Great season premiere, but didn't pick up where left off
Trivioid21 January 2024
I enjoyed the season premiere, but I really wanted to see how Olivia and Elliott dealt with being on the hit list. I hope that will be addressed soon in the season.

Watching "Hal" try to flee over the fence brought some comic relief, in spite of his creepiness.

I also got a laugh out the parents of the missing Maddie, who said they left San Francisco to escape the crime there. Really??? So they move to NYC instead?

Finally, Churlish appears to have gone the way of Chuck Cunningham; she wasn't in the episode and wasn't even mentioned. Is she gone for good? I know her character wasn't popular with many viewers, but I felt her character needed to be developed more.

In all, a pretty good episode.

Ben Seaver on Growing Pains: what a coinky-dink!
lurch39421 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
After young Nicholas Carisi is baptized and the squad makes a half-hearted toast to the late John Munch, Liv just happens to see a kidnap victim who isn't in distress? Deus ex machina, anyone? After Chief McGrath orders her not to, Benson tells the distraught mother of the girl that there's a witness (her, of course).

When is Bruno going to be added to the cast? I would accept Churlish, too, though she's too much of a goody-two-shoes. Is Dick Wolf trying to save money, or he angling to add blonde Sloane from Bergen County? I agree with the earlier reviewer: she is not necessary.

On the whole, the canonization of St. Olivia continues space. This should be the last season: promote her, retire her, have her marry Stabler: just give Captain Benson a decent send-off. The reruns will live on. (Don't give Fin the squad: he was a reluctant sergeant.)

Interesting Premiere Episode for SVU 25
loompster21 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
I thought this was an interesting first episode of the show's landmark 25th season. I think the plot and case could've been expanded a little bit better, but I enjoyed most of the episode. I thought the Munch reference was cool, but I felt like Rollins should've been part of that toast rather than Carisi because she actually worked with Munch and Carisi never interacted with him (on-screen at least).

I'm from California and the crime in SF is true, but if you want to move away from that, then go to Oklahoma or somewhere more safer than New York, because the crime in New York is obviously more bad.

Still, I hope the next episode will solve the case of where Maggie (or was it Maddie?) is. I also believe it would be better for Benson to reflect on the situation that she and Stabler went through in the SVU/OC season finale. Maybe that can happen when Stabler makes his regular guest appearances throughout the season.

Overall, I think the episode is 7.9/10, I selected 8 stars since it's the closest to what I believe the episode is worth. Not all that good, but definitely not bad. SVU has had far more superior season premiere episodes though.

Really Solid Start to Season 25
whoneedsascreenname20 January 2024
There was lots of hype going in, this being the landmark 25th season and all. Plus the Law and Orders were among the first shows back with new episodes after the long Hollywood strikes, and fans were restless.

The episode -- about a missing teen unwittingly enmeshed in the perverse desires of a creepy nerd-crowd -- delivered on lots of levels, including discussion about Olivia's fabled compass, a gift from Stabler in last year's OC's finale.

Show did a time jump, hewing close to real life and opening with the Baptism of the new Rollisi baby, now acknowledged to be 6 months old.

Love seeing Rollins back, even if it will only be as a guest star for now and Hargitay sure looks great after whatever transformation she went under during the last couple of years. More power to her.

Kevin Kane as Bruno continues to be fantastic, though praying Benson does not take in that stray cop from Bergen County. She's not needed. The squad is great the way it is!

What the hey
lunaluv3-569-44527619 January 2024
As awesome as this episode was, what the hey??? No continuation? Unsure of what is going on with Liv; we all thought this episode was gonna be to be continued. So is Liv gonna retire this season? Isn't she kinda at the pinnacle of her game? Perhaps Fin will replace her and she will be used as a consult? We have so many questions and no answers.

It was a riveting episode and it left us kinda co died but maybe they will come back to it in a later episode ? Please Dick Wolf shed some light as we love when u leave us hanging but not like this LOL we need answers and wanna know what happened to Maddie.

Just No Ending Sadly
shelbythuylinh31 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
25th Season as it is a record but now that it is that come to think of it, that in the really glad that Stabler is no more. But that really in order for him to leave had he not left, Benson wouldn't had been possibly be a Captain and in the getting promotions here. He could had in the stymie in on it.

