This time, I'm reviewing episode 11 of Season 1 of the Night Court Revival. This episode is entitled Ready or Knot.
Starting with episode 6, this Revival had been showing a slow but steady progression upwards in terms of the improving of this series' quality. That has changed with this episode, for this is the weakest entry since Episode 5 , but thankfully this episode is still much better than Episode 5.
This show just isn't learning to cut out that Abby personal drama crap. It didn't work in the other episodes that made use of it and it doesn't work here.
The main things that work here are the performance of John Laroquette, the wonderful performance of Kapil Talwalkar playing Court Clerk Neil, the maintaining of the sets, and the implementation of the good ol' laugh track Other minor things that worked were a few of the jokes and the implementation of a decent number of court cases. However, I must admit these trials were not exploited for nowhere near their complete comedic potential.
Aside from Abby's personal drama, other things that did not work in this episode were the low quality writing, the poor laugh quotient, and the bad acting of both India de Beaufort and Lacretta. Also, quit with all of these references to Harry Stone. Those started getting old with the Pilot Episode. WE GET IT. You are cashing in on an old property. Quit bringing them up in nearly every episode.
One thing I must admit though is that there was a twist in this episode that I didn't see coming.
Next time, I'll be reviewing the twelfth episode entitled DA Club. Stay tuned!
