A prequel to the actual story
Chaokage11 January 2021
The highlight of this series was the ending actually. It made me realize that this story was nothing more than an introduction to the actual story. Overall, the story of this series is great but you'll find yourself dealing with very uncomfortable situations in it as it doesn't shy from the truths of that time and they are as bad as it is today if not worse. An authentic look at Korea during the times when it was called Joseon mixed with historical and mythical elements. The love duo Lee Seung-gi and Bae Suzy were great and I enjoyed their relationship and how they see love despite what they have come to know about their fate.

Lee Seungi crying acting is really good. The story plot is good but it is too long. The ending is somewhat not satisfying. Good chemistry between suzy and seungi.

The most exciting costume drama
phd_travel12 June 2021
Hands down to date in 2021 this is the most enjoyable well written and directed and superbly exciting historical K drama. Unlike many costume dramas it doesn't lose steam or get bogged down in repetitive palace intrigue. There is a wonderful blend of mythical creatures, a strong love story with plenty of romantic beautifully filmed magical scenes and songs sung by the actors, and meaningful and exciting fighting action not just filler action. The story starts off strongly with the romance of the parents of the main character played by Lee Yeon Hee and Choi Jin Hyuk who is a scene stealer here and later on. Later on the younger crowd takes over and they are appealing and charming. Lee Seung Gi has the personality that is so likeable he shows why he gets so many roles over handsomer actors. His transformations are good not Twilight over the top. Suzy Bae is just so sweet and feisty - never annoying. What a star. The supporting cast is good to with early roles of Sung Joon and Yoo Yeon Seok.

Even if you think you might be bored with costume dramas this one is different from those before or after.

Highly entertaining fantasy K-drama.

There are many emotions that you will go through with this drama but I can guarantee if period fantasy genre is your scene, you will fall in love with Lee Seung Gi and Suzy's characters in this drama. They are such a lovely and sweet pairing. 24 episodes sounds like a lot but I was left wanting more at the end of it. I loved that the female characters were very strong.

I am completely amazed by this story, by this great series!

It teaches us Tolerance, Perseverance, Courage and Trust!

It teaches us how Discrimination could ruin an innocent person's life!

Supernatural Action, Passion, Love, Companionship!

LEE SEUNG GI with his EXCEPTIONAL, SUPERB ACTING brought this series to the top! He is one of a kind!!!

All the rest actors were also AMAZING!!!

This series deserves to be in the PANTHEON of Supernatural Kdrama!

You definitely have to watch it!!!

Totally overrated
badchicky00723 November 2020
The scenery and costumes seem nice. Alas, I quit watching after 3 episodes, second try. In short: slow pacing, over the top dramatic. I cannot relate to any emotion whatsoever, are they really trying? Acting seems right for a B-soap when there's nothing else on the tellie. Always wonder why Suzy is so hyped by the mainstream. My eyes hurt when she's on screen looking stupid. Different taste I guess.. There're enough quality k-drama and movies worth your time.

I want a sequel
mcmugged20 December 2019
I really enjoyed this Korean drama. It has 2 of my favorite Korean actors in it--Choi Jin Hyuk and Lee Seung Gi. This is a fascinating story of Korean mythology and the supernatural.

The ending left me wanting a sequel. I would love to see the story continue from where it left off. Those who write K-dramas are missing out on a great story if they don't do a sequel here.

My boyfriend Is a Gumiho!
Park_Min9 December 2023
The introduction wasn't encouraging at all with this extremely superficially imaginary cuts of pseudo romance. Even after the time-skip it didn't improve much in that regards. The romance throughout the drama was overbearing with prolonged dreamy shots that made the lengthy runtime even worse. The drama featured your typical low-level boring villain to keep you bothered. Bae Suzy was too soft to play the role she was given. No matter what she does, she doesn't look intimidating or fierce enough. Sung Joon's acting is usually better than this, I don't why he was so bad here. I don't recommend this one.
