Nice short film with very strong message!

I had the opportunity to see the film at its premier in Accra in May and think it was just wonderful, because this will be the first big step of a long journey. Since I met a few children who were human trafficking victims near Kumasi, I have never forgotten their words and faces. These are all similar stories and I have been thinking about the children from Lake Volta all the time. I was really happy to see that there are some people who are working on that problem. The film is very emotional and has a strong message and the power make a change. The cinematography is excellent and since I have seen the sad reality in Ghana with my own eyes, the film captured me within the blink of an eye. I don't know James Kofi Annan personally but think he is a role model for our generation. This film should get all the attention it deserves. Thank you for your great work!

I guess he deserves better

Warning: Spoilers
I have to admit I am not familiar at all with James Kofi Annan (not to be mistaken for the same guy without the "James"), but according to this 18-minute movie, he is one of the leading children rights activists from Africa right now. So this is certainly an interesting and important topic. Unfortunately, the execution does not do the character justice. The first over 10 minutes of this film basically take us back into the character's youth, but I found this section really uninteresting. Afterward, we see a maximum of 4 minutes where we see the real James Kofi Annan and one of his trophies, which was not exactly great filmmaking either. And then the credits roll in who run pretty much a third of the entire film. A pretty amateurish effort all in all and this is quite a shame as it could have been so much better with this relevant subject. Maybe writer and director Steven Keen should have cut out the entire first half and made this a 100% documentary movie with actual interviews of the protagonist. This way here, it did not work at all in my opinion. Not recommended.

A must see!

Warning: Spoilers
It is estimated that more than 24,000 children in Ghana fall victim to severe forms of child labor annually. These child slaves are being trafficked from within Ghana and its surrounding countries and forced to work in Ghana's brutal and dangerous fishing industry.

Critically acclaimed and visually stunning, Fisher of Kids portrays the triumphant life of James Kofi Annan. After escaping slavery in the Ghanaian fishing industry at age 7, James Kofi Annan went on to become a successful manager at Barclays Bank of Ghana before devoting his life to campaigning for child rights in Ghana through the work of his NGO 'Challenging Heights'. Today, he is considered one of the leading anti-child slavery activists of our time. A must see!

A film that stayed with me

I have to say I was totally blown away by this beautiful work. Fabulous imagery / cinematography - very gripping yet simple real life story line - up beat celebration at the end - all in all a wonderfully compelling film that stayed with me for several days afterwards (and still is...).

Child slavery, child labor and human trafficking are a blight on humanity, and I appreciate any efforts to shine a light on the problem, especially in my home country, Ghana.

I am privileged to have seen this film, to have had the opportunity to meet the film crew in Accra and totally delighted to see my name on the credits - thank you so much for this! I've never had that before and it means a lot to me. I'm very proud to be associated with such an incredible and inspirational film!
