Dooooon't care, where's Rick?
snypes-903044 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The last time I regretted watching something this much was when they made those filler episodes of Naruto, because that's what this feels like.

When Justin lost his position and involvement with the production of Rick and Morty, we were told that he hadn't been involved in the writing process for a long time and thus we would see no falter in the quality of Rick and Morty's story. This failure of an episode raises serious concerns about the future of Rick and Morty, is this going to become a regular occurrence? B-track stories about characters that audiences forgot about as soon as their debut episode ended? Is every side character from the Rick-and-Morty-verse going to become another Mr poopybutthole?

The show is called "Rick and Morty" so why is Rick completely absent and Morty used as an exposition prompt?

All kind of lame
ricardopoleosales5 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I used to find joy in revisiting Rick and Morty episodes repeatedly, but unfortunately, the 8th episode of season 7 falls far short of that standard. This entire season has been a letdown, with only the episode centered around Prime Rick managing to stand out. The rest, particularly this one, fails to elicit any genuine humor.

What's particularly disheartening is the recycling of lackluster end scenes from older episodes. It's clear evidence that the writers are struggling for fresh ideas, resorting to reheating old content to fill the season. This lack of creativity diminishes the overall quality of the show, leaving viewers like myself yearning for the inventive and original storytelling that initially drew us to Rick and Morty.

If only I could reclaim the minutes spent on this latest episode, staring at the fridge in disappointment. The absence of the clever wit and engaging narratives that once defined the series is palpable, making it a regrettable addition to an otherwise stellar show.

They ruined the joke
jermainecornelo5 December 2023
This was the least interesting rick and morty episode ever, I'm an optimistic person and even I struggled to find something to laugh at in this episode, I groaned at most of the cheesy jokes, AND I LOVE CHEESY JOKES, like they weren't that funny and they just dragged onnnnn!!! I hate that decimal point so much!!! So much of that character's line felt like it was meant to just drag and prolong the episode, it was also the most predictable episode ever, I mean you guys can be cheesy with your humor without being predictable, just look at "Get Schwifty", I'm sorry but after the lackluster Kuato episode following it up with a worse episode, this episode just frustrates me man, and I'm not even a critic.

This might be the worst R&M episode ever
jlschumann5 December 2023
I can't believe how bad and dumb this episode is. The only mediocre part was the rap which at least had a few funny lyrics. The rest of the episode was so uncreative in so many ways. Just dumb and pointless. Really the direction I was hoping this show would never go, where episodes just become "zany" and masturbatory with no interesting or redeeming qualities. They seriously need to revisit who is in the writers room coming up with this stuff. The story line was super boring. The events are completely forgettable. This show used to tickle your brain, and be interesting and fresh. It still is sometimes. But this episode is not. There is so much potential for unique and interesting aliens in this show, and instead everything has become "humans except that they're (insert object here)!" in a bland marvel plot which is not funny, interesting, or creative. Throw in a bunch of puns and you're done I guess. Embarrassing that they wasted an episode with Ice T on this, and a big let down for someone who looks forward to new episodes every week. I really can't believe that the people who brought us some of the most thought provoking and funny TV ever OKed this bag of trash.

Worst episode of the show. Bar none.
klsloveslivewire004 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
There were bad episodes before this one; a lot actually.

This is worse than any of them combined.

#. The plot is stupid, and makes no sense whatsoever.

#. All of the jokes are misses. And that's being generous.

#. The love "plot" is extremely predictable, and nothing worth a damn happens with it. It's also incredibly forced, and progresses very poorly.

#. Morty is nothing but a background character, and Rick isn't even in this episode. He also contributes absolutely NOTHING to the plot, big surprise.

#. The pacing in this episode is the worst the show has ever seen. Scenes happen, MULTIPLE SCENES, for no reason. They don't add anything, they're not funny, and they're CERTAINLY not good.

This is the worst the show has to offer. If it somehow gets any worse than this, I'll be truly surprised. Don't waste your time with this episode. Just skip it.

...Seriously...
kadenkgcampbell4 December 2023
That has to be one of the worst episodes in Rick and Morty history. The first seasons, maybe 1-4 or 5 had just straight perfect episodes with maybe one episode that was just "good" but never "bad". This episode was TERRIBLE.

I think there was one joke where I laughed because it was simply so awful. The show has turned juvenile for the worse. Yes, with this being the 78th episode (give or take), ideas are bound to dwindle, the flame will start to dim, but this was just completely..inexcusable. This season had some great episodes but this one seemed like "Hey, we're kinda stumped on new good ideas let's just throw this one together." Yes some of the jokes and ideas were clever but as a whole, this was just terrible.

