What intrigues me about this incredible series (and I have been watching from the very beginning) is the in depth investigations of said haunted properties. DEAD FILES holds that destinction, and good for them as there are countless paranormal experience shows that only explore the ghosts... But the how and why are absent.
The program is extremely well designed and thoughtfully executed and to a degree, is a fascinating trip into US history. In this case, Steve and Amy head out to South Carolina, their client has a beautiful home that is trapped in a sphere of uncanny activity. Steve discovers that the property apparently was a hunting ground; land barons who tracked down and killed escaping slaves. This may have been at a time when slaves were finally freed, tieing into the Juneteenth holiday and all its historical importance.
The rest of the research is stunning, case in point a wealthy family who later bought the same property and lost, and almost immediately, many of their children. It jumps to a more contemporary setting, concerning a man about 30 years earlier, killed in an accident and whose spirit now haunts the house. This person in question (quite possibly) is the phantom fiend, bent on killing the man who now owns his house.
One curious thing Steve did not do (in this case), is try to contact the immediate former owner to see if they had similar experiences. Of course, there may have been legal entanglements, as to why they sold someone a haunted house? Did they know it, did they hide it? It gets complicated, and then the lawyers step in. Not a PEOPLES COURT show.
Whatever the case, it's extremely fascinating and it makes you wonder if situations, as such, may be underlying problems so many others could be experiencing with their own homesteads --but NEVER would think they are haunted.
Lessons learned: Do the research. Accordingly, the series always ends with an update, subject to whether the parties involved took Amy's advice and contacted additional help. The family in this case obviously did, but there are those who strangely do not or delay the cleansing process, which is the worst possible of all endings. Thank You DEAD FILES for doing such a great job for so many innocent people. If you need help big time, perhaps with your own home, best to call these pro's. SEASON 15 EPISODE 5.
