- Seth Newman's body is found. The FBI is investigating his death. Annie manages to be part of the FBI team so she can prevent them from finding out her involvement. Henry knows Annie is involved but still makes her an offer to join his team.—Anonymous
- FBI Agent Vincent Rossabi is officially in charge of investigating Seth Newman's death and holds justified grudges against secretive CIA and its liaison officer, Annie, who desperately needs Augie to hack her DNA evidence away. Henry is setting up a private intelligence company and recruiting federal agents. Annie is offered a way out if she joins, or threatened with far worse if she doesn't.—KGF Vissers
- It's pouring in DC when Joan, Annie and Auggie meet secretively to discuss how to get out of the Seth Newman mess. With the FBI handling the case, they've already lost control, and they can't take it to DCI because they don't yet have proof that Seth was a mole working for Henry Wilcox.
Joan suggests she cry national security to attempt to get at the FBI's evidence, hopefully including a flash drive Annie saw on Seth. But they have to do it without alerting Calder Michaels, who they now assume is working with Henry.
Joan can put Annie into the investigation as the CIA liaison, but she's on her own getting the flash drive.
Annie reports to FBI HQ to begin work on the case and runs into her old frenemy Agent Vincent Rossabi. He's not in a friendly mood and thinks if she's there, there must be more to the case. He's not going anywhere.
He takes her down to the morgue and shows her Seth's body. Signs of a struggle mean they're investigating it as a homicide. She asks about personal effects, but a flash drive isn't among them. Then Rossabi drops the bombshell: there was skin under his fingernails. It's already been sent to the lab.
Annie calls Auggie with the bad news. He tells her not to panic, thinking they have a few weeks until the results come back.
Calder visit Joan, irked that she appointed Annie liaison, which he says should have been his call. He insinuates Joan's judgment is clouded on the issue based on her past relationship with Seth, which isn't a secret.
In the car, Rossabi tells Annie that using water flow charts and calculating the height from which Seth fell, they were able to back track where he died. He drives her to the bridge where Seth died, which is crawling with forensic teams.
She remembers Seth going over the side and trying to grab for him as he fell.
Rossabi shows Annie a drop of blood on the cement railing, which he thinks is from the victim. Rossabi gets a call.
They head to Seth's apartment, which doesn't have a single fingerprint, not even Seth's. Rossabi is suspicious. Rossabi asks for the DNA results to be fast tracked.
Outside a tech brings him Seth's jacket, which was fished out of the river. The flash drive was in the pocket. Annie watches as it's taken away to FBI evidence.
Later that night at Auggie's, Annie is angry at how clean the apartment was -- not Joan's doing. Henry sent someone in after to sterilize it, which looks completely suspicious. Annie finds a hard drive to match Seth's and Auggie puts some files on it then soaks it in Potomac river water. She tells him the bad news, that they only have 48 hours.
Auggie gets started trying to hack into the FBI servers to alter the results.
Annie gets a call from Henry Wilcox.
She meets him at the headquarters of soon-to-be Lexington Global Consulting and Risk Management, his new endeavor to train elite spies. He invites Annie to join him. When she declines, he tells her she's already done work for Lexington, in Colombia. He gives her a check.
He asks her to get the flash drive, but won't tell her why.
Annie brings evidence to be entered into the FBI evidence room, but an agent offers to do it for her. She insists on going with her to watch, then fakes a phone call to get the other agent out of the room. She's about to make the flash drive switch when Rossabi finds her. She takes the drive out to confiscate it, but Rossabi takes it back and says he's taking it to Calder Michaels personally, at Calder's request.
At Langley, Rossabi overdoes his appreciation for Calder's offer of cooperation, to make a point to Annie. When Joan joins them, he mentions pointedly that she's been dodging his calls and Calder takes note. Rossabi has a few questions for Joan for his investigation and puts Joan on the spot, asking Calder and Annie to sit in.
They checked Seth's car's GPS and Rossabi asks why he was at Joan's house three weeks ago. She tells him about their canceled dinner plans. Then Rossabi brings up them both being in Narcotics Anonymous, which is news to Annie.
Joan says Seth was doing well with recovery and Annie ends the interview.
Later, Auggie worries about Calder having the flash drive -- but Annie gives him the real thing, obtained with sleight of hand.
