AMAZING treehouses, and just a fun show overall
mysta026 January 2015
When I first started watching the show, the host struck me as very odd - too excited, hugging trees, etc.

But, it turned out to be a feature of the show, not a bug! Pete loves his trees, and it is abundantly clear that he loves his clients.

His vision is astounding, and his creativity is limitless. The crew really knows what they're doing, and every treehouse on the show is breathtaking.

My only complaint, and it's a small one, is that the crew is occasionally forced to act out scripted lines, but it's a fun show, and it is forgivable and doesn't really detract from the overall feel.

If I had $80,000 to spare, I'd call Pete in a second.

Fun to watch

I like shows like this where stuff gets designed and built. I learned about carpentry; something I won't ever do but I want to understand. I do not mind that the show has the same structure every week. I'm not sure chaos would work when your trying to produce a tree house. I'm also into the corny dad jokes and crew camaraderie. And quit picking on Pete. He's not an actor. He's a skilled carpenter. Sorry Tic Tok gen. You really aren't doing any better in your vids. On the real down side, in a world where housing is short and homelessness is increasing building tree house for wealthy folks who often have a town house and a country house seems to be a let them eat cake moment. Maybe Pete could come out of the trees and do some tiny house projects. I can appreciate these tree top extravagances although I have reservations about the social worth. And my.last complaint. The designer who took over in the eighth season has weird ideas about what belongs in a tree mansion. On one episode she installed a dead stuffed raccoon. She also seems to favor light colored furniture. I guess the maid comes twice a week to the arboreal tree palace. In spite of my critique I loved the show. I may some day build a cabin. It won't be a tree house but the show has given me some interesting ideas about what I'd like.

very good show
aidenevalt5 January 2014
It seems like all of the shows these days are just fake and cheesy or just over the top obnoxious. This is definitely not one of these shows. Pete does a very good job hosting the show and makes it very entertaining. Some people may say that this show is boring but I strongly disagree to this. They did a good job at doing this they go through how they do the tree house. Pete nelson the host also obviously actually cares about how people feel.(unlike most actors.)so in other words this is a really good show (one of the few good shows left)and Pete does a very good job hosting the show. I would recommend this show to anyone. I really hope that they keep the show because all of the other shows are over the top.

Excellent and original show
agentcopp120 June 2014
Treehouse Masters, in my opinion, is one of the more original shows out there. It follows Pete Nelson who owns Nelson Treehouse and Supplies which obviously builds tree houses for their clients which can range from families, zoos, museums etc. The show bears a striking resemblance to the old Extreme Makeover: Home Edition in where it follows the construction of these beautiful structures and then at the end reveals it to the family. The difference between the two is that Treehouse Masters does it for paying clients, where the Extreme Makeover did it for free for families in need.

A lot of people seem to complain about the show being another case of the reality TV syndrome where things are scripted and unnatural. I don't see this at all. While certain parts may be scripted, they certainly don't distract from the show at all and I feel that these moments are kept to a minimum. Pete's quirkiness is really the driving factor and I think a lot of the humor you see on the show really does come from his personality, not a script writer. His inherent likableness is very refreshing, and he has a very innocent and childish (childish in a good way) sort of personality that really is one of the main attractions of the show.

The only thing I find slightly annoying about the show is that during every episode, Pete just "happens" to get a call from someone needing tree house repair while he's in the middle of building one. He then goes on an excursion to repair this other tree house while the rest of his crew continues with the current project. The show tries to lie to you and say that these little side tracks are spontaneous and unscripted, but the fact remains that it happens every. Single. Episode. You can expect this to happen every single time you watch the show, and it's blatantly obvious that it was preplanned for the client to call him (or Pete to pretend he's receiving a phone call) during the filming of the show. I mean it's nice to watch Pete go to these other tree houses and do repair work, but it's slightly insulting to me when the show tries to pass it off as "chance" that he receives these calls for help (I also forgot to mention that these other tree houses sometimes just "happen" to be very close to where they're building. It's just an indication that it was planned ahead of time). Overall, I don't mind these excursions but I really hate that the show tries to lie to me that they didn't plan it ahead of time.