I'm never this critical about this show however, this was it for me. They better perfect the rest of this season.

What did i just watch...
ares18154 December 2023
Big disappointment, the quality has been on a free-fall past few episodes, i think they had an AI generating script for this episode, so they can present it in future with comments like: hey this episode was fully AI generated and the audience loved it.

I don't think the producers know their audience any-more, next episode they just can make an uprising of the forks against the spoons with nicki minaj in an microscopic dimension...

Yes without Rick and his inhuman intelligence plus nihilism, it just doesn't work. Please go back to the drawing board and watch season 1 to understand the key points why it was successful in the first place.

Worst Rick and Morty episode ever
svrij-940155 December 2023
This show desperately needed a B plot or would've been a great B plot, it was terrible.

This feels bad because I am usually very forgiving with Rick and Morty and like most if not every episode. But with this one it feels like they sat around the room and took the absolute weakest part of Get Schwifty and decided to make an episode about it. After 5 minutes I regretted putting it on. I understand that sometimes they need to break the formula, but mostly Rick and Morty's dynamic makes each episode fun to watch. Did the writers quit the show this season? What happened? For the first time I can honestly say this was not worth watching.

Awful.

Very bad... - but in a good, entertaining way.
fahlenbockt6 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This whole episode was stupid from beginning to end - but it didn't try to be anything else. They tried to do something completely different here and it turned out to be pretty entertaining. I had multiple good laughs, just for how ridiculously bad some of the puns were (though the "P"-joke was overdone very quick).

It's not as bad as people are rating it here. I'm viewing this whole thing as a spoof of modern action cinema, pointing out all the aspects and cliches, which make these feel so dumb, exaggerating them by a 1000x. It felt refreshing to see Morty in his first solo adventure after all this time + it added some more "depth" and "lore" to one of the side-characters that really wouldn't have needed any - Mr. Goldenfold. I'm really amused by this pseudo-deepness written on him in this episode, and in my opinion this added up perfectly to the overall tone.

It was fast-paced, diverting, stupid to the bone and I liked it for what it was.

Count von Count's weird Rick and Morty Fanfiction
UncleLobster4 December 2023
There is one main rule that all rick and morty episodes have always followed, that it should include both rick, and morty. This episodes fails to follow that formula that every other good rick and morty episode follows.

Instead it's another sidequest episode following another throwaway character that doesn't deserve it's own episode. It feels like I'm watching a victory lap of an older much better episode.

Instead we're left with an episode full of lame number and letter puns, one-dimentional boring characters, way too much flashbacks, and characters explaining what's happening, rather than showing it.

I'm glad we're seeing more of morty, but the writers seem to have a fundamental misunderstanding about what makes rick and morty enjoyable.

People are haters
edjotori25 December 2023
Episode is fine, not the best in the show, not even the season, but ok nonetheless. People are bashing it because of their own expectations and sense of ownership of the show and what they think it should be.

Yes, there are main characters and yes is cheesy, it just feels like if one of those in interdimensional tv had his own full blown episode.

The acting is good and the jokes are funny, lots of puns obviously but very on point. You can skip it and won't miss anything but hey, it's canon now.

Don't know what else to type about to meet the minimum characters in imbd, but my point is people should stop hating so much.

Uh...yeah
ericstevenson5 December 2023
This has got to be the strangest episode of the entire show. It was the only one where Rick didn't appear. I really missed him. The episode opens with Water-T (a character from a previous episode) saying he needs to go to Earth to find someone good at math. I thought he was going to go to Rick, but instead it was Morty's teacher, Mr. Goldenfold. At least I remember "that" character.

It was truly fascinating to see this bizarre story. It was about numbers and letters at war. It ended with 8 turning into infinity, which I guess makes sense. Rick wasn't even in the stinger! I have to appreciate this for how ridiculous it was. While not a great episode at all, definitely a unique one. **1/2.

I think watching paint dry would have been more exciting
oliver_owen6 December 2023
Honestly the title says it all, yes you can have a good cast but if the writing is terrible it's all downhill from there.

I mean did we need this episode no! It felt really forced like the writers just went well we completed Rick's arc let's just chuck a load of random things together, the writers have completely lost it if even this episode was written by people.

