Something Old (#8.23)
ComedyFan20109 August 2015
Warning: Spoilers
I don't think that Robin will change her mind. It seems to me she is just having cold feet, and this can happen before wedding even when everything was perfect. Especially makes sense with somebody like Robin who never wanted to be in a relationship.

It isn't really my favorite episode though. Barney and Robin's father spending time together seems like a great idea that could end up having fun story lines since Barney always wanted a father and the father always wanted a son, but it was not very entertaining in this episode.

Lily, Marshall and Ted packing was fun in some point, but not the whole story, just little moments, such as young Ted with a fanny pack and the three of them back in the days dressed up as Destiny's Child.

Strange, logical flaws and foreshadowing
pgillavila-8435614 March 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This episode has a few flaws, but I like it, generally.

In season one, Robin and Ted didn't work out because Ted wanted marriage and Robin didn't, so it's weird that in this episode, it shows that she always wanted to get married since she was a kid. So if this was her original childhood intent, why didn't Ted and Robin work out? I mean, i understand why, they had other issues, but still.

Also Teds line about how he shouldn't focus on the past because it's already gone, is heavy foreshadowing to the ending of the show, which is the death of the mother, Tracy. It's sad, weird and somewhat out of place for the penultimate episode of the penultimate season, but I can't put it past it, since it is all the way entertaining and somewhat great.

Mixed Feelings As Season Heads To Its Close
slightlymad221 March 2015
With the title of this episode being "something old" and the next episode being titled "something new" I expected a double header focusing on the wedding of Barney and Robin, but I guess I'm wrong.

Plot In A Paragraph: Robin Scherbatsky Sr. is in town. He and Barney (the son he never had) bond doing one of Barney's favourite activities, laser tag. But not all is harmonious between the father/son duo, and soon they are at war. Literally. However their bonding time leaves Robin time to carry out an important task, namely finding the locket she buried near the Central Park carousel when she was a teenager, that locket which was always intended to be her "something old" at her wedding. Meanwhile, Marshall and Lily are having trouble trying to decide what to take with them to Italy and what to throw away, so they call in the packing expert, Ted.

So Ted clearly still has feelings for Robin (who didn't know, or at least suspect that??) and Robin is having doubts about marrying Barney, and is maybe thinking Ted is the guy for her. I didn't like the end scene at all!! Everything was fine with Robin and Barney at the end of the last episode, so why bring all this negativity and doubts in to it?? On the plus side Barney and Robins Dad at Laser Tag was great fun.

I Like it Warning: Spoilers
Actually I like this episode because of several lessons that I can learn from it. 1) it shows how it is important to act mature during a relationship. we can destroy our relationship by stupid little actions, because at that time any tiny move and behavior of us, means a lot for our partner. and also, I learn that I have to upgrade my tolerance and not being so sensitive to any little actions from my partner. being so sensitive (that usually occurs near wedding days) can cause to separation. 2) Oh!nice guy! I mean Ted. it shows how nice he is when he become worry of the chair, and after that going to the central park and not his important meeting, just for his friend when she is in bad mood. he is full of kindness and humanity. we can see the respectfully sense easily from Robbins eyes. I think we all need a friend like a Ted in our life, and this is why I like this episode. It really shows us the type of friend (Ted) that we all need. 3) I like the last words about the sign from nature. when Ted tried to explain there is no sign, when he tried to make Robbin calm, and when he tried to speak logically (near all we can see how sad Ted is, when he wants make Robbin OK with Barney. we can see he still love Robbin; but just because of his humanity, he starts to speak logically) 4) I can learn how we should be hopeful while every thing can be change completely in a week!

I like all these.

Disappointed.

I am disappointed just for the fact that writers arbitrarily twist the story. Don't they watch just the previous freaking episode? Why would they do that? Wasn't everything great for Barney & Robin in the last episode. Where the h*ll this new stuff come from? In just one episode writers have a freedom to turn everything on opposite direction and I hate that. I hate the inconsistency with all my heart. Shame on you writers, producers, directors who are butchering the show.

Who knows what they will show on the next episode. I don't like being duped. They introduce new people, new events new connections out of nowhere just to screw up with us.

So lame this Robin & Ted thing
tomasspenna8 July 2022
Plus Robin is completely out of character of caring that much about this stup1d stuff, specifically considering how much she is a skeptical, independent and down-to-earth type of woman. She would have never ever cared about some cr4p buried many years ago.

As always, whenever this show tries to be deep it fails miserably
puzgolac5 June 2022
A completely funless episode. No jokes, but instead they try to do some forced drama and it is woefully bad. Whoever wrote this show is just not up to the task of writing serious meaningful plot. They are also not so good at writing jokes, but the jokes are still better than the drama.

Overall, another unenjoyable filler episode.
