This show's cast and writers room deserve so much praise. They balance a story about work and family like few shows can.
And they do it in a way that ls rich and textured, both visually and plot wise.
All on a small network's budget.
I love how writers made me accept Trey (Jeff Pierre) as a Ranger. The character has had several career changes after he left the service, as many soldiers do. But to make that 30-something life review believable on a tv show is impressive.
Writers showing the long path Cordell (Jared Padalecki) has taken to mourn and grieve his wife--and now underscoring how grief never really goes away with his former captain--they don't drop and run on mental health.
The donor at the charity function impressed with the Walker family's multi-generational approach speaks for me, too. Every time I see Abeline (Molly Hagan) and Bonham (Mitch Pileggi), I love it. And I'm so pleased to see a woman over 30 on a CW show.
Not to mention that Stella (Violet Brinson) and Auggie (Kale Culley) have come across as real teens. I've loved the characters and yelled in frustration at them. Good job, writers, in never sending me completely over the edge into hating the "kids."

On a lighter side, may I say that Kevin (Jake Abel) still seems suspicious. I can't decide if he's just a legitimate "politician" in the old school, backroom way.
Or if it's something more.
Also, kudos to the writers adding Julia (Anna Enger Ritch ) She is such a strong, independent, absolutely gorgeous woman. We need more of those on the screen.
Yes, the character has had trauma. She seems skittish. But this episode not only showed her working with Cordell, but also reaching out to him with honest emotions rather than pushing him off.
---
Overall, just a delight of a season. Can't brag or recommend it enough even if the show is hard to find on live tv.
