John Ford, the iconic director known for such films as Stagecoach, The Grapes of Wrath, My Darling Clementine, The Searchers and much more, will be the subject of the next edition of the TCM podcast The Plot Thickens, it was announced Wednesday.
“Decoding John Ford,” hosted by Ben Mankiewicz, premieres June 6. The fifth season of the podcast, consisting of seven episodes, will feature never-before-heard archival interviews with the likes of John Wayne, Katharine Hepburn, Henry Fonda, James Stewart, Woody Strode and Ford himself.
TCM says Mankiewicz will “strip back the mythology to reveal Ford’s brilliance — alongside the often ugly, uncomfortable truths about his life and movies, asking whether we can ever truly separate art from the artist.”
“John Ford is a mercurial figure. Not surprisingly given his stature, the stereotypes about Ford are incomplete,” the host said in a statement. “This is a man defined by contradictions: he revered...

It was almost five years back when Nikkhil Advani had last directed a feature film. It was a highly dramatic Batla House featuring John Abraham in the lead, which was a hit at the box office and brought in almost 100 crores. The year was 2019, when different genres were really working well in theatres, though the scenario changed a year later with the pandemic, and the focus shifted more towards high-decibel action films, something that struck with full throttle in 2023 with the arrival of Pathaan, Gadar 2, Jawan and Animal.
Circa 2024, and Nikkhil is now coming up with his first ever out-and-out action film, Vedaa. Yet again, he has paired up with John Abraham for the film. Apart from Batla House, he has also directed the actor in Salaam-e-Ishq, while also producing Satyameva Jayate, which boasts of the biggest opening ever for the actor as a main lead.

Irrfan Rejected Christopher Nolan For A Film Whose Oscar Snub Made Many Furious, But It Was A Smart Decision! ( Photo Credit – IMDb; Facebook )
How many actors do you know who have rejected Christopher Nolan’s one of the very best films in a film that will turn out to be a box office Blockbuster and made every single soul angry for not getting a shot at the Oscars? Well, you know by the title it’s Irrfan, and we believe he’s the only Indian actor who could even think to say no to one of the most loved directors across the globe.
Irrfan, back in 2011-12, agreed to shoot Ritesh Batra’s ‘festival film’ & people weren’t shocked at his casting because who better than him to play the typical Bandra uncle donning formals with a bag in his hand, doing the monotonous routine job from the past 35 years...

K-Pop superband member Suga will begin his mandatory military service this week, his agency announced Sunday. BigHit Music said Suga, 30, will fulfill his military duty by doing an alternative service beginning Friday, reports Yonhap.
Suga will be the third member of the group to join the military. Jin enlisted in December 2022, and J-Hope followed suit in April this year.
In early August, Suga, rapper and producer for the group, withdrew his request to delay the start of his mandatory service.
Unlike Jin and J-Hope, Suga has been ruled unfit for the regular combat duty. While all able-bodied men must serve in the military, those with health issues may be assigned to alternative services, which include working in an office for a municipal government.

Dogs are not only man’s best friend, but also loyal allies in times of war. They have been trained to perform various tasks, such as scouting, tracking, guarding, detecting explosives, or delivering messages. They have also saved countless lives and earned many honors for their bravery and devotion.
Some of these war dogs have become legends, such as Stubby, who served in World War I and was awarded several medals; Chips, who attacked an enemy machine gun nest in World War II and received a Silver Star; or Max, who starred in a 2015 film about a dog who helped US Marines in Afghanistan.
Now, a new film inspired by true events will tell the story of another war dog who made history. The film is titled Tutti Frutti, and it follows the adventures of a stray dog who is adopted by an Indian Army unit during the 1971 Indo-Pakistani War.

