- Jane and Maura investigate the murder of a woman killed in an arena parking garage. The dead woman had an altercation in the arena with a crazed hockey mom, Mary Bigsby, who punched her in the nose. However, she was attacked a second time in the parking garage and her throat was was slit. People remember her handing out helmet sweat pads to some of the players but the police have little else to go on. The police can't identify her or find her car in the garage. When they finally do identify her, it turns out she's a medical doctor and was seeking DNA samples from teenagers in an obvious attempt to find someone. It all has to do with the death of her sister many years ago. Meanwhile, Caitlin comes to stay with Maura for three weeks while their mother Hope has gone to Europe. Maura's not quite sure how to deal with her.—garykmcd
- Dr. Carla Dalton is killed in the parking garage near a boys' hockey game with a skate hook for tightening laces, and her car was dumped in the river. She was in Boston posing as player patch researcher to get the players' physical data, hoping to track down her nephew Todd, who had Huntington's disease. Player Drew Bigsby's violent mother Mary, found near the corpse, proves innocent. Carla's brother-in-law Michael Leahy killed his wife when Todd was a toddler, fled taking him along and changed their names as Doug and Luke Pierce, even using plastic surgery. He recognized and killed nosy Carla when she came to the game to look for Todd. Cailin shows up at Maura's, asking to stay with her in exam cramming period while Hope is away, ignoring a sitter left in charge. Maura acts as if Cailin's concerned mother, correcting her behavior, but Jane suggests just acting like a big sister.—KGF Vissers
