Sadly, this isn’t news about “The Seduction Of Ingmar Bergman,” a still-gestating musical from Guy Maddin with the music of theatrical ‘70s rockers Sparks. But hey, a project called “Seducing Ingmar Bergman” with Jessica Chastain is a pretty good runner-up.
The two-time Academy Award nominee and current Cannes Jury member will star and produce “Seducing Ingmar Bergman’ through her Freckle Films shingle.

Jessica Chastain is set to throw herself into the role of a Hollywood legend, with Deadline reporting that the Zero Dark Thirty star will play the title role in Seducing Ingrid Bergman. The film—based on a 2012 historical novel by Chris Greenhalgh, which fictionalized the viewpoints of its two leads—tracks the extramarital romantic entanglements between the Casablanca actress and photographer Robert Capa, which began in Paris in the aftermath of World War II, and continued when they both returned to the States in the era of the McCarthy Communism witch hunts.
(Not to go off on too much of a tangent, but Capa is a pretty fascinating figure in his own right; he grew up in Europe, departing Hungary, and then Germany, as the rise of fascism spread. As a combat photographer, he threw himself into situations of almost unimaginable danger; most notably, he was the only press ...

After witnessing the game-changing superhero movie Deadpool last year, it felt like a film that could have implications on the genre it sits within. Now, a year on, we have yet another R-Rated production in Logan – and James Mangold spoke to HeyUGuys about the impact the Ryan Reynolds feature has had in the comic book universe.
“It made it a little easier,” he explained. “We had written this movie before Deadpool came out, but I think the studio bolstered their confidence that there’s a way to market movies like this successfully.”
The film – which has garnered an impressive reaction from critics so far, including our very own Jon Lyus who gave the film 4 stars – takes a far more mature, bleaker approach to what we’re used to, and Mangold explains the film has been made for the fans of the franchise that have grown up with these characters,...

James Mangold is a director with a slightly odd CV, and now he’ll be throwing yet another 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea film into the mix. It isn’t even the only one headed your way right now, as Bryan Singer recently took the helm for 20th Century Fox‘ version, which will stick with the classic title.
Mangold’s Disney version is Captain Nemo, and apparently focuses more on the character than the story we’re all familiar with. Apparently it’s something of an origin story. Perhaps the two films in development will play well back-to-back.
I suppose great minds think alike, but the need for a remake seems questionable, even if Singer is fantastically excited about the project.
On the other hand, if the Disney version is actually a departure from the story, at least we may be in for something new. In fact, there...

Though he’s currently preoccupied giving Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine an appropriate swan song as the actor prepares to hang up his adamantium claws, James Mangold is already eyeing a very different kind of project. Deadline reports that the versatile helmer will tackle an adaptation of Chris Greenhalgh’s Seducing Ingrid Bergman, possibly to be titled Blood and Champagne, about the heated love affair between actress Bergman and war photographer Robert Capa.
Set in 1945 in post-wwii Paris, the pic will focus on a pivotal time in the Casablanca actress’ life; she would subsequently become a tabloid sensation after launching into an affair with director Roberto Rossellini.
Arash Amel (Grace of Monaco) wrote the script for the historical romance and will also produce.

James Mangold is a director who likes to hop among genres: he’s tackled dramas of all stripes, Westerns, biopics and the superheroic likes of The Wolverine. He’s blending a couple of those for a potential future project, lining up an adaptation of Chris Greenhalgh’s book Seducing Ingrid Bergman.Arash Amel has written the script for the embryonic film, which chronicles the passionate, secretive romance between the iconic actress and noted war photographer Robert Capa in post-World War II Paris, just before the Cold War kicked in. The script has been floating around since at least 2013, and follows the period where Bergman’s image began to shift from her wholesome earlier days to being denounced by the Us Senate for loose morals (truly something of an ironic juxtaposition, there.) According to Deadline, Mangold has wanted to call the eventual film Blood And Champagne, but he may not get his wish,...

He feels that it is a very moving story of a woman which also delivers a message that goes deeper than the life of just one woman.