That night at home, Auggie tries to hack the drive, but it's incredibly complex and slow. So far all he has is a corner of a picture, which looks likes a jungle somewhere. Annie gets anxious about the DNA results.
She wonders if she should take Henry's money to pretend to work for him. Auggie's against it.
Annie suggests they pull Henry's car GPS to see if they can prove he met up with Seth. To get him away from his car Annie calls Rossabi with phone records and points out Henry's name.
That night at Henry's new HQ, Annie tells Henry that tech ops has his flash drive. She "warns" him that he's going to be called in for questioning. He doesn't buy it.
"You're here out of self interest, scared I'll turn you over to the FBI. Don't worry, your secret is safe with me," he tells her.
The next day, Annie watches Henry park his car on a surface street outside the FBI HQ. She calls Auggie. Barber and another guy pull up and tow Henry's car to get at the GPS.
Inside, Annie and Henry pretend not to know each other for Rossabi's benefit. Henry says Seth gave him legal advice. Seth's last call was to Henry. "I don't think he expected it to be his last," Henry says.
Annie pulls Rossabi into the hall to try to get him to press Henry more, stalling for time. Rossabi doesn't bite.
Auggie doesn't have Henry's car back in place as Henry is leaving the building, but it's waiting for him when he gets back outside.
After Henry leaves, Rossabi accuses Annie of stalling. But before he can press her more, he gets word someone just used one of Seth's credit cards to buy pizza.
They drive to Marlon Higgins address. Rossabi finds it weird it took him three weeks to use the card. When they reach the apartment, Marlon Higgins sees them and runs. They search his apartment. He runs into Rossabi and tackles Annie. He gets a gun and Annie dives for cover as he shoots.
Rossabi tackles him and the force of the hit propels both men out a window and off the second story onto a parked car below.
Rossabi lands on top of Higgins. Annie watches with a mixture of shock and relief as Rossabi rolls over, alive.
After he is patched up, he insists to Annie that there's no way the junkie he just landed on top of was responsible for Seth's death and clean-up. Annie insists it fits. He thinks the CIA is behind it and is waiting for the DNA results to confirm it.
Back at Langley, Auggie wasn't able to hack the FBI to change the results. Nothing in Henry's car's GPS matched Seth's, but Auggie found a dozen trips to parkland in Virginia.
Annie and Auggie head out there. Annie ignores Rossabi's call. He leaves her a message telling her he found her number in Henry's phone records. Rossabi visits Lexington HQ.
He accuses Henry of colluding with Annie. "I hear you're a man of honor, Vince. May I call you Vince?" Henry says. "No." "Have a seat, Vince. We have a lot to talk about."
Joan calls Calder on the carpet for going against her orders and interfering with the investigation. She knows he's the only way Rossabi could have known about her being in NA.
"Dig too deep in this building, Mr. Michaels, and you're only going to bury yourself," she says.
He mentions her saying Annie had a great relationship with the FBI and Rossabi saying otherwise. "You're choosing sides, Joan. I hope you choose wisely," he says.
Annie and Auggie arrive at a wooded meadow with a river. There's nothing there. But Annie sees an old Camp Hillcrest sign, where Henry took Jai as a boy. She thinks he was paying his respects.
Rossabi calls for the fifth time in 20 minutes. Annie assumes the results are in.
She visits Rossabi at the FBI. He tells her the skin under Seth's nails matched Marlon Higgins. He was a dealer, Seth was a junkie, it adds up just like she said it would. He mentions her friends in low places, disgusted with her and himself.
Annie visits Lexington and storms into Henry's office. He convinced Rossabi to change the results and says he's surprised Auggie didn't fix them for her.
Henry used Rossabi's alcoholic past against him.
"Any person can be influenced, turned completely, by the contents of a single piece of paper. The only trick is finding the right piece of paper," he says. Annie is upset, calling Rossabi a good man.
"Is that what this is about, getting me in to trouble so only you can save me?" "You needed to see what I'm capable of," he says. She asks why he's dragging her down with him. He gives her one last chance, which she turns down. She tells him whatever he's doing won't bring Jai back. She has the flash drive and is going to take him down.
He tells her to ask Auggie about his ex, Helen Hansen, who is supposedly dead. He suggests she's not and that Auggie has spoken to her recently.
"You've chosen the wrong side Ms. Walker, now you're going to burn with them," he says.
