Don's partner lost his mother in this episode. His non-show of any emotion here was absolutely amazing. Just stating that after all she was 91, was pretty heartless coming from a surviving son. Was there a love-hate relationship between the two? Obviously, Don's behavior during what was to be the eulogy part was ridiculous at best.
The trip to Hawaii was interesting, but gave little meaning to the episode.
John Hamm has the role of Don Draper down to a scientific being. For that, no one can criticize him. He is up to his old ways.
He is so good as he is able to read what the public wants in a product. He is able to get into the product itself for meaning.
Is he seeing his own demise coming? The part with the doorman collapsing and what he viewed while reading a book makes one think of this.
How interesting that he has befriended a heart doctor who of course warns him to stop smoking. What is this coming to?