Like one reviewer said that in the Carisi and Rollins are decreasing due to the cop turned ADA and Rollins is a professor with the actress being let go. Still Valasco is a better cop and a person. No offense to Grace Muncy fans as really she was just too much hotheaded and over the top.

Just hope the season gets better. As no end over in where a girl went missing and her parents are either divorced or separated as the father has some questionable ethics going on with him that not even his former or estranged wife knows about.

One girl is found but now the one in the COTW is still missing.

Poor start for S25
ChazCone20 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
I'm a huge fan of SVU all the way back to S01E01. Whoever wrote this episode asks 'way too much of the viewer. Benson and her son are driving into Manhattan and she's briefly blinded by a bright light as she exits the tunnel. And then she sees a truck with a young blonde girl in the passenger seat. Somehow she thinks the girl is in danger though the girl shows no signs of alarm. Millions of New Yorkers and she sees a random girl in a random vehicle and becomes suspicious. Later it turns out that the girl is a kidnap victim. Really? Oh, and the girl resembles an imported sex doll right down to an identical bead bracelet - WITH THE SAME NAME spelled out in beads? Really? This is a two-parter so maybe S25E02 will make more sense. We'll see..

A lot of buildup for...this?
joestaneck19 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
So I just finished this episode and after a lot of hype about the return of SVU and last season's cliffhanger of Benson and Stabler on a hit list, this episode did not satisfy. The hit list was not mentioned, Stabler was gone and they launched into a kidnapped girl who they later tried to find via a sex(?) doll made in her image. Was a ridiculous nonsensical stretch. And if you are looking for a satisfying/happyish ending, look elsewhere. And the episode was framed around Olivia narrating the beginning and end of the episode about why she wears the badge and some callbacks to her caterer at SVU. Seemed a bit self indulgent and wasn't needed. Hope this isn't a sign of things to come this season.

Ship Has Sailed
jmellon-3133819 January 2024
Was really looking forward to seeing the 25th season premiere tonight and felt it was a major let down. Loved seeing Carisi and Roliins but their roles have been vastly diminished and they really have nothing to do anymore, the show feels flat and boring. Tonight's storyline was nothing new, I miss the old gang, the acting, the writing was clever (with the exception of Fin) theres no camaraderie with the new cast members Valasco has no personality and doesn't even seem like a cop, bring back Rollins, Kat, Dr Huang, Barba and the pathologist, even Peter Gallagher as the police chief (the one now is terrible, one note and always annoyed). What has happened tothis show? I've always liked Benson but feel that her character is at a standstill and is not evolving. Sadly I think that the ship has sailed on this show.

Very disappointing
charleswx-4312728 January 2024
I know that it's a television show and it's not intended to be one hundred percent accurate, but, it does need to at least be believable. All movies and television shows use their creative license to make the show better and continue to flow but they're acting like the viewers have no intelligence or common sense at all. It started out as a really good episode but unfortunately it quicky deteriorated into a comedy of errors and unrealistic actions. It wasn't too horribly bad but it does feel like they've jumped the shark. Hopefully, this isn't a sign of things to come. They'd been going downhill for a while but it was a slow and steady downhill. This episode was like a drive off of a cliff. I'll keep watching to see if it gets better but I'm not holding my breath.

Tunnel Blind
bobcobb30131 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
SVU could probably benefit from some more episodes that are not resolved every week, but I don't know if this obsession from Olivia around finding Maddie will be something that pays off for the show.

I just don't get how they will not be able to find enough evidence to identify this individual. How many people could possibly steal the truck? And they can't find any Amtrak footage of him?

Strong start for SVU though. We can all breathe a huge sigh of relief now that our comfort shows are back, and hopefully they end up giving us a good, albeit condensed, season here in 2024 after the long wait.

You failed Maddie and us!
missesluvjones26 February 2024
Warning: Spoilers
In all the years and seasons I've committed to watching everything Law & Order, this was the worst opening in history. Things were going okay until the dolls were introduced into the picture. And then but the end of the episode, we still have gotten no closer to finding Maddie nor closing in on what seems to be some sort to prostitution or human trafficking ring. I was so highly disappointed in this episode and hope it is not an expectation of things to come. There was just too much of nothing going on and a whole lot of distractions that we as viewers didn't need. I want to hope that things will get better or perhaps this is a sign of times to come. Either way, I just hope SVU can survive through it.
