"Oh, Frites Crew!"
owen-watts16 April 2023
At first I think the Belgian iteration of the bloated drag franchise seemed both very cheap and quite redundant. It didn't have the bold creativity of France or Spain so I was quite sceptical and there were definitely issues with the judges and even the host (I love Rita Baga but she is quite understated here). However, watching it alongside the other newbie (the deeply uneven Sweden), there definitely seems to be a certain strength in Belgium's general safeness and it ended up looking quite comforting in comparison. It sticks to the formula and there's a nice solidarity between the queens which I always prefer. However, ironically like Canada S1, something needs to be done with the judges and possibly poor Rita if there's enough Belgian drag performers about to justify a second season.

What a refreshing show !

So happy to see this version of Rupaul Drag Race with belgian's queens ! The werkroom is stunning and the show/queens are so caring and kind ! Looooove it ! The show is in french because apparently it is the french-speaking part of belgium that produces. I laughed a lot with these queens full of self-mockery, even if I didn't have certain very Belgian references (but there's a topic on reddit that gives you the cultural background for each épisode). And btw i love Rita and the jury and guests (but maybe not luffy tbh). I hope the franchise will continue to develop in Europe and give us great seasons like this one !

Refreshing Drag Art in a tiresome franchise!
gato_kevinali1 March 2024
Despite being the same format and same challenges as all of the other Drag race franchises, this one has the benefit of being refreshing at choosing the drag queens competing. It feels new and exciting, I have to admit Season 1 is waaay stronger cast than Season 2 but still; the better queens (for me) in season 2 are so on other level than the queens on Season 16 of US format, the fashion, the talent, the makeup, the concepts! All of it feels ahead of its time, that's what makes the Belgique franchise so exciting to watch! The judges are charming and Rita is amazing as a host! She feels very natural and seems like she has good chemistry with the girls in the werk room. Some critiques feel out of place but, the same happens in all of the franchises, you just have to accept that art is subjective so, not everyone is going to like and see things as you do! As much as i ADORE some of the looks or performances of certain queens, sometimes judges don't seem to see what I did, and that's okay! At the end of the day this is a reality tv competition series so everything is a game and probably all planed as the season is being done, who knows?

For me this, France season 2 and Dragula are showing audiences where drag is headed in the future! Mark my words and see it for yourself, not everything has to be Supermodel of the world as the US franchise makes people believe! There are LOTS of drag art that hasn't even been shown on TV, but in here you can get a glimpse of other types of making drag!

MAKE SEASON 3 HAPPEN! <3.

Meh at most
Kedm8918 February 2023
I have no idea why this franchise is called drag race Belgium since most of the Belgian population speaks Dutch. But no the arrogant French speaking Belgians will only allow French to be spoken. Makes absolutely no sense.. Furthermore, why have a Canadian host that has nothing to do at all with the country? There's literally a Belgian WINNER (Vanessa van Cartier) in the franchises (Drag Race Holland S2) who speaks French ánd Dutch (plus Italian, English and Spanish). Weirdest choices made by production. The queens do seem fun but also very unpolished and just not on the same level as other franchises. It looks like the producers thought they would make a great show if they just throw a lot of money against it (because the budget is there). I really wish they'd renew Drag Race Holland or create a Drag Race Benelux (Belgium, Netherlands & Luxemburg).

I do not like this spinoff
TwoCheen17 February 2023
The queens all look the same. It seems the aesthetic is Belgium is being skinny, no padding and wrapping yourself with some random fabric. You can tell they are not at the same level as the queens in the US. The first issue I have with this spin-off is the host. Rita is kinda boring, never liked her, not even in Drag Race Canada. However, what I found the most off putting is the bunch of tiny statues of infants at the entrance of the work room. The statues have no clothes and are urinating, I mean, that's weird and they love making close ups at them. I won't finish watching the his spinoff, hopefully they renew DR Holland And DR Sweden is better.

No way it will be renewed for a 3rd season
walchammas29 February 2024
This spinoff is litterally the worst so far. Season 2 being the worst drag race season of all time in my opinion.

1- The challenges: The queens aren't able to shine because the challenges aren't adapted to the queens' talents, which makes the challenges uninteresting, it all feels very amateurish. Maybe the queens' talent this season is also lacking, i don't know.

2- The budget is really disappointing. But i guess we can't hold that against them.

3- The judging is HORRIBLE, the judges seem mean and unlikeable. Most of the time the negative critiques just seem unwarranted and personnal.

Just sad. Please cancel it. We're done.

Terribly unexciting
andrecastro-6748823 January 2024
This first season of Drag Race Belgique, for me, is hands down the most boring season of all the Drag Race franchise. There is very little real banter or wit from the judges, especially during the catwalks (where most of the other franchises have great and hilarious catwalk banter and comments from the judges). It lacks chemistry and pizzazz. I don't understand why the entire Pit Crew all look undernourished and underweight, and in serious need of Vitamin D. I found it difficult to be drawn in or invest myself emotionally with the candidates. The whole competition felt rather cold and stilted. I really hope that they will do better for season 2. Fingers crossed.

Shamefull Attempt
ktofdewinne9 April 2023
If you use Ru Pauls Drag Race as a reference, then you have high expectations anyway. Unfortunately the show doesn't reach that level.

The whole show is messy, Rita doesn't have enough personality to carry the show, besides she's Canadian and has nothing to do with Belgium. (Vanessa Van Cartier is a Belgian winner of the franchise...) Belgium is also more than just Wallonia so it's a bit disturbing to call this Drag Race Belgique when it was mainly a french party.

The lack of diversity is perhaps the worst part of the show. It does not give a representative image of the drag- and queerscene in Belgium.

Rather a shameful attempt and perhaps the least professional of the entire franchise.

If this show wants to move continue and be successful ...
yyc40322 March 2024
... it needs a new host/hostess, fast!!

Rita does not have the "it" factor to make the show entertaining which affects its overall success and enjoyability.

Rita does have talents, but after two seasons, they are not for hosting Drag Race Belgique. She is not funny (although she comes across as she thinks she is). It's not witty nor intelligent, and too predictable.

Whoever is calling the shots on how to dress Rita for Season 2 needs to change careers. They only made it worse for Rita. Her looks each episode were odd and unpolished to the point of being funny, unfortunately.

I hope Season 3 gets a go-ahead, and a better host/hostess! Belgium deserves better ... maybe a great local and popular drag queen instead?