After spending years topping the charts, BTS are getting ready to take over bestseller lists, too. In conjunction with their annual Festa Celebration — this year marking their tenth anniversary as a group — the international pop stars have revealed details around an upcoming book, titled Beyond The Story: 10-Year Record of BTS.
With a publish date of July 9th, the book is promised to be a deep dive into the band’s history, along with hopeful looks towards the future for Rm, Jin, Suga, j-hope, Jimin, V, and Jungkook.
According to a statement from Bighit Music, over the course of seven chapters, Beyond The Story “demonstrates their effort, hardship, and growth” from their “first gathering to becoming the 21st century pop icons.” The chapters are titled: “Seoul,” “Why We Exist,” “Love, Hate, Army,” “Inside Out,” “A Flight That Never Lands,” “The World Of BTS,” and “We Are.” Personal insights from the...

Suga of BTS has his priorities in order. Earlier this year, the musician shared his solo album D-Day, which took him across North America in April and May. He made the most of his time on that leg of the tour, even bringing Halsey out in Los Angeles to debut “Suga’s Interlude” from her album Manic. Now, he’s released another collaboration with her — “Lilith (Diablo IV Anthem)” — and he still has shows scheduled in Singapore and Seoul this month. Still, his focus is on playing Diablo IV every chance he gets.

Halsey is back in the BTS universe with “Lilith,” a new collaborative single with Suga. It’s released as the “anthem” for Blizzard Entertainment’s new video game Diablo IV, which is also out today.
“Lilith” is exactly what you’d expect from a song made specifically for a video game. Its Diablo-themed music video opens with Halsey donning a hooded black robe as she walks through a candlelit church. “Might fuck around and just succumb to my aggression/ I taste blood and it’s turned to an obsession,” she sings as she takes off the robe to reveal the inevitable sexy sorceress costume underneath. Who cares if arrows are pummeling down to give her numerous bloody lesions — the stilettos are cute, dammit!
Suga then appears inexplicably, surrounded by a cloud of fog that obscures his face. “We just fuck things up, yeah I noticed,” he sings in his entirely-English verse.

Turns out that book Taylor Swift fans turned into a misguided best-seller would’ve been a hit anyway; it’s about BTS.
After Flatiron Books announced that an unnamed celebrity would be releasing a “blockbuster” memoir in July, hopeful Swifties came out in droves to pre-order the book, making it the No. 1 best-seller on Amazon and Barnes and Noble. Now, however, The New York Times reports that 4C Untitled Flatiron Nonfiction Summer 2023 is actually Beyond the Story: 10-Year Record of BTS, an oral history of the K-pop group written by journalist Myeongseok Kang.
The book drops on July 9th, an important day in BTS history. Their fan base, the Army, was founded on the date, and July 9th, 2023 marks the Army’s 10th anniversary. The US edition of the book, translated by Anton Hur in collaboration with Clare Richards and Slin Jung, clocks in at 544 pages and features exclusive photographs of the band.

BTS’ Suga stopped by The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Monday to promote his newly released solo album, D-day, with a spirited performance of “Haegeum.”
He also joined Jimmy Fallon for a game of Imposter Challenge, where they were each given two things that looked identical, one of which tasted good and the other did not. They ate whichever one was presented to them while trying to convince the audience that they liked the taste.
Several members of BTS have embarked on solo careers since the group began its hiatus, but Suga is the first to head out on his own tour. The rapper/producer has concerts coming up in the US and Asia; revisit our recap of a recent gig in New York, then grab tickets to his upcoming here.

He’s the king, he’s the boss: Suga of BTS kicked off the “Agust D Tour” in style at the Ubs Arena in New York on April 26th. The first member of the South Korean group to undertake a solo tour, Suga performed cuts from his mixtapes as alter-ego Agust D, along with songs from BTS’s discography and tracks from his new full-length record, D-day (read the review here).
While Suga is hitting the US and Asia solo, he has plenty of nods to his bandmates onstage, like his guitar, which features messages and notes from the other six members of BTS. Meanwhile, in addition to his explosive and emotive solo tracks, the setlist for the concert includes a medley of tracks originally recorded and performed with fellow members of the BTS rap line, Rm and j-hope, the latter of whom recently began his time in the South Korean military.

