Shame

I think Dirty has got to be one of the most fascinating of the Wu Tang Clan. The guy had a tragic end, which is typically the case for some of our best creative legends. I understand the intention with episodes like these in season 3, but truly, there were other ways to pay homage to the members of the WTC. There were so many other facets of Dirty's life that the series could have delved into as a standalone episode, but instead they chose to delve into his imagination and a fictional world inside a semi-fictional world. The episode starts a distraction from the linear narrative format you're used to. I found it jolting and not entertaining.

Dirty deserved better than this

I can absolutely see what they were trying to do but the rendition of Shimmy Shimmy Ya at the end perfectly encapsulated this whole episode. The delivery by the actor came with about 50% of ODB's energy and was bland and unoriginal, which is essentially what the entire episode did to his legacy. They tried to be too clever and artistic but what they actually created was a bloated dream chapter in a much larger, more interesting story.

They could have done so much more with the story of ODB and picked from any number of chapters in his life to adapt but instead they focussed on this. It's far from bad but it's a huge shame.

RZA's Tribute to Dirrrty
ericnh-4560517 February 2023
I'll start by saying I was SHOCKED when I came here and saw how poorly rated this episode was!

This is straight up RZA's brilliant tribute to ODB. Mike Martin and Mario had his back and together they created a funny, heartfelt and grand love letter to Dirty.

ODB would have LOVED this. This episode is like a journey into the mind of one of the most unique and eccentric hip-hop artists of all time. I can completely imagine that this is exactly what it was like behind ODB's eyes.

The departure from the standard style and the hot step into the 1970's was amazingly played out by everyone involved. Seeing regular characters in these new imaginary roles was a riot. (U-God and Divine especially!)

I always loved the Dirt McGurk moniker, so to now be able to catch a glimpse of his origin story was epic.

It's a shame this is currently one of, if not THE lowest rated episodes of the series. Personally, I think it's one of the best.

Shimmy shimmy, y'all.

Awesome Change of Pace!

I think we need an entire Dirt McGirt movie cause this was a super cool episode. Van Peebles directed this episode in the style of all the rad 70s classics like Truck Turner, Dolemite, Black Belt Jones, Superfly and Shaft.

So far Season 3 has been great and this Hulu drop of three episodes has been nothing short of amazing. I'm going to be bummed when the season comes to an end because I am glued to this. Everyone involved is great.

ODB was such a unique artist and it's really cool to see how they pay tribute to him in the series. I love it.

There's never going to be a group of guys like the Wu Tang Clan and this show is top notch. Especially this out of character episode!

Straight masterpiece

I have never been a wutang fan but I've been a fan of a bunch of rappers and producers who idolize wu, hence why I started watching the show.

I only got to meet ODB through this show and this episode was MIND BLOWING. One of the best homages I have ever seen created for someone.

The story telling and the characters are real catchy and it really puts you in the state of mind that represent best what ODB was seeing and how he truly lived his life.

I'm really glad about every artistic choices they made to make this episode come to life.

I really feel he'd be delighted to see this episode and he'd LAUGH HIS ASS OFF watching it!

Respect for the creators!

Absolutely delightful
wildflower47048 April 2023
I enjoyed this episode so much I watched it twice. The mind of Old Dirty B goes back to the 1970s for inspiration for his solo album. He is Dirt McGirt - an obscene comedian. RZA is a friend and a no nonsense club owner. He does a great job playing that role. (They all do) Divine is Superfly (sorta). RZA's stepdad plays Don Cornelius from soul train and his mother is the head of a numbers syndicate Dirt goes too far and is kicked out the club and gets tangled up with the numbers queen. That turns into a dangerous mess and he becomes an undercover brother to get free of the numbers queen and also save Don Cornelius. In the end, Dirt comes to terms with who he is.
