Gordon at his best
Moishar13 June 2013
I first saw "Gordon Behind Bars"when it first aired. After re-watching again, i was surprised that there was not even one single review for this.I never write reviews but "Gordon behind Bars"is to me was personally heart-touching and full of goodwill. No dramatization,heart-endearing&the message that was carried out throughout the 4 episodes made me smile,teary-eyed,and a perquisite yet deep sadness i can relate to with people who don't get a second chance in society and spiral into a never-ending deep hole.

I do enjoy Kitchen Nightmares/Hell's Kitchen and his other TV"reality"shows, but the"staged"feeling was of course always present. Gordon uses his cooking skills to give the opportunity to the inmates in prisons to rehabilitate,no happy endings,no trophies,no shock value, just Gordon being him not being able to control his authority, and making an effort to boost that tiny glimmer of hope in some inmates.

I gave a 8/10 scale based on Gordon's Shows ratings, wished Americans would have enjoyed this more instead of stating this being boring...

Gordon's best show.

This is the first time I've seen Ramsey in a reality show that actually seems to be real. It's a shame that the series was so short. He was in the prison for 6 months and only got 4 episodes, with a lot of stuff repeated several times.

Life Changing Television
alexforwine20 October 2020
"Life changing taste" is a tag from the show. Mr Ramsay goes to work in a prison to get prisoners working. This is about change. Prisoners, with no real sense of direction, are taught that hard work and skills equal pride. Mr Ramsay has his own personal reasons for wanting to help these gentlemen. This show is about redemption for some, and is about rehabilitation for others. Kitchen Nightmares was always one of my favorite shows. This show, might not have the immediate sense of action in drama. However, the emotions triggered by seeiing one rise from the ashes, is more heart felt. There is still more than enough drama to keep us entertained. Thank you Chef Ramsay for changing lives in such a positive way.

I found a new measure of respect for this man...
pcqednn25 September 2021
Gordon Ramsay has become so popular with his cooking shows that by now I assume everybody knows who he is; but other than him being a renown chef and successful businessman I really never saw him as more than another "show-biz" rich guy. In my opinion this tv show is not like his usual shows.

This one has profound meaning since it gave prisoners a chance to learn a trade, better themselves in every way; and rejoin society by becoming productive responsible individuals. It would be great if more people could ( and would) donate their time and participate in this kind of productive programs.

I wish Gordon Ramsay could do more shows like this one. It gave me a deeper appreciation for the "real man" behind his "famous persona". I like this Ramsay better.

This is my favorite of his shows! It truly has meaning behind it, and you can't stop watching because it is an interesting show, and you want the prisoners to succeed so badly!

Great idea

Loved this series, it was more personal and something you could see that Gordon has a real passion and feeling for. Wish this had taken off in other countries. It was a great idea.

Overly ambitious but Ramsay's always interesting
OneAnjel24 January 2022
I normally like Ramsay on all his shows. I think he clearly cares and has a great passion for helping people be their best. But I think this was way over-reaching. He had no way to ensure the Bad Boys would survive beyond his personal hand-holding. The prison system certainly didn't take it seriously. It's the first time I have seen him simply not think something through to the end. But to his credit, it apparently survived of and on for about 5 years. His being frustrated at having to work around the rules within the prison seemed eye-opening - I hadn't realized his level of expectation to control things beyond his scope. I understand his wanting to save some of these guys since he couldn't save his own brother. But, as many of us know, only an addict can save themselves. If you try to help them, they're likely to take you down in the process. Ramsay's ambition and level of success is so inspiring and commendable. But this show was more frustrating for me than interesting, on many levels. As someone else points out, he spent 6 months with this program going to teach and train them daily through that maddening routine yet we saw very little with only 4 episodes.

Love the concept

Warning: Spoilers
I just absolutely love this man, and have even more respect for him after watching this. He is such a passionate person and it always shows. It's sad to see how much he had to fight for the higher ups to understand that just giving up on prisoners was not doing any good. If there were more people like him willing to take the time to really work with these people and put some faith in them, there could be fewer people in prisons.

Gordon Behind Bars

Warning: Spoilers
I watch a lot of Gordons shows. This is one of my favorites. It kinda shows just how tough he really can be. He is inside a Prison. He can be Killed in minutes. But he goes out and works with them. That one part in episode One. When he comes out and says who Stold the little food items. It did not seem like a lot but he did say it can lead to a knife or something damages. So no bull crap who was it. When the man said it was me. It kinda blew me away when most of the men kinda lost it on the theif. It was like what are you doing trying to take away the job from us. Gordon top chief in the world is training us in jail. Stop it on the crap and just silence to him. Love the first job in making cupcakes and selling them to the staff. Plus making them look fancy and making the poster. The one man even said Ramsey we had to put your name on it so we can sell more. Great show it just shows more about Chef Ramsey. He is a pretty cool man and had a rough past.

The premise of this show is purely disgusting.

Prisons should be abolished, prisoners shouldn't be used as slave labour. It's sick and disturbing that Gordon Ramsay thought this was ever a good idea. I've lost a huge amount of respect for him.
