Prince Andrew’s damning, mortifying, and horrifying interview about his relationship with Jeffrey Epstein — and the allegations brought against him by Epstein trafficking victim Virginia Giuffre — is getting the Netflix movie treatment. Scoop, out April 5, will recount how the infamous 2019 Newsnight interview came about, with Gillian Anderson starring as journalist Emily Maitlis and Rufus Sewell playing Prince Andrew.
Scoop is based on the similarly titled memoir Scoops by Sam McAllister, the Newsnight producer who worked closely with Maitlis to secure the interview. Billie Piper will play McAllister in the film,...

Fremantle has backed the new indie forged by Channel 4’s former entertainment boss Phil Harris.
Harris has unveiled Boldprint Studios and Fremantle, his former employer, has taken a minority stake.
Deadline revealed Harris’ departure several months ago and we understand he had for a long time planned to set up his own production outfit. He has also signed a Creative Director, Lou Hutchinson, who used to be the Head of Entertainment at I Kissed a Boy producer Twofour.
Harris said Boldprint will “be built on creating bold, scalable global formats; an ambition which aligns perfectly with Fremantle’s global distribution plans.”
Fremantle UK CEO Amelia Brown, who herself was set to exit the Britain’s Got Talent maker last year, said Harris and Hutchinson have “been behind some of the most talked about and cutting-edge shows of recent years and we are thrilled to welcome them back to the Fremantle...

Is the U.K. feeling royal fatigue? With three major royal events landing in the past 24 months — Prince Philip’s funeral in April 2021, followed by the Platinum Jubilee and Queen Elizabeth’s funeral in 2022 — the coronation of King Charles III on May 6 is dividing the nation.
The coronation arrives in a period of reflection about the monarchy and its place in modern British society, not to mention the optics of staging a ceremony replete with pomp and splendor while ordinary people are grappling with a cost-of-living crisis.
That makes it tricky for U.K. broadcasters to strike a balance between covering a historic event and serving diverse programming. When Prince Philip died, the BBC’s blanket coverage generated so many complaints that the broadcaster had to set up a dedicated hotline to field them.
Perhaps because of the respect Queen Elizabeth commanded, there were fewer grumblings about the coverage of...

Commissions
U.K. broadcaster Channel 4 has commissioned a documentary on Prince Andrew as part of its programming around the coronation of his brother, King Charles III. Andrew’s disastrous 2019 interview with then “Newsnight” anchor Emily Maitlis was widely mocked and condemned and proved to be the catalyst in Andrew’s banishment from public life. In the new two-part documentary “Andrew – The Problem Prince” (working title) from Channel 4 and A&e, Maitlis speaks in detail about the interview. The documentary uses archive footage, interviews with BBC producer Sam McAlister and exclusive access to palace insiders, to uncover the inside story of the interview and unravel the scandal that led to his fall from grace.
Among Channel 4’s other coronation programming, “Frankie Boyle’s Farewell to the Monarchy” airs in the build up to the event and will provide the comedian’s perspective on the history of the royal family and its modern-day goings on.

Exclusive: Vladimir Putin is set to get the Keeping Up With The Kardashians treatment in a deep fake project for Channel 4.
The British broadcaster is developing Keeping Up With The Kremlin, a comedy series that will spoof E!’s iconic reality show.
Deadline hears that the project, which is yet to be officially greenlit, will be for social media as Channel 4 leans into digital-first commissioning.
Chalkboard TV, which made Channel 4’s Michael Sheen drama Vardy v Rooney: A Courtroom Drama, is behind Keeping Up With The Kremlin.
The production company will use actors to play Russian President Putin and his acolytes, with deep fake technology and overdubbing being used in post-production.
Channel 4 has shown a willingness to experiment with deep fake technology. A digital Queen Elizabeth II delivered an alternative Christmas message in 2020, while an AI was responsible for last year’s message.

Comedian and actor Kieran Hodgson’s video of his hilarious Happy Valley impressions has gone viral.
Hodgson, who recently co-wrote and starred in Channel 4’s Prince Andrew: The Musical, shared a video online in which he recaps the third and final series of the hit BBC show. Hodgson speaks in character as the Happy Valley stars.
During the video, he imitates Sarah Lancashire’s Catherine Cawood and her sister Clare, played by Siobhan Finneran.
He also delivers impressions of Tommy Lee Royce (James Norton) and his teenage son Ryan (Rhys Connah).
Other moments see Hodgson take on Susan Lynch’s Alison Garrs, Conn O’Neil’s performance of Clare’s boyfriend Neil, and the Pe teacher Mr Hepworth (Mark Stanley).
Hodgson shared the video on Twitter, writing: “A little treat for fans of #HappyValley Bad TV Impressions.”
Viewers have disagreed with his assessment, however, and are commending him for his efforts.
