I really tried.
kgill-6894419 January 2024
I have always enjoyed Anthony Anderson and Mama Doris together but this show is very hard to stay engaged in. It's SO slow and the commercial breaks make it worse when you are already struggling with momentum. The editing is horrible. No one can possibly be that surprised or shocked by anything happening in this show. Why are the contestants the same? I bet Jamie Foxx thought this would be a hit but I'm sorry, for me, it's a major miss. I'm more bored watching it than anything else. I can't even say what could help because we've seen this show in other shows before. We need not re-invent the wheel here.

What is this? Junk, recycled television.
Xavier_Stone5 January 2024
This is a knock off of the masked singer, and a poor one at that. All the scripted fake omg moments, holding their breath, super excited to find out who is someone's celebrity relative?

They are truly out of ideas for this one to make the cut for new television shows. Rehash of a rehash type show over hyped and promoted all out to garner some sort of attention.

Moves very slowly
stony-70-5986664 January 2024
Has high hopes but the show moves so slowly. Three mystery singers and a large audience of a very eclectic group of potential players along with a couple of contestants who really have no impact on anything other that chewing up the clock. The rules are explained over and over along with what's next so many times but it's needed because some of it does not make sense and watching it just makes we hope any following episodes get cleaned up. It's sad that the longest lasting game shows are simple but they do not seem to get that. The host does on ok job and I get he likes his mom but I don't tune in for that stuff.

Fun to watch!

If you like celebrity trivia and guessing games, you will like this show. It's nice to see real people being cast to play and win money instead of just "voting" and only seeing celebrities (not that that isn't enjoyable on other shows, don't get me wrong). They've combined it all and it's light and fun! As with all other shows, they usually get better with each season, as they navigate what works and what doesn't. I bet this is going to be just like that! I think it's a great concept, and again, light and fun! Turn off the stress brain for an hour. Anderson and his mama are great! I kinda wanna try out for this one. Lol!

Just what no body ask for. A nepo game show.
sirdubs29 February 2024
A show entrenched in nepotism faces challenges in attracting viewers, partly due to the perceived entitlement of nepotism-bred Hollywood scions. Audiences value authenticity and fairness, but when individuals receive opportunities primarily due to family connections rather than merit, it undermines trust. Moreover, the proliferation of entitled nepo-kids often results in a lack of diversity and fresh perspectives, stifling creativity and innovation. Audiences seek narratives that reflect a broader spectrum of experiences, yet nepotistic environments typically prioritize the interests of a select few. Consequently, viewers may shy away from such shows, preferring to support content that genuinely showcases talent and offers equal opportunities, unclouded by familial influence and entitlement.

Scraping the Bottom of the Barrel on Night 1.

Warning: Spoilers
I have been seeing ads for this show all month, thinking to myself.. God what a stupid idea for a show. Go with your instincts.

When It was on immediately after the Packer game I decided to give it a chance for a couple celebrities. I figured that their first episode might have some real A list names to capture an audience. I was wrong. A mindless nonsense of a show as expected.

The only entertaining part of the show is watching the host and the audience pretend like they know who these celebrities are, after the reveal. How are you going to have a show where I don't even recognize the celebrities!? Had to google who Lauren Alaina, Cameron Bure, Carnie Wilson, Michelle Williams even were.

D- or F+ show.

If you like game shows & music, watch this.
maradonnachie-7349013 January 2024
I don't usually leave reviews but I had to put one up to counterbalance the negative reviews this show is getting.

We only have two episodes of this show as of my writing, but I absolutely adore it already.

If you enjoy shows like The Masked Singer, or To Tell The Truth, you'll love this. It has the same host and his momma from To Tell The Truth.

It's pretty simple to understand the rules, and it's fun to guess who the secret celebrity is behind the screen. They are very recognizable celebrities as well. I won't name names, so I don't give away spoilers, but if you are interested in American pop culture, chances are you will know the celebrities without the blurb they give you to explain who they are.

Fun, and family friendly.

Guessing For Dollars
atlasmb18 January 2024
Like "The Masked Singer", this show features hidden celebrities. But on "The Masked Singer", the singers compete against each other; there are no contestants. "We Are Family" has an audience of 100 contestants and they compete for money. Also like "The Masked Singer", the hidden celebrities are not all Grammy-winning singers, and clues to their identities are provided.

Anthony Anderson hosts this show with the assistance of his mother, of course, where $150,000 is awarded each episode. In two rounds, relatives of celebrities sing alone and then in duet with their famous relatives. During this process, clues are given as to who is hidden behind a "super sphere", which sometimes reveals a silhouette of the celeb. In each round, contestants get two guesses.

At the end of round one, the contestants who guess correctly split $20,000. Those who guess correctly after round two split $30,000. The contestant who correctly guesses the fastest (in both rounds) becomes the "star player", who then plays alone trying to guess the identity of a final celebrity as he/she sings with a relative and five clues are given. The prize for guessing correctly after the first clue is $100,000. Lesser amounts are awarded after subsequent clues. An incorrect guess yields zero dollars. The audience remains the same over multiple episodes, so the contestants try to rack up money over the course of the season.

Two suggestions for viewers: 1) If you read the cast listing, there are spoilers and 2) some of the comments by the relatives could be red herrings.

