A journey with great encounters and beautiful moments: first of all the visit of the Cenote X'Canché and the Mayan site of Ek' Balam: there Muriel and Sacha meet Benedicto Can Dzui , the manager of the cenote who explains that the Mayan villagers are managing this site (so they get new incomes); with him they walk through the forest and he shows them the "Ceiba" tree , a sacred tred tree for the Mayan people and later the cenote: this small lake which is connected to a net of caves. Then they take a zipline through the forest. The most beautiful has come , the Mayan town of Ek' Balam, a 34 meters high pyramid and a Mayan ball game place: the guide Aurelio Hao Tun was present when the archaeologists discoverd the tomb of a mayan King; a very beautiful place.
Second great moment: the visit of the Mayan village of Muximbaal: there Muriel Schmitt , a guide presents Sacha to Angelica Garcia, a Mayan woman who makes embroideries. Then to enter into the Mayan community Muriel and Sacha have to live a cleansing ritual: the shaman of the village is in charge of this ritual, a moment of re-birth of the persons.
Then we have the boat tour at Celestun : with Henri Dzib Chay Sacha visites the mangrove, an important ecosystem: they see frigatebirds, brown pelicans and a lot of pink flamingos.
Sacha enjoys also a nice diving with the diving coach Marcos O. Mier near Playa del Carmen: they see the coral reef, fishes and sea turtles.
Finally the moments in Merida with Gloria Letica and her daughter Gloria: Sacha wears a huipil , a shawl and a head scarf and looks like Frida Kahlo: they go to a mass in a Catholic Church, then they go to a market: Sacha tastes the star apple (caimito) and looks the differents Mexican chilies, the see the spectacle of Yucatecan folkloric dances, eat a Yucatecan dish called panucho and enjoy a nice moment of music with a trio of troubadours.
Besides I enjoyed very much of the story of the sisal period in Yucatan: a moment of strong economical growth for Mexico and later the decay: many estates (haciendas) were abandoned and now some of these great estates have been transformed into hotel or privatehouses and also guesthouses. There is also an interesting párt with Indra Rojo, a woman who is very concerned by the tremendous growth of Cancun: there are tons of garbage and she tries to shows how this garbage can be recycled.
In Punta Allen we can see how Tiziano organizes sport fishing for the tourist and in the Sian Ka'an marine reserve Vicente Ferreyra promotes an ecotourism project with the local fishmermen and their wives: so the local populations are involved in the touristic activities and get new incomes.
I enjoyed very this journey because the Mexican men and women showed a great kindness.
