The film's Executive Producer, William Peduto, was elected Mayor of Pittsburgh in 2013.
During production, with the permission of Dr. Tyson, the crew completely dismantled and took nearly everything out of his office in order to set up lighting and cameras. After setup, there was almost no room left to walk in his office, and Dr. Tyson had to dodge and weave through a forest of light stands and C-stands to get into position for his interview. Within 20 minutes after the end of his interview, the crew restored everything exactly the way it had been previously (certainly to Dr. Tyson's great relief, and the producer's!).
The entire movie was edited in director and producer Dan Handley's one bedroom apartment living room which he turned into an editing bay. Many of the closeup shots were also shot in his living room.
Most of the historical re-enactment sequences in the movie were filmed inside the Allegheny Observatory itself.