This is an entertaining show. The vocal performances vary in quality, but they are mostly enjoyable. There are also some touching moments between family members. Along the way, Anderson solicits guesses from audience members, and some of them are plain stupid.

Fake!
Marynewcomb201327 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
I broke down and tried to watch the first episode and wow, it's cringe worthy!! The audience that's playing just gives off that we are following a script vibe!! Example of this is right after the first duet that was performed and you could clearly her family member in the "globe/sphere singing was also female! You could see her silhouette but one guy was asked who he thought it was and he said, (drum roll please) the male rapper Nelly! How can you honestly mix up a strong female voice, (from destinys child) with a deep male crap rap voice if you are being honest? You can't & it's just flat out scripted!

You can also watch how each audience "player" is poorly acting! One guy acting like he he was blowing kisses at what his names mom but was looking more like giving her that Italian hand & chin gesture! Avoid this fake crap like it's the plague!

Harmonies
winescoop11 January 2024
WE ARE FAMILY is an enthralling one-of-a-kind game show that features family members, one of them famous, singing together on stage. Listen closely to the harmonies. They take me back to my roots growing up in the 1960s singing along to girl groups like The Supremes and performing in talent shows as a vocalist. In college, I majored in classical piano, attended concerts in New York City, and attended an opera with Luciano Pavarotti. I am passionate about music. I look forward to future episodes produced by the amazing Jamie Foxx who starred in RAY. This is a 2004 American biographical musical drama film focusing on 30 years in the life of rhythm and blues musician Ray Charles. Ten Beautiful Stars!

Terrible and the stakes are low
cruzmonet30 January 2024
Wow the stakes are low with insignificant prizes that are shared.... So dumb and convoluted. A lot of uninteresting random people talking and joking way too much that are boring! Bring back To Tell The Truth such a better show!! Also they have boring D-list celebrities that add nothing to the show. For me a good game show has as many interesting comics as contestants so the banter is high level and actually entertaining. Also Mama has no real purpose here like she did on To Tell The Truth. So dumb and confusing I predict that it gets cancelled and hopefully To Tell The Truth comes back to Hulu.

Boring!!!!

Warning: Spoilers
Script sucked, the fake picked contestants/audiences and more... it's so rigged up. I almost fell asleep at the first part plus catered more towards a certain audience as well. It'd just be best to skip on this.

I was hoping for a better show than this not something that was poorly put together. SMH...

If you are slightly stoned, you'll probably love it!
lisamckenzieolb1 March 2024
There are a few things that I do like about the show. The first is Anthony Andrews he's super likable and has a wonderful smile and seems quite genuine. The second thing I like about the show have been a lot of the duets. Some of the reveals have been quite sweet between the relatives, and that has been enjoyable to watch. But what makes the show almost unbearable, is the audience of contestants. As someone stated in an earlier review, I agree it is so bizarre that they have the same contestants week after week and some of them aren't wearing the same clothes even though Anthony Andrews and his mama change clothes every time so it is quite confusing. The contestants themselves are some of the most un Usual and odd people with strange facial expressions - all extremely exaggerated, and when the mystery relative is about to walk out of the bubble, when the camera shows leaning in in anticipation, it is so bizarre. I did find that the show got drastically better as soon as I ate my gummy's. It's almost like going to the Rocky horror picture show where you wanna throw food to television. And don't get me started on the canned laughter and the applause that sometimes is played when the contestants aren't clapping if you catch it at the right time. My prediction is that this will soon be a cult classic, and that some of the contestants will go onto form their own reality shows.

I enjoy the show so far
wilsonkrystal-4274415 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
*Spoiler Alert* Some of the audience members are absolutely clueless. Giving the benefit of doubt, maybe they're too far away to see the silhouettes like we do at home to make out the gender!? I knew it was JoJo Siwa before the relative even started singing. All that glitter and those bow earrings were a dead giveaway. Also, it's fox so some of the celebrities will definitely be from other shows on the network, which is fine. I'm also fine with the pace of the show. I like the fact that everyone has a chance to win some money.

Am I crazy or is that Kenan Thompson in the audience they keep panning back to?

Love it!
oceankitty197422 March 2024
This is a good alternative to masked singer. I stumbled on this and I loved it. Love anthony's mama. She is a blast...some of the stars are easy to guess. Others not so much... I did guess a few before the clues just by how the relative was dressed. It is a really fun show. I hope it has more season. The contestants are kinda crazy too but it's a great game show I hope I can be on it one day. And not all the stars are singers. Watch that screen close and listen to what the relative says a lot of clues so drop when they talk. The second show was my favorite of them all so far... so many surprises love it!

Suggestions for production
GigSchmidt1 March 2024
1- at the end of each segment explain all clues in detail. The six images displayed and the verbal clues by the visible singer and the answer given to momma prior to singing.

2- at the end of each singing segment also show each of the audience members that correctly identified the hidden famous singer. And especially do so at the end of the second singing segment, before the one contestant is to be announced for the opportunity to win the $100,000 grand prize. After each of the 2 singing segments, if there are a lot of people that correctly identified the hidden famous singer group them on screen in multiple screens. But at the end, regardless of how many correctly identified both singers, individually show each on screen.

3- at the end of the show, when you are recapping, show all three pairs of singers onscreen together again. One pair per frame.

All three of the production changes can be done in post, via editing and voice overs. So you can go back now and make the changes even after filming but before airing the show.
