The original title was 'Gerard' but given the character was based on 'Nick DeSimone's' uncle, his family pressured him to change the name, and he came up with 'Two Boroughs In July' and eventually shortened it to 'Two Boroughs'.
Nick DeSimone cast his real-life grandfather, Sam Sciarretta. Mr. Sciarretta was born in 1909, making him 103 when he appeared in the film, playing the 82 year-old father. Given the film was heavily based on something in Sciarretta's life, he played a character that was based on himself.
All The Father scenes, which take place in Staten Island, were filmed in Spring Lake, New Jersey, at locations that could be matched to The Staten Island house that was used. This is because Sam Sciarretta, Nick DeSimone's real-life 103 year-old grandfather, who played the role, couldn't be taken too far from his assisted living home. The backyard scene was filmed across the street from his home, and the interior scene was filmed in the home's kitchen. The front yard footage (without Sciarretta) and the reverse shots were filmed at the New Dorp, Staten Island house.
