Great series until this episode
tonyloans-tx5 December 2022
The Celina Juarez character is getting annoying! While the overall writing is great, this character is an over-the-top example of a California girl who works with energy and spirits. I can't imagine an agency like LAPD would have her on the streets when the character's beliefs are now out a distraction on the job than a help. Even how fellow officers respond to her are a stretch.

I know that comedy is a part of this show and I sincerely appreciate that but the streets of LA are not a place where aromatherapy is an effective part of policing. Please mature this character fast. The actress is really good so I'd like to see her realize that her beliefs can be part of her but not something to use in policing unless she's dealing with like-minded people. The character needs to go home too. Her hanging out at Nolan's is getting old too.

A stellar episode
kitano08 December 2022
I really enjoyed this episode a lot. I loved the split-screen work with the dash cams and body cams... they've used the technique before, of course, but in this episode it really feels super-kinetic and exciting! Whenever bombs are used in TV shows, it always adds to the tension, and the type of bomb/car chase scenario was very well done.

The director and editors of this should be applauded for a great hour of TV.

The cast, as usual, were top-notch. Happy that the Tim/Lucy arc is winding down (or heating up?). It's been a slow burn with these two, but it's been handled well so far, so let's see!

Awesome episode....but hate the "cop camera"
grlym-468498 December 2022
This is such a great episode. I love how this show keeps bringing great content

However, I detest the cop chest camera footage.

Some use of it is usable footage, but much f it La like bad "b role" footage. Like a kid in a skateboard made the show. The iphone screen view was ok. But way overused. This is what kept it from being a 10/10.

And I like how the show adds drama like my wife likes but in a way that doesn't make it a show from the CW, but has action for me to like without being so over the top that my wife doesn't want to watch.

I hope this show can maintain its chemistry and formulas that work

Just please drop the pop culture/social media gimmicks like cop chest camera and iPhone tweeting cameras.

This episode was worth waiting a month for.
SourCandyOrNoCandy5 December 2022
Let me first just say that I hated the other episodes that were filmed using cellphone cams, dash cams and security cameras only, but I loved this one. A lot. Something about this episode felt different to those ones but also different to a regular episode (in a good way). This episode was so good that I - a Chenford stan from the first episode - didn't think that their scene was the best part of the episode. Don't get me wrong - it had me cheesing like a love-sick idiot, but the case of the week was so captivating that if that scene at the end wasn't there, the rating wouldn't have gone down for me.

Also, the fact that Celina is staying at Nolan and Bailey's house is a bit weird, but I think it was a necessary storyline for us to fall in love with her character. I'm really loving the Nolan-Juarez relationship. They work together exceptionally well.

Best parts of the episode?

  • The case this week was captivating. From the reveal of the first bombing victim to the reveal that there was a second, to seeing everyone work on one case together (which doesn't happen too often), it was remarkable.

  • The Chenford scene, of course. I wanted the Tim-Lucy tension to build more before they got together (maybe at the end of season 5) but I'm not going to complain at them getting together within the next few weeks. It was also beautifully filmed. After all of the dash cams, I almost forgot how much I love the usual visuals of The Rookie.

Worst part of the episode?

  • I can't really think of a bad part of this episode. It was incredible.

So many plot holes, so little time...
dan-21996 December 2022
Overall, my wife and I like this show. But sometimes the episodes are poorly written with big plot holes or they're just plain silly. In this case, it's plot holes.

Radio signals can trigger bombs, so stay back. But then they call the person with the bomb - with a cell phone which uses radio signals.

Then we have the classic "which wire do I cut?" trope. Seriously?!? This is after another incident with another bomb made the course of action clear in this case.

At least some of the romantic angles were advanced in the story line.

This show is generally well produced. The acting is good and believable. One final observation - if you're going to use bodycam footage, can it at least be integral to the story telling rather than just randomly cutting them on and off?

