NBCUniversal Launch, the company’s diversity, equity and inclusion home for entertainment television, unveiled its inaugural Unscripted Pitch Accelerator program.
The Unscripted Pitch Accelerator comes a year after NBCUniversal launched The Unscripted Producers Program initiative. Similarly, this aims provide independent creators and producers with an opportunity to pitch their concepts for unscripted series to NBCUniversal television executives. To expand the consideration pool to find the best ideas, independent producers do not need representation or a relationship with an established production company or studio to submit their concepts. Its goal is to find the next hit unscripted franchises for the company’s entertainment television platforms, including Peacock, NBC, Bravo, E!, Oxygen True Crime and USA Network.
Creators are encouraged to submit pitches spanning various genres and formats, including shiny-floor/in-studio formats, competition formats, social experiments, dating/relationship formats, game shows, character-led docu-soaps, occu-soaps, lifestyle formats, true-crime series and premium documentary series.

In its first five days on the platform, “The Traitors” Season 2 has become the most-watched reality series debut on Peacock. The streaming reach is up more than 75% from Season 1, which took home the Emmy Award this year for Outstanding Casting for a Reality Program.
The first three episodes of the second season, hosted by Alan Cumming, debuted on Jan. 12. Not only did the number of viewers surpass the premiere of the first season, it also topped the platform’s other reality titles, including “The Real Housewives Ultimate Girls Trip,” “Love Island USA,” “Love Island Games” and “Queens Court.”
In the Studio Lambert series, set in an ancient castle in the Scottish Highlands, contestants work together on a series of missions to win up to $250,000. The “Faithful” cast members have one goal — identify the “Traitors” hidden among them, who are trying to steal the prize money at the end for themselves.

The first trailer for Love Island Games held back a key piece of information about the show’s format, but it did tease appearances from some particularly polarizing veteran islanders, including Love Island USA Season 3’s Cely Vazquez and her ex Johnny Middlebrooks, whose on-again off-again relationship stirred up a lot of drama both in and out of the villa. It also hinted at a more action-based competition approach, like MTV’s The Challenge, with host Maya Jama stating that the challenges would “determine everything,” including which couple would win and take home the $100,000 cash prize.

When Squid Game burst onto the scene in 2021, it became Netflix's biggest show -- ever.
It beat the likes of Stranger Things and Bridgerton -- shows heavily ingrained in pop culture.
The streamer would inevitably find a way to capitalize on that success.
Enter Squid Game: The Challenge, a competition series that takes the format (minus the killing!) to feature 456 people from all walks of life competing for 4.56 million dollars.
It's been a pleasant surprise through eight episodes, and it really is like watching a real-life version of the scripted series.
While it's been a blast watching the cutthroat nature of the gameplay, it's becoming increasingly apparent that the format doesn't allow for much context.
Cramming 456 players into a nine-hour season means that many people disappear for episodes at a time, and many don't even appear until the later episodes.

With 22 international iterations of “Love Island” taking the lead from the franchise’s U.K. flagship series, “Love Island USA” producer ITV Entertainment aimed to harness the property’s crossover potential among American audiences in its newest spin-off, “Love Island Games.”

Peacock has renewed Love Island USA for two additional seasons.
The show — which the streamer says is its No. 1 original reality series — follows a group of singles searching for love in a villa, but throughout their stay in a tropical oasis, Islanders face challenges, surprises, “bombshells” and more twists and turns.
Following the finale of Love Island USA‘s season five, which aired this past summer, the show’s executive producer Simon Thomas told The Hollywood Reporter that the goal is for the Islanders and the audience to “feel like the best summer vacation of all time” with “a little bit of drama along the way.”
When asked what he’d learned from season five that he would possibly change for future seasons, Thomas said at the time, “I would imagine that there will be things next year that you will see, which will surprise you, much like there were this year,...

“Love Island Games” is already bringing the heat to the villa, as the Peacock spin-off welcomes two new bombshells to the competition: “Love Island U.K.” alum Megan Barton Hanson and “Love Island U.S.A.” alum Johnny Middlebrooks.
Upon entering the villa at the end of Wednesday’s series premiere, “Love Island Games” host Maya Jama informed Barton Hanson and Middlebrooks they could choose to kiss two islanders of their choice. Middlebrooks immediately shook things up by choosing to kiss his ex, Cely Vazquez, and Imani Wheeler, both of whom appeared on “Love Island U.S.A.”
The catch is, however, that the islanders were blindfolded while the bombshells made their choices, leaving those who were picked for a smooch in the dark about the identity of the bombshell.
In an exclusive clip shared with TheWrap, Jama breaks downs the consequences of the bombshells’ decisions, which leaves Ray, who is coupled up with Wheeler,...

While “Love Island U.K.” host Maya Jama’s entrance to the dating show’s villa has come to signify an ominous elimination or a shakeup to vulnerable islanders, she’s getting a front seat to all the laughs and drama hosting Peacock spin-off “Love Island Games.” She couldn’t be more thrilled.
“I always feel a bit like, ‘Oh, I want to go in [to the villa], hug you, have a laugh with you and just have a bit of banter,’ but most of the time when I go in it’s a serious poker face — someone’s going home,” Jama told TheWrap. “It was really nice for me that I could … be a bit of a hype man at points and have a laugh with them.”

The official trailer for “Love Island Games” is finally here, and we can’t wait to see the cheeky challenges and deception stirred up by the Peacock spin-off series.
“For the first time ever, we’re bringing together an international all-star cast of ex-islanders ready for some healthy competition and a second chance at love,” host Maya Jama said in the trailer. “Things are gonna be very different this time around. The challenges will determine everything, and ultimately which couple gets $100,000.”
Bringing together U.S., U.K. and Australian islanders across the “Love Island” franchise to a Fiji villa, the new format mixes dating and games as ex-islanders pair up and compete to become the champions of the “Love Island Games.” With the sizable prize fund on the line, the contestants’ motives for coupling up for challenges might differ.
