Genevieve Hegney and Tim Minchin in ‘Upright’ (Photo credit: Foxtel).
Playing strangers who meet half way across the Nullarbor and have a brief but passionate encounter in Foxtel’s upcoming series Upright was a lot of fun for Tim Minchin and Genevieve Hegney.
Friends since they attended the University of Western Australia and its dramatic society Uds, they had not been on stage or screen together before, although she did direct him in a Uds production of Tom Stoppard’s Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead, in which he played The Player.
In Upright Hegney’s character Frankie is travelling from Perth while Minchin’s Flynn is coming from Sydney with teenage runaway Meg (Milly Alcock) as they lug a piano across the country.

When director Jim Hosking came out with his film The Greasy Strangler in 2016, I was intrigued by the Bad Boy Bubby feel that the trailer showed me, and the odd-ball obscurity of the tone. I didn’t end up liking the film, though. It annoyed me too often for me to enjoy it and I felt like it went the “let’s make a bad movie so people make a fuss about it” route. So, scroll forward to last year, 2018, and the release of Hosking’s An Evening with Beverly Luff Linn, written by both Hosking himself and David Wike (Out There). It wasn’t on my radar. At moments like these I’m almost confident in saying that I’ve seen it all, even though I know that’s not entirely accurate. But then it’s hard to be ready for something like this when a person is under the impression that The Golden Girls could not have been any more commercialized than it already was years ago. There is a Clue game that is based upon The Golden Girls now, and it’s about as silly as you might want to believe. What’s even sillier is that it’s rated for ages eight and up. There’s a great deal of conjecture and theory still surrounding Albus Dumbledore, the headmaster of Hogwarts in the Harry Potter series. Even after the end of the films, well after Albus’ demise, it is reasoned that his possession of the elder wand, the most powerful wand in existence, was gained by some other means than defeating his good friend Gellert Grindelwald. In fact one fan has deduced that Albus’ sister Ariana had a lot more to do with this. If you remember her from the books she was described as being confined to their home after a run-in with three

As of right now the only person on Harvey Weinstein’s side is his lawyer Lisa Bloom. The fact that she is proudly working this case on his behalf has raised a good number of eyebrows and has even set her own mother against her as a result. Her mother, Gloria Allred, is also a lawyer and stated firmly that she would never under any circumstances accept Weinstein as a client. So far Bloom has weathered the many questions and disapproval that has been lobbed in her direction and states that she is confident that Harvey is listening to her and

MaryAnn’s quick take… A rote disappointment. There is nothing shocking or even mildly unexpected here. But there is an ironic weakening of the power of the xenomorphs to terrify. I’m “biast” (pro): love Alien and Aliens

You don’t have to have seen the movie The Great Gatsby nor read the book to know the Gif that’s playing up top. It’s Leonardo DiCaprio looking like a super rich guy and giving a toast to all of us. Jeremiah returned on Supergirl Season 2 Episode 14, and most of us felt the team was a little too trusting.
It didn't take long for him to betray them and run off to Lillian Luthor. Alex could have stopped him, but she let him go.

Were you surprised that the group was not more suspicious of Jeremiah's return?
Kathleen: This was the most frustrating part of this episode. For Cadmus's plan to work, most of the protagonists had to switch off every brain cell they had. Even accepting Jeremiah's story at face value, the guy was quite essentially a prisoner of war (Pow) for 15 years!

In musical theater, it’s called the “I Want” song.
Typically a ballad found within a musical’s first few scenes, the tune is an opportunity for composers to put into words the leading character’s desires and motivations so that the audience can have a clear sense of where the story is going.
Lin-Manuel Miranda is well-versed in the phrase, having written the scores to In the Heights, Hamilton and Disney’s Oscar-nominated animated musical Moana — for which its “I Want” song, “How Far I’ll Go,” is nominated for Best Original Song.

The Hollywood Reporter has learned that Yvonne Strahovski, star of NBC’s Chuck, has entered talks to join the cast of The Predator, Shane Black’s R-rated reboot that officially fired up production in Vancouver earlier in the week.
Negotiations are ongoing, according to THR, but assuming a deal sticks, Strahovski would join the likes of Boyd Holbrook, Jacob Tremblay, Keegan-Michael Key, Moonlight‘s Trevante Rhodes, Thomas Jane, Game of Thrones star Alfie Allen, Olivia Munn and definitely not Arnold Schwarzenegger – shoehorning his Dutch into the plot would only take audiences out of the experience, according to Holbrook.
In more positive news, the Logan star has hinted that Shane Black is rustling up something “totally different” with The Predator, as the illustrious writer-director looks to relocate the iconic alien onto the streets of suburbia. It’ll feature multiple extraterrestrials, too, leading Holbrook’s Special Forces commando Quinn McKenna to rally...