Mediocre

Warning: Spoilers
Ok, someone is placing explosive collars around people. But the police is not very effective investigating. They did not ask the first victim who or why put the collar on her. That is lazy writing. They could have make an explanation about how the killer put the collar in everyone before they know of the first victim or something like that. Also, the victims were told "to drive" but apparently they were not told not to communicate with others, so why they did not make signals or ask another driver to call the police or whatever?

And, after the second victim, as soon as they know a company was involved, why not evacuate the building preventively?

Besides that, a lot of character did stupid things in this episode. Juarez is annoying with the ghost thing and also with sleeping at Nolan's place. Bailey is amazing in everything but she can't identify a coyote (which I did in a second and there are not coyotes in my country). Chris decided that bothering his girlfriend in her important job is all right. Wesley can't deal with his kid having a vaccine, something parents do all the time. I mean, I understand not wanting the kid to hate him, but buying so many toys and stuff? That is stupid.

But there were good things. The suspense was well done. The killer motivation was more or less all right. The scenes between the detectives and the rookie were well done. And I especially liked the interactions between Nolan and Juarez at work, especially the part about giving bad news to a relative. I think the acting was great in general (the first victim was particularly genuine). I hope the writers focus more in the stories and meaningful interactions and less in small jokes and supernatural things.

Worst cops on the planet.
thirdeye-88 December 2022
The case could have been solved from the start if they had just asked the lady who put the bomb around her neck. Instead they make irrelevant small talk and fail to ask a single pertinent question.

Then the next victim comes along and they don't ask him who put the bomb around his neck either. Completely unbelievable.

Honestly, what are these writers thinking?

One of the worst episodes yet.

And that ridiculous psychic woman is irritating as can be. Can't see anyone taking a liking to that character. I'm guessing in due time we will see some serial killer take care of her and become the new bad guy.

Remove the crazy chick that believes in ghosts already!
samkata009 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Her thoughts about ghosts overpower everything else in the show. There's ALWAYS a quip about spirits or things she magically deduced.

This is crazy... That's literally all her conversations are about. It's like she's a jester that's been put in the show to clown around and has only 1 trick.

And what's more is they've made Nolan very annoying with her spiritual mumbo-jumbo. So they KNOW she's annoying... to the viewer too. God, I hope she washes out soon.

The body / cop chest cameras were bad. I get that they're trying to do something cool and different with the effects, but sometimes re-inventing the wheel is bad. It's not cool, it's just annoying and hard to understand what's happening properly. Stick to normal camera shots.

As for the plot, don't get me started. Nolan's mentally impaired side kick started yelling at him in panic while they were side by side with the vehicle they were taking pictures of. Why? Because the road was ending soon and apparently she needed Nolan's permission to not crash while she was the driver? I do not understand this scene nor why she was panicking so much.

And yeah... if the cops had done their job and actually talked to the victim or tried to ask a simple question, they could have solved this ages ago. Most incompetent cops in the world.

More unbelievable nonsense
haines40324 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Ok we all hate that spiritual cop, she's annoying, wooden, boring and one dimensional at best.....this episode as most of the others is just nonsense and the only thing going for the show is its entertainment value because if you take the awful, convient and sometimes ridiculous police part out of the show the characters apart from gypsy rose Lee and that fbi woman are likeable...this episode was really bad firstly we know that instead of telling the bomb victim Mike from the bomb squad tells bad dad jokes how about asking her if she knows who would put a bomb around her neck,it's not like if it was under her car where she may not of had any contact with the bomber but the fact they physically put it around her neck may of been a good excuse to ask if she knew who did it..... Mike the bomb squad expert kept trying a locked door yet doesn't have the training to put his hand 2 feet in front of him(through and obviously open window)and use the inside door handle to unlock the door its a thing used on millions of cars throughout the world but Mike's been trained on a budget and they didn't have the resources to train him in opening a car door from inside...second bomb victim drives next to cop car doesn't signal for help and when the cops see he's got a bomb that's triggered by radio frequency they use their radio and cell phones.....genius.

Why are the detectives playing 20 questions whilst on a serious operation like this?surely they can wit instead of playing silly games.... So many episodes fall short in this series such as sending morse code with mirror through a hole in the side of a van amongst some of the worst plots in the show....
