A different and curious making of
Rodrigo_Amaro31 March 2024
A somewhat interesting behind the scenes of 1991's "Cape Fear" whose main attraction is the way the editor made the material by showing a back and forth between the actual scene from Scorsese film and how it was filmed, rather than showing it two times (first the making, then the scene) or presenting simultaneously on two split screens. No interviews with the actors involved neither the director, it's basically the whole scene being filmed from different angles, along with the actual moment on the film. It's a little confusing to follow through as they evolve from one another time and again, but it's also fascinating to look at them and see the difference between the magic on screen and how the magician is creating everything. 6/10.

I liked the first one better

Warning: Spoilers
I was lucky enough to watch the original 1962 version of Cape Fear recently with Gregory Peck and Robert Mitchum and I compared it in my mind to the 1991 version with Nick Nolte and Robert DeNiro. Despite the fact that the former was in black and white I consider it far superior and its not because Peck and Mitchum did the better acting job. In the 1962 version Gregory Peck's character was a loving devoted husband and father who was determined to protect his family at all costs. His daughter was cute and likeable and so was his wife. In the 1991 version, Nick Nolte was an unfaithful husband and clueless father and his daughter was a little trollop. Robert De Niro used religion in his portrayal of Max Cady in fact he blashphemed it by having a cross tatooed on his back and talking about speaking in tongues. Mitchum was able to convey evil and menace without using God in vain. Do yourself a favor and watch the original Cape Fear if you want to see a good first class thriller.