Of all the BTS members, Suga is probably the one who is most familiar with the daunting feeling that comes before dropping a solo project — but he’d never released something the size and scale of D-day before.
The 30-year-old rapper/producer/songwriter born Min Yunki has two full-length mixtapes using his alter ego Agust D — his 2016 debut, named after his second alias, and 2020’s D-2, both which established him as a ferociously introspective artist. Suga has been open about turning down acting roles in the past, and his new music video for the main single off his album "D-Day" (which dropped April 21) proves why there was interest in getting him on screen. The single "Haegeum"'s cinematic video sees Suga face off against himself as dueling gangsters: one who's all business and another who's more street savvy.
While the video highlights how Suga could tackle a villain role, the song accompanying the high-octane clip has its own impactful message (and it'll no doubt be one of the highlights of his upcoming solo world tour).
Ahead, watch Suga's "Haegeum" music video and learn what the lightning-fast Korean lyrics of the song translate to in English (via a YouTube translation) and their deeper meaning.

For more than a decade, Suga has had the world’s eyes upon him: As a member of BTS, the Mc-singer-producer lives at the epicenter of a pop frenzy. Since 2016, though, he’s been testing his artistic boundaries with releases under the name Agust D — “Suga” spelled backward, with the letters “D” and “T” added to honor his birthplace of Daegu, South Korea. On these tracks, he muses on the modern age and flaunts his appreciation of pop and hip-hop from the past.

Suga of the five-time Grammy-nominated K-pop group BTS released a new single titled “People Pt. 2” under his name Agust D at midnight on April 7, 2023. The track will be on his highly anticipated album D-Day dropping on April 21, 2023. This pre-release single features one of South Korea’s beloved artists, Iu. The two have previously paired up on a track for Iu titled “Eight” which not only featured Suga but was produced by him as well.
“People Pt.2 (feat. Iu)” is described by Bighit Music as, “a boom bap rhythm-based pop R&b track featuring Iu with her crystalline voice creating a beautiful balance overall. The track illustrates the constant repetition of states and emotions in relationships between people.”
The track arrived with a music video that gives off a similar vibe to a behind-the-scenes film. Suga is seen sipping coffee, getting lost in his thoughts, and fully immersing himself in music.

Hayworth is not the only one wearing a disguise—like any noir, everyone has two or more personas, but Welles’s film is no ordinary noir, and for better and for worse, The Lady from Shanghai is no ordinary movie. The film, both haphazard...

Exclusive: It’s been a while since we’ve had a raunchy female feature comedy– arguably since 2017’s Girls Trip, however, here comes D-Day from Spyglass Media Group with Schitt’s Creek‘s Emily Hampshire attached to star.
The pic, written by One Day at a Time scribes Becky Mann, Audra Sielaff and Andy Roth follows newly divorced and sexually inexperienced Kate, as she’s encouraged by her friends to get back out there. Of course Kate has certain standards so she’s not going to settle for just anyone but she’s determined to make her ex’s wedding day her D-Day.
Betsy Thomas, the creator of TBS’ My Boys, will be making her feature directorial debut here.
Thomas tells Deadline, “I am so thrilled to work with the immensely talented Emily Hampshire to bring this hilariously randy script to life.”
D-Day is produced by Level 1 Entertainment’s Bill Todman Jr and Edward Milstein (Grandma’s Boy). Spyglass’ Chairman and CEO, Gary Barber, and Peter Oillataguerre, President of Production, are executive producing with Oillataguerre and Chris Stone, VP of Production & Development, overseeing the project on behalf of Spyglass. Limor Hakim is co-producing for Level 1 Entertainment.
For six seasons, Hampshire played Stevie Budd on the Emmy-winning series Schitt’s Creek. She can currently be seen in Chapelwaite on Epix and in the upcoming thriller series The Rig on Amazon. Hampshire will release her first graphic novel Amelia Aierwood: Basic Witch in partnership with Z2 Comics this October and is set to co-write, executive produce and star as the title character in the Norman Lear reboot of Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman.
In addition to My Boys, Thomas has also directed episodes of NBC’s Superstore and ABC’s Home Economics.
Mann and Sielaff’s writing credits also include FX’s It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Fox’s Raising Hope and ABC’s The Real O’Neals. Roth’s credits include Amazon’s With Love, Netflix’s Paradise Pd and FX’s Anger Management.
