At some point the past year, Rive Gauche icon Agnès Varda and French photographer Jr went on a road trip through rural France documenting whatever locals they encountered and, lucky for us, decided to make a movie about it. The main activity of their excursion involved producing pieces for Jr’s ongoing Inside Out project, wherein he takes portraits of the subjects he happens upon (or lets them enter into his van-cum-photobooth to capture their own images), prints them out at a scale somewhere between life-size and mammoth, and then pastes the images onto a building or transportation vessel that is meaningful […]...

Heathers, John Hughes, Back To The Future, Nora Ephron, Coming To America and more, as we chat 80s movies with Hadley Freeman...
Hadley Freeman's latest book has harnessed her love of 80s movies, and gone into detail about just why they work so well. Entitled Life Moves Pretty Fast, you won't be surprised to hear that Ferris Bueller's Day Off features in there. But then so does Dirty Dancing, Top Gun, Ghostbusters, Back To The Future and Eddie Murphy.
So what makes 80s movies so special? That seemed a logical place to start, as we caught up with Hadley for a chat...
Can I start by throwing a paraphrased movie quote at you? That line in The Truman Show about accepting the reality with which we're presented? At what point did you come to accept and realise that the movies of the 80s were so special to you? As you grew up with them,...

The year is nearly over, so now it's time to look forward and see which 2015 films everyone is excited about. Fandango recently ran a survey and wouldn’t you know it, Star Wars: The Force Awakens was named the most anticipated film of 2015. More than 1,000 film fans were surveyed in categories including fan favorite actress (Jennifer Lawrence) and fan favorite actor (Robert Downey Jr.).
Star Wars had an easy win for most anticipated film -- the last time a new Star Wars trilogy came out people camped out outside of theaters for weeks. Even people who were burned by the prequels have to be curious about the idea of returning to a galaxy far, far away. There’s potential for The Force Awakens to be great now that there’s a new director under the helm (Jj Abrams) and a mostly new cast (at the very least there will...

Having never attended film school, Alastair Siddons shares that he's still learning to make films as he goes. He considers his mistakes as lessons and his crew as his mentors. The humble filmmaker's first feature documentary was "Turn it Loose," which was a large scale global art adventure about b-boying. During that time he met Jr in Brazil and was inspired to create his second feature film, "Inside Out: The People's Art Project," about his work. What it's about: "Inside Out" is about the power of paper, the power of glue, the power of people and the power of the storyteller. What else should audiences know?: "That this is just the beginning. "Inside Out: The People's Art Project" follows the birth and evolution of Jr's massive participatory art project. A lot of New Yorkers will be familiar with his art by now, as the city has been...
