Leandro and Silvina are a happy well to do bourgeois couple with an active social life, apparently in a stable and caring relationship. Leandro is a successful architect. Silvina is pregnant with their first child and both expect the birth with a joyful feeling of anticipation.

One day, Leandro is summoned by a woman that informs him he has a twelve year old daughter, Lucero, from a past relationship with the woman's sister, who is now in hospital facing a serious illness and is unable to take care of Lucero. He is initially dumbfounded, in a state of disbelief and anger but finally accepts his responsibility. He agrees to have Lucero at his home for a while (por un tiempo) until her mother recovers, which is far from certain.

Naturally, Lucero finds difficult to accept her unknown father and, on top of that, to change her house, her neighborhood, her habits. The task is not easy for Silvina either, at this delicate moment of her pregnancy. She will have to overcome many obstacles, reorganize family life, find a way for the newcomer to get out of her shell and little by little to create an affective bond between father and daughter. After a while the situation deteriorates, generating tensions and bitter disagreements between Leandro and Silvina.

The tale is smoothly told by director and cowriter Gustavo Garzón, characters are credible and there are no concessions to sentimentality. It is a simple story that reflects on responsibility and what being a father means. Acting is good all around. Well worth watching.
