Are you kidding?!

Warning: Spoilers
This episode was poorly written, but it's concept was good. The episode starts out at the Krusty Krab, where Mr. Krabs fires Spongebob so he can save 5 FLIPPING CENTS, my Lord not even Scrooge Mcduck is that greedy, heck I wouldn't be surprised if he sold his soul to the Devil for a penny. Spongebob cries about it and becomes depressed, when Patrick hears about what happened, he says it's great that he was unemployed, heck the next day he shows him the "benefits" of being unemployed. Kids watch the show and unemployment isn't a good thing, this will likely give them the wrong idea that acting like a lazy bum is good. Luckily, Sandy tells Spongebob to find a new job, he goes to a pizza, noodle, hotdog and a taco restaurant, he gets fired from all of the jobs due to putting the food in a burger bun, I know Spongebob is a moron, but he should know that not all meals go in a burger bun. So he goes home and makes a vegetable salad like snail food for Gary, which really enjoys, so does Spongebob start a new snail food company with the new dish he created? Negatory. Then he gets kidnapped by each of his former employers saying they made a mistake and that the customers liked the way he made their food. Okay first off, they could've called him on the phone and not kidnap him! Then his captors are beaten up by(wait for it ) Squidward! Since when can Squidward fight like that? He rescues Spongebob and brings him to the Krusty Krab. Mr. Krabs apologizes to Spongebob and asks him to come back and work for him and the latter gladly accepts( I wouldn't, considering the stupid reason he fired him). So that was Spongebob you're fired, it is one of the worst episodes of the show, it's poorly written, it's stupid in an annoying way, the humor is forced and unfunny, there's pointless scenes and Mr. Krabs was quite unlikable(he's been the very unlikable in the modern episodes of the show). Oh wait forgot one more thing of what's wrong with this stinker, Patrick saying that unemployment is great! Watch a good Spongebob episode like Big Pink Loser, Pizza Delivery or Can You Spare a Dime(the episode has a similar plot with Squidward and was done better).

If this doesn't prove that Spongebob should be canceled, then I don't know what will

Warning: Spoilers
People, this is perhaps a PERFECT example of how lazy the writing is for Spongebob nowadays. Even the concept has been done already. And, just a little nit pick, the title even rips off "Mrs. Puff, You're Fired". Say what you want, it's still ripping off something that has been done already. The first sign of laziness is in the first TWO MINUTES of nothing but padded out filler of Spongebob doing kitchen duties, which adds nothing to the plot. When he's finally done making a krabby patty, Mr. Krabs taps Spongebob on the shoulder telling him that he's fired so Mr. Krabs can save a whole nickel (kind of like in BUMMER VACATION!) Then there are weak visual gags like "You're canned" (Krabs hands Spongebob a can), "Here's your pink slip" (puts a pink dress on Spongebob), and "I'm giving you the ax" (gives him an ax that slices Spongebob in half). Spongebob annoyingly cries until Squidward kicks him out of the Krusty Krab. Mr. Krabs then says from now on he'll cook the patties and that he was 5 time golden spatula in the Navy (again, wrong. He was a Navy Brawler and the head chef on the S.S. Diarrhea). Spongebob then goes home, feeds Gary, and cries about losing his job. Patrick pops up and is also crying because Spongebob is also crying. Patrick then enters the Pineapple through a window (unfunny) and Spongebob tries to tell him about getting fired for a minute with lame jokes with Patrick guessing what Spongebob got, "f-f-f- f---- free ice cream?!" (lame). Patrick then tells Spongebob that it's great that he got fired (great thing to tell the kids guys) and the next day he'll show Spongebob the wonders of unemployment. The next day, Patrick goes to the Pineapple and sees Spongebob in a mess holding a "Best Day Ever" mug. They then get breakfast by having Squidward throwing his fresh veggies at them. Then they try to take a nap on Patrick's rock and it is such a slow process. Spongebob puts Gary's slime on himself and fails to cling to the rock. Then he's just heavily breathing (to pad the episode more, seriously, these idiots couldn't properly fill 22 minutes to save their lives). Nothing of importance happens. The two then go to get some lunch at Sandy's, who just so happens to be giving away free, um, glop. A fish eats the glop and his head inflates (done before and unfunny), Patrick grows a second head, and Sandy prevents Spongebob from eating the glop, which is now suddenly revealed as some radioactive glop. Shouldn't Plankton be doing that instead of Sandy? Oh well, Sandy tells Spongebob he's falling apart and his brain falls out with his eyes still attached (eeeewwww!!!!) and tells Spongebob he needs a new job. Spongebob then sucks in his beard, and shouts, "I'm ready!" He sings that along (which hasn't happened since the movie) until he reaches a place called "Weenie Hut" (must be the father of Weenie Hut Jr.'s). The boss is Mr. Weenie, who is dressed in a hot dog costume, hires Spongebob who then rips off "Le Big Switch" but instead of everything he makes becomes Krabby Patties, he turns the hot dogs into sliders. Mr. Weenie doesn't like them, throws them on the floor, and fires Spongebob. Spongebob then goes to a pizza joint, taco joint, and noodle joint with the same results, HE'S JUST PUTTING BUNS ON THEM! When Spongebob was trying to make, for instance, stew and somehow gets a krabby patty, that's funny. Just throwing buns on other foods is very lazy and very uncreative. Oh yeah, and also unfunny. So Spongebob goes home and makes Gary some amazing snail food (though this doesn't explain why he couldn't do the other foods) and somehow Patrick also has some snail food, which he also approves of. The doorbell suddenly rings, Spongebob walks outside and is kidnapped by, oh God, weenie people (I'm really losing brain cells here people). Mr. Weenie tells Spongebob his costumers loved the sliders. You know, the ones that were thrown on the filthy ground! Then the pizza guy breaks Spongebob out, then the noodle guy nabs him, then the taco guy, you know how this ends up. Then out of nowhere comes The Killer Patty, that the four bosses know about somehow. The Killer Patty beats three of them up, Mr. Weenie gets hit by a bus (ripping off "Final Destination" now) and the Killer Patty takes Spongebob back to the Krusty Krab which is, big shock, in a mess. Also, hasn't Krabs learned that 99% of when they don't have Spongebob everything's a mess? The only time was when Patrick was the fry cook in "Bummer Vacation". The Killer Patty is revealed to be Squidward (somehow) and Squidward and Krabs tell Spongebob they need him back, which Spongebob says yes to. Quite frankly, Spongebob should have said no and make a career of making delicious snail food. There are no words to describe how awful this "special" was, I do not recommend it to anyone, with or without a functioning brain.

