Fun with the Data Processing Club
Tweekums12 August 2013
Warning: Spoilers
This twelve episode anime follows the antics of high school girls Yuzuko, Yui and Yukari; the three member of the Data Processing Club. They don't actually do any data processing they merely took over a defunct club and spend their time looking up random things… and even this only takes up a small part of the series. For the most part we just see the girls chatting and doing the sort of things high schoolers might be expected to do. As well as the three main girls there is another trio of girls who they sometimes interact with; although we don't see as much as them it seems they are just as funny in their own way. The other main character is the girls' form teacher whom they always refer to as 'mom'; something the rest of her students pick up on and follow suit.

Fans of slice of life comedy should really enjoy this example, which feels like a cross between Nichijou and Yuruyuri… but with a little bit less yuri (but still some)! The girls might not get up to much but their interaction is consistently funny without seeming forced. For the most part the things they do are the sort of thing that schoolchildren might do and laugh about although I'm not sure any teacher would really let her pupils call her 'mom'… although that was funny and rather cute! There are some sexual references although they are fairly tame so shouldn't cause any offence. The animation might not be the most detailed but it is pleasant to look at with predominantly pastel colours. Overall I'd definitely recommend this to fans of the 'slice of life' genre.

These comments are based on watching the series in Japanese with English subtitles.

One Of The Worst Anime In One Of Anime's Worst Years
EuropeanQoheleth28 August 2013
Warning: Spoilers
It's yet another one of those anime where the premise and the plot are the same. There's a club, they do stuff. Just like Lucky Star, Genshiken and Boku Wa Tomodachi Ga Sukunai, and they are entire FRANCHISES. Unlike in Genshiken or BWTGS however in Yuyushiki they can't manage to do the same thing all episode, they switch from one random and pointless conversation to another with Yui's friends all the while acting like this show should be put down as shojo-ai and calling one of the teachers Mom for some reason. One example is their discussion of what water is. (It's a liquid just like milk, it takes the form of its container having none of its own plus it can be drank, I learned that in school but they didn't?) This is basically what this show is; it's Lucky Star without the targeting (in an advertising sense) of otaku, the main reason why Lucky Star got popular (it seems everybody now likes to think they're nerds but do a really poor job of it). Perhaps my reasons are faulty you may argue but I saw that coming. Similarity shouldn't put someone off entirely but it can help; I like Great Teacher Onizuka (apart from the movie and not being a manga fan I find the manga only OK) and I like the Gokusen dramas (the anime is only fair) and in spite of the WITCH-Winx Club arguments I find Winx Club OK though I used to love WITCH. 2 for 1 sale right here guys, I don't have to watch Lucky Star itself because I've seen Yuyushiki and it was a bit crap.

A Better Slice of Life
colemaibara2 September 2022
One of the better slice of life anime to have come out during an era which was primarily dominated by slice of life. Yuyushiki is a show which I recommend to anyone due to it's almost quaint nature, and inoffensive premise.

I'm writing this as someone who isn't a huge fan of slice of life personally, I kinda tuned out a lot of shows that came out around this era just because not a lot were catching my eye. Just keep in mind going into it, if you're expecting an anime with data processing to go along with it's data processing club, there's not a lot of data processing. At all. Their club activity amounts to "searching on Wikipedia for random topics."