So bottom line, this is one of the more original shows I've seen in a while and I feel it has a lot to offer. The lack of crude humor and sexual innuendos present in many reality shows (mainly to appeal to the lowest common denominator) is very refreshing, although I feel that this lack of it is expected with this kind of TV show. It's heartwarming to see the families' reaction and to gaze upon the beautiful creations that Pete makes. The people who give this show 1 or 2 stars for it seemingly being too scripted are likely just sour individuals who were dropped on their heads as a child. There's no reason to really hate this show and even if the scriptiness (is that a word?) puts you off, it certainly doesn't warrant giving this excellent show 1 star. I mean seriously? You need to chill out. I recommend it to everyone.

Great show, wonderful energy
ljazztrm2 September 2017
Really great show. The tree houses are pretty amazing. Pete seems like a great guy with a great energy about him. Some other reviewers have commented on his corny sense of humor and terrible jokes but, because he's such a nice guy, he can get away with it and it makes it charming. Not a lot of people can pull that off! I think it's just an overall 'feel good' show that leaves me with a good feeling.

Pop ups have ruined this sweet show for us...
letsgetmovingllc20 August 2016
We (my husband, son and I) LOVED this show - genuinely nice guys that are incredibly skilled. Until the Pop ups. They are not funny, cute, witty or necessary. They are annoying, low brow attempts at humor. For us, they have made the show unbearable to watch. I thought this show was different. We will skim the future episodes, as my husband and son are planning to build a tree house. This show was just SOOOO perfect for them. I mostly enjoyed the interaction between Pete, his sons and the great workers on his team. I'm sure the pop ups are the reason the show is sadly tanking in the ratings. Other than the pop-ups, the show is really great!

Amazing.
omgitscben8 February 2014
The tree houses that Pete and his team builds are truly amazing and are completely unique depending on the client. You can tell that Pete is very excited about what he does and he is really entertaining and up-beat. The back story of the show is what makes it great. It makes the show much more relatable. I like how they mention the budget of each of the builds. Most of these tree houses are over 100k. I like watching because it really shows how passionate someone can be about something as simple as tree houses and turn that obsession into something awe-inspiring, Also, I am not sure why anyone would say these tree houses lack craftsmanship, they are nothing short of masterpieces.

Boring and scripted "excitement"
firefly90019 July 2013
I am giving this a 3 purely because of the craftsmanship of the treehouses, they are very good and you cant take that away from the guy.... But we don't need yet another American TV show prattling on about the back storys of non important people.

The backstory nonsense isn't as bad as say American Idol or the x factor, but its on par with American guns on Discovery.

Why try to give us stupid drama? Just show the product!!!!

And yeah OK, i get that people have passion about their desired industry but the main guy is just way too cornball to be taken seriously.

I would avoid the show and browse the internet instead if you want to get your fix for treehouses.

Love watching Pete build his treehouse a!
debramag31 January 2014
Absolutely love this program! I love the fact that Pete is always excited building treehouses. You can see he obviously LOVES his job! I only WISH I could live in one. It would be my ultimate fantasy come true!!!! I love watching him pick the perfect tree...he even loves the trees!!! I wonder what the cost is...but since I'll never be able to afford one...I guess that doesn't matter. I'll just continue watching and dreaming. I wonder...if you have dogs..how would they get to the treehouse? Oh, I guess those beautiful bridges would work...as long as the dog isn't to afraid if it moves :) ...that's all I would need....my dog falling out of a tree house...wonder if their health insurance would cover that :)

Jumped the Shark
james-938-6769213 March 2014
The show jumped the shark once the owner started being a tool instead of just a contractor. His acting is terrible and his jokes are just plain awful. Once he started acting like a star the quality dropped. The show looks more like a scripted show than natural. The few earlier episodes were good. Don't waste your time watching unless you want to watch the owner make a fool out of himself. Since I am required to have ten lines of text before my review is posted, I will say again that the owner acts like a tool in the later episodes. Also, you will notice his uncreative rectangle logo is now on everything that everyone wears. How lame. I bet he designed his own logo and thinks it's the best. Again, don't watch the show.

The jokes and shtick have taken over the show
jim-96430 September 2021
Used to be about engineering, construction and the work. Now it seems to be more about jokes and slapstick. I find myself skipping ahead a lot.

