s a dangerous route to go down.”

BBC Two has announced plans for a tribute show about late comedian Felix Dexter.
Dexter, who was well loved for his roles on shows such as The Real McCoy and Citizen Khan, passed away last week aged 52. He had been suffering from multiple myeloma, a type of bone marrow cancer.
Fast Show creator and friend Paul Whitehouse said: "It's great that the BBC are showing this tribute to Felix. He was brilliant, funny and challenging and deserves to be remembered as such, even though he was a Gooner."
BBC comedy controller Mark Freeland said that the BBC was proud to be able to show the tribute, which would highlight "what a fantastic comedy actor he was".
Dexter rose to fame on the flagship '90s comedy series The Real McCoy before going on to appear in TV shows including The Fast Show, Knowing Me, Knowing You with Alan Partridge and Absolutely Fabulous.

The Us comedian slams Two and a Half Men's Chuck Lorre for nabbing her gags, Jennifer Saunders slags off the BBC and Johnny Vegas interviews himself
This week's comedy news
It's a powderkeg issue in the world of comedy – and Roseanne Barr has gone off like a rocket this week, accusing Two and a Half Men creator Chuck Lorre of thieving jokes. On Friday, Barr used Twitter (what else?) to berate Lorre and the show's star, Ashton Kutcher, who cracked a gag on the show similar to one Barr performed in 2006. The joke is about old age and the menopause: "I'd imagine that you're wet in the places you used to be dry," said Kutcher's character, "and dry in the places you used to be wet." This prompted a volley of online abuse from Barr. "Comics," began one: "Begin Watching Chuck Lorre'S Shows 2 See If He Steals Your...
