Its the second season of a hit series that is just overflowing with talent at both ends of the camera and out of nowhere the producers pitch the viewer an episode ... without the star...? I would like to be able to tell you that I did hours of research to find the "real" story -- something like Jim was ill, Jim had family issues, Jim was in contract negotiations ... but the fact is that IMDb doesn't pay me enough for that (doesn't pay me at all in fact) so all I can say is that, if you had a database of 100,000 TV episodes, you would be hard-pressed to find many (if any) where the star is offscreeen for 98% of the story.
And still drawing a paycheck.
Yet here we are.
Bottom line, it worked, it is a testament to the production team here that they were able to deliver an effective and suspenseful episode, arguably as good as any in the series, using only the supporting cast.
A Hollywood "inside joke" ... that worked!
