SXSW Regular Geoff Marslett (Monkey Vs Robot, Mars, Loves Her Gun) is crowdfunding his latest film 'The Day Before Wedding", a film that starts out like your usual indie mumblecore and escalates into something shockingly different. You can visit the Indiegogo page here for more information. Every dollar helps!
"The Day Before The Wedding is director Geoff Marslett's first thriller. It is a short film set in and shot on location in and around Denver, Colorado. Geoff recently relocated from Austin, Texas, to Colorado with hopes of bringing his experience making localized independent films here to a new and exciting artistic community.
The film stars Marslett along with Frank Mosley (Upstream Color, Ain't Them Bodies Saints), Jennifer Prediger (A Teacher, Apartment Troubles, Uncle Kent) and Kira Pearson (The Greggs). The film itself is a comedic horror set in the woods of Colorado. It is a surreal look at the...

It's always great to see films from female directors, which are too few and far between. "Apartment Troubles" features double the bang for your buck, with Jennifer Prediger ("A Teacher") and Jess Weixler ("Teeth") sharing co-screenwriting and co-directing duties on the quirky road movie. The story follows two roommates after they get evicted from their NYC apartment and head west seeking better fortunes. Megan Mullaly, Jeffrey Tambor, and Will Forte offer supporting turns, which is quite the trio of comedy heavyweights. The film made it's debut at the La Film Fest last year under the title of "Trouble Dolls," and our review noted that "beneath the playful narrative and broad comic strokes, the duo manages to capture something tender about confusion and personal growth seen at different stages in life." In the exclusive clip below, you can see a bit of the dark and offbeat humor, as the plucky protagonists hitch a.

Some of the most arresting moments in "Trouble Dolls" feature cats. One of them is a house pet named Seagull who dies 10 minutes into the movie. The other, hairless and curiously expressive, is the kind of creature the ancient Egyptians would have rescued first during a fire. The strange contours of its nimble frame stand out even more than they usually would, as it's being held by a woman in desperate need of a friend, its appearance serving as the culmination of an unexpectedly moving scene. Co-writers/directors/stars Jennifer Prediger and Jess Weixler's film is bookended by shots of these two felines, the entire plot branching out of Seagull's untimely passing and leading toward the unnamed other's appearance. Prediger and Weixler play Olivia and Nicole, respectively, two roommates who briefly say goodbye to all that and flee New York for a few days in L.A. This comes after their landlord,...

Living as jobless roommates in New York is tough.
And this movie “Trouble Dolls” looks at hilarious odd best friends trying to make things work after their landlord evicted them out of their own apartment.
The film is acted and directed by Jennifer Prediger and Jess Weixler. Other cast members also include Will Forte, Megan Mullally and Jeffrey Tambor.
Here’s the synopsis:
Olivia and Nicole are codependent roommates who are definitely going to make it; They're just not sure how. When they get evicted from their shoebox apartment in Manhattan--conceptual art just doesn't cover the rent--they boldly take off to L.A. and the promise of sunshine. As one door slams shut, another opens--a tarot card reading later, the duo decide to take their performance art sensibilities to the mainstream by auditioning for a reality TV talent show.

A general rule of thumb: if Jeffrey Tambor appears in one or two scenes out of a film, it’s a safe bet those are the best one or two scenes overall. As a trespassing landlord fond of tenant hookups and unannounced showers in their homes, Tambor all but runs away with “Trouble Dolls,” the writing and directorial debut of Jess Weixler (“Teeth”) and Jennifer Prediger (“A Teacher”), but his scenes prove damaging—they bookend the film, leaving 80 minutes of fitfully wry and unusual humor in between. The reason for Tambor’s brief part is due to his role as instigator. He lays out an ultimatum for the film’s central twentysomething roomies, Olivia and Nicole (Prediger and Weixler) to pay their substantial backlog of rent, or lose their NYC apartment. Not that the place has much value left anyway: jars of Olivia’s natural remedies spill all over not Nicole’s unfinished art projects,...

Jess Weixler and Jennifer Prediger co-directed "Trouble Dolls" together. It was their first foray behind the camera. Previously they had acted in various television shows and films. Their film tells the story of two codependent New York roommates who move to Los Angeles after being kicked out of their apartment, and the tests their friendship faces as they seek fame and fortune. It premieres on the 15th of June. [Editor's Note: Indiewire reached out to filmmakers with films playing at the 20th La Film Festival (June 11-19) to ask them about how they shot their indie, and what advice they had for other filmmakers. We'll be posting their responses throughout the run of the festival. Go Here for the master list.] What camera and lens did you use? We used a "Panavised" Alexa thanks to the wonderful folks at Panavision NY who let us use Primo prime lenses. Underwater work was done on a 7D with canon L series lenses. Steve Carell and Jennifer Garner, you’re on notice: two experienced scene-stealers have been added to the cast of Alexander And The Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day in the shape of Megan Mullally and Jennifer Coolidge. The film, which Miguel Arteta is busy directing in La, follows the comic misadventures of poor Alexander (Ed Oxenbould, a newcomer selected after a big casting sweep), who wakes up one morning with gum stuck in his hair – and the day goes downhill from there. Carell and Garner are playing his parents, but the Hollywood Reporter’s story doesn’t mention who Coolidge and Mullally will play.Rob Lieber adapted the script from Judith Viorst’s 1972 children’s book, which means this comes with a built-in audience of moviegoers Stateside who remember it fondly and are ready to judge the cinematic version with laser-like intensity. No pressure, there…Mullally is currently on...
