There's Something In That
boblipton12 March 2023
Goodman and Jane Ace sit in a movie theater and comment on the series of clips of such things as umbrellas with windows in them and the cormorant fishers of Japan in this short subject.

The Aces began as an impromptu act. Goodman was the movie's theater critic, tasked with reading the comics on air for an extra $10 a week. One day, the following act didn't show up, and the couple filled in the time with conversation using Goodman's wit and Jane's facility with malapropisms. The show ran for 15 years, and attempts to revive it in other formats persisted into the 1980s. Goodman also began to write for radio comics and later, television shows; his one attempt at a scripted movie flopped, but starting in 1934, the two of them did a series of short subjects for RKO. This, as you might guess, is one of them.

It's an amusing short, with Goodman sounding like an amiable Jack Benny, and Jane doing a saner version of Gracie Allen.