Next was the pacing it was all too quick there was no down time events just happened and then were forgotten or just skipped over, this whole episodes downfall was dialogue it felt like it both didn't have enough and also had too much, like the numbers jokes it felt like if they just chuck one in every minute AND DIDN'T STOP like seriously you can put in a couple but after the hundredth one just stop.

entertaining, intelligent, nuanced, interesting
Shadowstripe6 December 2023
This episode was none of the above, I disliked this enough to dust off my IMDB account after years to come here to talk about how much I disliked it !

Sins this episode commits for no reason ..

lack of rick, I think it can make sense in a story way "rick has been captured so this episode has no rick" but even in the old format we would have a cut away B plot to captured or holiday rick! Or whatever, no, not every episode has to have a B plot but there is no reason for no rick here in a show called rick and morty?

Bringing back pointless characters, there are loads of characters they could have visited that would be more interesting than Ice-T which was an unfunny pun at best that didn't really deserve anymore screen time, we could have had a Gearhead, bird-person, Zeep Xanflorp or even Jerry headrick episode? Instead we are stuck watching this, because characters with unfunny pun names that are made out of letters " lol " I guess?

The story is pointless and boring, and no a story dosn't always have to go somewhere or be part of a bigger arc but it at least has to be interesting, I just can't explain how uninvested I was in the letter people, their entire race could have been wiped out and I would not have cared.

Some episodes have you glued to your seat, feel like they end way too soon, this one had me checking the clock, I saw someone saying it this could have been written by AI but I think AI would probably write better than this.

This one was called in and I really hope they don't do more like it.

I've read IMDB reviews for years, and finally created an account just to review this specific episode.
catsrewarder5 December 2023
I submit this review out of the maybe ever so slight slim odds an Adult Swim producer just happens to reads this: I genuinely believe if more episodes made are similar to this quality of writing, the ratings and view count of the show will drastically go down. The episode comes across heavily like this was written by an AI that was shown dated Reddit posts. I was genuinely surprised there was restraint to not make a 69 or 420 joke with the number characters.

Also I'm sure we've all noticed this is currently the lowest rated episode on IMDB and it just happens to not have Rick in it. I don't believe its bad because Rick isn't in it, I'm sure someone could actually do a funny or interesting episode without Rick being in it, the main problem was that it was just poorly written. I'm putting a 1 star review not because "It's the worst thing ever" but out of fear that future Rick and Morty episodes could end up being like this episode. Rest of the season has been great though!

Couldn't go down hill anymore than this
shujainayat-851024 December 2023
Clearly the writing team is not what it used to be, this episode was useless, gibberish, and generic. Nothing like the initial seasons which were innovative, new and refreshing. The show is called Rick and Morty and the focus should be Rick and Morty, spinoffs are usually unwelcomed and the writing department should focus on Rick and Morty as it is their chemistry that is important and Makes the show what it is, and also the writing department should focus on writing better to be more innovative, and focus on new and awesome plots for Rick and Morty, it shouldn't be always sci-fi they could move to horror comedy, they can move back in time, they can go to the Viking age, they can use the Norse mythology, the Greek mythology. What I mean is that they should broaden their scope and should focus on Rick and Morty as such generic and dull episodes are waste of our time as well as their time and it is damaging The shows reputation.

Not one of their better ones...
Explorermike4 December 2023
Not one of the betters ones. Not just due to the lack of Rick, but the themes and jokes made it seems like the script wasn't given the usual amount of re-works(effort) to make them shine more like most R&M episodes. It felt more like the Mr. Poopybutthole episode at the beginning of this current season.

Not terrible, still enjoyed it, but was able to begin drifting off to sleep and still follow it which is not something that can usually happens while watching this show.

If you want to get someone into this show and for some reason you aren't starting at the beginning, I wouldn't start them with this one. No siree, I don't like it. -Mr Horse lol.

By far the worst
anobbzy-249416 December 2023
I have never once felt the need to rate a rick and morty as they all good and im too lazy to be writing good reviews, even with the introduction of the new voice actors for this season so far the episodes have been watchable, but this episode "rise of the numbericons" by far is the worst, not just worst rick and morty but worst adult animation episode of all time. My brother suggested I don't watch I didn't listen, don't be me, Avoid this episode at all costs. Also who's great idea was it to leave the best character out of the episode. Let's hope the writers redeem themselves on the next episode.

Not the best but still entertaining
thomassaunter11 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I agree this is not A* material but certainly isn't 1/10

The episode is an interesting continuation and dumb fun. I didn't mind the spin off episode and enjoyed the exploration of an old post credit scene, reminds me of interdimensional cable or mindblowers.