In its second season, HBO’s The Leftovers reinvented itself. While the first season, noteworthy for its unrelenting grimness and incredible sense of dread, made for gripping and divisive television, the second season did something remarkable: it became fun. And more importantly, it became fun without sacrificing that uncomfortable tone and those complicated characters and the overwhelming sense that […]

Charlie Hunnam looked as handsome as ever at the UK premiere of The Lost City of Z on Thursday. He attended the event in London with his costars Robert Pattinson and Sienna Miller, and at one point, he ran into yet another sexy star, Rami Malek, who gave him a big hug as they walked the red carpet. Throughout the night, Charlie took some time for his fans, too, stopping to sign autographs and smile for selfies. The cast's UK stop comes after a trip to Germany, where Charlie and Robert linked up and stole hearts the at 67th annual Berlinale International Film Festival in Berlin. Meanwhile, as Charlie makes the press rounds for his new film, he's been opening up about his personal life a bit, mentioning marriage and kids as he talked to Total Film about his "incredibly understanding girlfriend." Does anybody really know what's going on?
One thing I know for sure after watching Colony Season 2 Episode 2 is that we're a touch away from reuniting four of the Bowmans again. But not the four we've gotten to know as a unit.
The elusive Charlie and daddy Will have finally been reunited, but with Bram slaving away in a labor camp, the Bowmans will still be one shy of a full load. Other than that? Alien filled sky is the limit!
The extended family unit is still in tact, and pulsating. While we lost Beau last season, we've picked up Devon, and she grew on me during the hour. She's not only feisty, but she knows how to get around in a world that's very foreign to Will.
Jennifer was back, and she's not someone you really miss until she's right in front of you. Kathleen Rose Perkins is a gem.

It’s been a year and a half since the “Colony” pilot was screened at Comic-Con; a year since the show premiered on USA; a month since “Colony” Season 1 was available on Netflix; and a week since the second season debuted. So we’re officially stating now: You have no good reason for not giving “Colony” a chance. Yeah, “too much TV” is a real issue we all contend with, but this fascinating drama — which grounds a sci-fi premise so deeply in the dirt you’ll leave episodes unsure which world you live in — deserves your attention.

Charlie Hunnam popped up in La for a hike on Friday morning, and we have to admit that we did a double take. It's been nearly four months since we last saw the former Sons of Anarchy star out and about, and if it wasn't for Google Images, we might have forgotten what he looked like. Luckily, Charlie is just as handsome as he's always been - even in rolled sweatpants, a long-sleeved Nike jacket, and a knit cap. Where work is concerned, it was recently announced that Charlie's latest project, the Guy Ritchie-directed King Arthur: Legend of the Sword, would be pushed back from March to May 2017. The 36-year-old's other film, Zoe, is in preproduction and also stars Léa Seydoux. Hopefully we'll see more of Charlie in the coming months. From Star Trek and Field Of Dreams to The Rocketeer and Krull: we salute the film scores of the late, great James Horner.
When composer James Horner died in a plane crash in June 2015, cinema lost one of its most profoundly emotional voices, and the final chapter on Horner's astonishing career has now closed with his last work: Antoine Fuqua's Western remake The Magnificent Seven. Horner actually wrote the score based on the script before the film even started production, such was his passion for it, and it's been posthumously completed by his longtime collaborator Simon Franglen.
To mark the occasion, here are the 25 most seminal scores from a lamented, legendary figure of film music.
1. Legends Of The Fall (1994)

Pixar returns to form with a dazzlingly imaginative adventure set inside the mind of an 11-year-old girl
The new Pixar animation Inside Out could easily have been called Out There. It’s as bizarre, imaginative and authentically psychedelic as anything produced in mainstream animation. At this point in the fortunes of the once-infallible creative powerhouse, you wouldn’t have bet on Pixar coming up with anything very outré. Bought by Disney in 2006, the studio hadn’t produced anything truly inspired that wasn’t a sequel since Up in 2009. Given the humdrum quality of Cars 2 and Monsters University and 2012’s well-intentioned but forgettable Brave, it seemed as if the studio had lost its penchant for exotic risk.
But Inside Out is in the top rank of Pixar productions with its combination of audacity, intelligence, wit and emotional reward. Directed and co-written by Pete Docter (Monsters, Inc and Up) and co-directed by Ronnie del Carmen,...

London, Dec 5: Singer Paul McCartney recently organised a band to perform at a surprise 54th birthday party for wife Nancy Shevell in Tokyo.
He later joined the band onstage. McCartney was in Japan on his Out There world tour to promote his album "New".
The Parrots, Japan's copycat act, helped McCartney to relive his former band's happy days. The 71-year-old also joined them for the Beatles' 1964 hit "I saw her standing there".
"It must have evoked a few memories for Paul. The Japanese lads got the thrill of a lifetime when we all screamed for Paul to join them - and he did," mirror.co.uk quoted one of the guests.