Mister Rogers Spends Too Much Time with A Tree.
engelixe18 April 2015
This show would be good if it didn't feel like I was watching a show made for a child. I'm not a fan of reality shows. The "Reality Show Format" is awful. A reality show should not have a script nor a formula; it should feel more like a documentary. If you have seen one of these shows, you've seen them all. Each episode is predictable and mind-numbing. These people explain everything, if someone farts they have to make a narration and repeat it 4 times. We the audience couldn't give a damn about the rich bastards who hired these guys to put up a tree house. I would like to tell them that hiring someone else to make a tree house is about as special as taking a manufactured home camping with you. A TREEHOUSE DOES NOT NEED AN INTERIOR DESIGNER!!!!!!!! No wonder people are moving away from cable, they do not want to be comatose in front of a television having everything explained to them like children.

Them That Can, Do; Them That Can't, Get 15 Min of Fame on Reality TV
clefzet17 January 2015
As far as the production of the show, I have no complaint with it other than my general refusal to watch nearly all "reality" TV featuring no-talent nitwits performing mundane tasks in front of a camera for an audience of people who have no lives to live.

As for the premise of the show, I have big problems with it. I'm an old guy, having been around a long time and have seen a lot. One of the things I saw back in the 60s and 70s were real tree-houses that real people lived in. No, not quarter million dollar redwood, oiled teak and triple-pane glass fantasy "clubhouses" with secret doors, an observation dome and ADA-approved access ramps, but salvaged wood, metal and glass and concrete homemade structures that sheltered people from the elements and provided a safe place to live. AND the tree-houses were built by the residents themselves,. They scraped together whatever they could, poured the concrete, cut the wood (often with a chainsaw because they had no power), hammered the nails, and finished they job the best way they could with what they had. Maybe some friends pitched in to help and in return got some help back on their next project. But NONE of them ever hired any professional carpenters, riggers, or cabinetmakers to do the job for them. They couldn't afford it.

And that is my problem. Young upscale, yuppie losers hiring professionals to build them a fantasy tree-house is just all wrong. Having your main home built by contractors is OK. Unless you are really skilled and have more time than money, a contractor home makes sense. But you are supposed to build a tree-house yourself. Hiring a pro to do one for you is like hiring someone else to whittle you a wooden whistle, do a crossword puzzle for you or paying someone to play hopscotch in your kid's place. With people out of work, having to share housing or living on the streets, there is something really wrong with professional tree-houses. As for the guy with the tree-house company, I can't blame him if there is a whole country full of rich dipsticks who want something quaint and charming cranked out for them that they lack the class to do for themselves. If he can make an honest buck doing carpentry, good for him. But putting it on TV is where I draw the line. I don't need to be reminded about these vacuous morons and their excessive lifestyles. So the answer is obviously to not watch the show and beyond the three episodes that I wasted my life on, I don't watch it. One star is generous of me.

Boring Scripted and Horrible Craftsmanship
akrt99628 January 2014
I agree with the last reviewer about this being scripted and boring however, this seems to be the case for all of the pseudo reality shows produced now. Lazy, uninspired and cheap production defines TV currently. This show falls right in line with the Honey Boo-boo mindless dribble of today.

Where I differ is the quality of the tree houses built. The nit-wit in this show basically throws a garden shed in a tree and calls it a tree-house. Wholly uninspired and classless builds. Anyone that pays this guy to build them a tree-house just got taken for a ride. The only saving grace to this train wreck is when the host "visits" tree-houses built by others and are in need of some "repair". Some of those tree-houses are awe inspiring compared to the big box store shed he tosses into trees.

Terrible host, ruins the show!
sarahjoycehearts6 April 2021
This show makes my teeth hurt. The host says everything like he's talking to a grade schooler and the way he talks makes me want to screen. The designs of the treehouses don't really wow me. They try to hard at making it exciting and end up just repeating themselves. I love watching things like this normally but the bad acting and annoying host totally drove me away. I live for diy stuff and love learning how to do things but this show is just awful.

Cringy garbage
lukew-410168 July 2021
I'm not a fan of any current TV at the best of time as Australia seems to take their own copy of garbage that was produced in the UK or US or worse we get broadcasted US shows . Reality TV is mindnumbing garbage and this show I put up with hearing and seeing the mediocre talentless host think his funny when the better half decides she wants to watch the program . Avoid watching it if you don't want to be falling asleep from boredom it's almost like the program was designed more for children and the yuppies with more money than sense who don't have a ounce of ability in building their own treehouses.