The puns weren't cheap laughs but ones I enjoyed as they felt obviously forced. Peter Serafinowicz is always great and Ice T as Magma Q is still funny.

There's still a lot of easter eggs that tie this to the rest of the Rick and Morty universe so enjoyed spotting those as well.

Still would rather watch this than many other shows so I would take all the 1* reviews with a pinch of salt.

What did i watch?
olcare6 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I watched Rick and Morty last unbelievable episode, thinking about how it could become even more boring in the latest episode, but to my surprise, it turned out to be not just boring but a downright disastrous episode.

Ironically, it was written with the intention of being very funny, yet I believe it's by far the worst episode in the history of Rick and Morty.

Out of 8 episodes, only 2 were genuinely good; the majority were mediocre, and this episode has done something so absurd that it's beyond criticism.

I pondered which audience segment in the USA they were targeting, and I feel there isn't one. These rapper jokes are just out of place, seriously. They have no connection to the essence of the show, providing no amusement, laughter, or even distraction. It's like messing up the show by trying too hard to parody, and it doesn't work.

I don't know what should change, but I don't think it's an issue with the voice actors; I believe the problem lies with the writing team. I can't find any other explanation.

Not as bad as people are saying
derrickjcyprian24 December 2023
I had to write a review to combat all these bad ones.

I don't understand all the hate for this guy episode. I thought it was a funny follow up to one of their classic episodes from the earlier seasons. Obviously it's not one of the best ones but it had some nice elements in it that were entertaining. It really rewarded the older fans with multiple callbacks and inside jokes.

I feel like all the scrutiny this one was getting is just ppl expecting the old Rick and morty and them going on adventures every time. I like the world building they're trying to do, basing it from side characters. Gotta let the writers do their thing in order to keep things fresh or they'll never be any satisfaction.

A fun departure
dredgman7 March 2024
I was worried that this would be bad given all the low ratings, but actually this episode is a lot of fun. It's just silly. Don't take things so seriously. There are so many goofy puns. Rick isn't in this, but that's OK, too.

I was worried it might be an overly dramatic episode like how Solar Opposites does it, but I was relieved to see how irreverent this was.

And yes, this season may have started off a bit rough, but I think it's been improving more or less steadily.

Again, don't overthink it. Just enjoy the throwaway plot around number and letter puns. Ice-T even joins in to poke fun at himself.

Couldn't finish it
tenshinhan_san8 December 2023
Never have I not bothered to finished an episode of Rick and Morty in the years I've been watching, from the beginning, until now.

You can actually feel the decline in quality over the past couple of seasons but this episode makes me worry, this show has still got so much potential but not with episodes like this. They need quality in the writers room not garbage fan fiction, which this felt like.

They took an end credits gag that was only slightly amusing because of how stupid it was and made a whole episode about it, with the least interesting characters, f knows what they were thinking with this. The episodes are only around 20 something minutes but this bs struggles to hold your attention for 20 something seconds.

I really hope the last episodes save this season, they need to be sublime to make up for this disaster of an episode.

Super lame
zwxspg6 December 2023
I didn't smile even once. Was it supposed to be funny? It wasn't. Was it supposed to be metaphorical? I'm either dumb, or this was just the worst episode I've seen in a while. And I love this show. I mean used to love it. Get Justin back, because this new team is not cutting it.

It feels like it's written by someone who doesn't get the show at all. But the worst crime of all is just lack of anything remotely funny. Not to mention the feel of the original show, the dark jokes etc, it's all gone, but it feels so forced and lame... idk just stop the show at this point, better than pushing garbage like this.

What the hell was this?
cagataycomlekci9 December 2023
I am a huge fan of Rick and Morty and absolutely disagree with people saying the show has been ruined. Seasons 6 and 7 have both had lots of fantastic episodes that make the show still worth watching weekly in my eyes. This wasn't one of them.

There's no Rick, Morty is a background character, the pacing absolutely sucks, the constant puns are repetitive and unfunny, the characters are uninteresting and lots of things just sorta happen for no reason. I don't understand why this show has been so obsessed with making old and unimportant characters like Mr. PBH and Water T the main characters of entire episodes recently but they just can't seem to make it work. This entire episode relies on puns, complete randomness and nothing else, almost none of that clever writing we've come to expect from Rick and Morty is present here.

I REALLY want to be able to tell people that season 7 is a good season overall and not just season 5 all over again so I hope they'll stick the landing with last two episodes.
