If there's one thing more popular than true crime documentaries on Netflix, it's surely reality shows. The streamer has churned out a string of highly successful reality series, from "Love is Blind" to the controversial "Squid Game" reality show that was criticized for alleged "inhumane" conditions on the set. Now, the streamer has debuted its latest unorthodox take on the reality format with "Unlocked: A Jail Experiment," and it's another pretty controversial (and hugely popular) one from Netflix.
The show chronicles Arkansas sheriff Eric Higgins' radical approach to changing the conditions in Pulaski County Regional Detention Facility in Little Rock, Arkansas. That is to say that Higgins essentially handed over one unit of the county jail to its inmates. According to Tudum, "Unlocked: A Jail Experiment" is "an eight-episode exploration of what happens when unit cells are unlocked for six weeks, and detainees create community and structure for themselves." What could possibly go wrong?...

Reality star Savannah Chrisley has claimed the conditions have gotten so bad for her incarcerated father, Todd Chrisley, that he might be transferred to a state prison “because our federal institutions cannot guarantee his safety.” Speaking with Brian Entin on NewsNation‘s latest edition of Cuomo, the Unlocked podcast host said that things have only worsened for her father since he spoke out about the conditions at the Federal Prison Camp in Pensacola, Florida. “The retaliation is real,” she told NewsNation. “It is heartbreaking for me to watch as his daughter, but they have even gone to the extent of stating that they will try to ship him to a state facility because our federal institutions cannot guarantee his safety.” Last month, Todd spoke with Entin about the alleged conditions he and his fellow inmates are facing in the correctional facility. This included claims of blackmail attempts, rat-infested kitchens, out-of-date food,...

Savannah Chrisley, daughter of “Chrisley Knows Best” stars Todd and Julie, updated E! News about how her parents are faring in prison after they were indicted for tax fraud.
“Mentally, it’s a hard place to be at. You do the same things over and over and over again, every single day. And missing their kids… Missing us is hard, but also missing each other,” she told E! News in an exclusive interview.
Adding that “another way that the system is broken” is the fact it’s keeping them apart, Savannah said, “They were together 24/7 and they’ve gone now eight months without speaking, and that’s the tough part.”
Todd and Julie’s prison sentences were reduced earlier this month. The reality TV star and his second wife received a combined 19-year prison sentence for bank fraud and tax evasion in June 2022. Todd received a 12-year sentence in November while Julie received seven years.

Siblings Savannah and Chase Chrisley have provided an update on their incarcerated parents, Todd and Julie Chrisley, describing their prison conditions as “inhumane” and a “nightmare.” Chase joined his sister on her Unlocked podcast, where he shared an update on how his mom and dad are doing. “They both have no air, no air conditioning,” he claimed. “They’re both in states where it gets 100-plus degrees, and there’s no air conditioning.” Savannah agreed, saying, “It’s a nightmare, it’s awful,” before claiming that there are “poisonous snakes” just “casually slithering on the floor” in her mother’s cell. “It’s not Fear Factor,” Chase responded. Todd and Julie were convicted of tax evasion and bank fraud in June 2022 and began their prison sentences in January 2023. Todd is serving 12 years at Florida’s Federal Prison Camp Pensacola, while Julie is serving seven years at Kentucky’s Federal Medical Center in Lexington.

Squid Game became a full-fledged global phenomenon when it was released on Netflix in 2021. It quickly became Netflix’s most-watched series of all time and also made the streaming service a boatload of cash.
According to a report by the Los Angeles Times, Squid Game may have increased the value of Netflix by nearly $1 billion. “‘Squid Game’ turned out to be a bargain beyond compare,” reads the LA Times report. “Made for about $2.4 million an episode, about a fourth the cost of ‘Stranger Things,’ the nine-part series went on to win six Emmys, set a Netflix record of 1.65 billion viewing hours in its first 28 days of release and — according to internal Netflix documents — increase the value of the company by an estimated $900 million.“

Speaking on the latest episode of her Unlocked podcast, Savannah revealed that her mother recently gave her 30 to 40 handwritten letters, which she’d written while in prison, detailing her daily life behind bars and how she misses her husband, Todd. “She actually sent me 30 to 40 days’ worth of letters. It was just like her daily diary journal,” Savannah said. “I’ll eventually put them out, read them at some point to give people updates on how they are doing and what was going through their minds.” “I don’t think there’s a single letter that goes by that she does not say how much she misses my dad,” she added.

Disney+ is boosting its growing K-drama slate with Han River Police, an action comedy series starring Kwon Sang-woo (Stairway to Heaven, Curtain Call) and Kim Hee-won (Netflix’s Unlocked).
Kwon will star as Han Dujin, the hot-tempered sergeant of the Han River Police Force who holds back for nobody, while Kim plays Lee Chunseok, a laid-back lieutenant with the exact opposite personality. Stuck together on patrol of Seoul’s Han River, the two officers are faced with emergency situations ranging from terrorism to everyday accidents and other incidents requiring emergency assistance — a premise that suggests all of the action, humor and offbeat crime-solving of the classic buddy cop genre.
Disney hasn’t released additional casting info for the show, but local news outlet Korea JoongAng Daily reports that Shin Hyeon-seung (So Not Worth It), Lee Sang-yi (Hometown Cha-Cha-Cha) and Bae Da-bin (Gangnam Beauty) will co-star as other cops on the Han River Police force.

With its list of new releases for March 2023, Amazon Prime Video might be rolling out its most impressive monthly lineup yet.
We know that sounds like something straight out of a press release but in this case, it’s actually true! Prime Video, bless it, has some excellent original titles like The Boys and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, but its monthly release updates have often been less inspiring than its TV peers. That’s certainly not the case with March 2023 though.

Netflix Top 10 (Week of February 13): ‘You’ and ‘Your Place or Mine’ remain atop charts for 2nd week
Netflix has released the Top 10 viewing numbers for the week of February 13, and without any new high-profile releases last week, the charts mostly remained the same as last time. Penn Badgley’s series “You” and the Reese Withspoon-Ashton Kutcher rom-com “Your Place or Mine” did well again, the latter presumably helped by Valentine’s Day last Tuesday.
The fourth season of “You” ended up in the Top 10 in 88 countries with 64.1 million hours viewed, down from 92 million views its launch week with the first five episodes having 38 million views. The first and third seasons also continue to be watched with 22.4 million and 15.6 million hours, respectively.
By comparison, “Your Place or Mine” increased its views to 52.8 million hours vs. the previous week’s 51.2 million views. Again, the romantic comedy from “The Devil Wears Prada” scribe Aline Brosh McKenna probably got a nice bump from V-Day. Other movies returning to the...

March is still winter, no matter which animal you ask, which means it’s still completely acceptable to cancel all plans and curl up under a blanket in front of the TV. Prime Video’s movie library updates throughout the month, with most of its new additions on March 1 — including the “Rocky” saga, multiple “Carrie” adaptations, “12 Angry Men,” and more.
For Prime users who love books and TV, March means the highly-anticipated premiere of “Daisy Jones & the Six,” based on the best-selling novel by Taylor Jenkins Reid.
