This is a series that is a little like the Wedding Veil series on Halmark late in 2022 and new episodes cycled through again in early 2023. This time there are 4 female friends who each have a story. The overall story starts New Years Eve in college where the 4 women form the Love Club. Jump forward something like 10-20 years and Nicole calls her three friends to help her confront her pen pal who stood her up that night the 4 met.
Nicole finds what she thinks is probably the formerly anonymous pen pal and sets out to meet him. The trouble is she starts with a lie. That might have been innocent, but she is messing with another woman's real business. And it turns out Josh has a lie of his own.
Nicole has the emotional maturity of a middle school girl. She is chasing a ridiculous fantasy romance and ignores reality. Sometimes, her clubmates feed that and sometimes they try to put the brakes on. And unlike the Wedding Veil trio, these club members don't always agree on important things. Josh isn't much better as far as maturity. He gives off a creepy vibe as he watches Nicole on two consecutive dates with another man. So chemistry between the two actors? Where would we see it?
No doubt thus movie has some unusual elements. It sets up a number of silly situations that are supposed to be comedy, but it didn't appeal to me at all. The dialogue is a little crazy as well. Unlike a lot of Hallmark movies, this one didn't dazzle with scenery or sets. The ending is a bit of a surprise, but not really since it leads where you expect. I also thought the ending was clumsy, but then the whole thing had a clumsy feel to it.
There is plenty of diversity in this movie. It. It also appears to be produced outside of Hallmark and Crown Media and it ran somewhere else prior to Hallmark, apparently in Canada.
I am curious about the other 3 clubmates and hope the rest of the series comes to the States, probably Hallmark.