Worst Episode of the Show
jimmytubby28 February 2018
Warning: Spoilers
While this episode was hyped, this episode is really abysmal and not funny. they treat unemployment as a mean-spirited joke and the story is just filler. This episode is what caused me to draw the line of SpongeBob saying, "Well, SpongeBob has now been ruined." If any of you wanna see a much better version of this episode, watch "Model Sponge."

Awful Awful Awful Episode
hsp-5486829 June 2019
Warning: Spoilers
This is the worst special ever!! It's annoying, it's banal, and it's despicable! It should've never been made!! Okay, let me talk about this steamy crap pile of an episode right now. Enough talking. So, it has our idiotic hero having a fun time working at the Krappy Krab making Krappy Patties for all the customers to enjoy. Mr. Krabs then has a talk with Spongebob, saying that Spongebob can't work at the Krappy Krab and instead has to get fired because Mr. Krabs (more like Mr. Kraps) wants to save a nickel, which leaves Spongebob Crybabypants up in tears (Spongebob cries for the dumbest things ever I swear) and is miserably depressed for the rest of the fricken episode. Sandy tells Spongebob that he has to get a new job and then he gets a new job. He goes to a hot dog joint, pizza joint, mexican restaurant, and a chinese restaurant, in which he puts a top bun and a bottom bun on all the food!!! (Stupid Idiot!!) And then he cries again! (Immature crybaby!!) And then we see the managers in the food costumes fight with Spongebob and we see a guy in a burger costume who happens to be Squidward and then Spongebob isn't fired anymore. And that marks the end of one of the worst show's worst episodes!! Overall 1/10/-100000000/10

The Worst Special ever
kaiquepereiradesouza5 March 2021
For me this special was very weak and very disappointing, why is Mr Krabs going to fire SpongeBob for 5 cents? This is my second episode of Drawing and the worst spongebob special.

A weak episode but marks a fond farewell. Warning: Spoilers
On its own, the episode is weak. Mr. Krabs inexplicably fires SpongeBob to save money (he did so before to look for treasure in 'The Curse of King Krabbe'). He bawls for a long time, gets depressed for a long time (although at least he's kind to Gary), and when he tries to look for a new job, he can only make burgers (Pizza burgers, noodle burgers, etc.). I guess his employers hadn't watched 'Le Big Switch'.

Anyway, he's fired each time by his former employers, a taco chef, a noodle chef and a sausage chef, and kidnapped each time. But, fortunately, Squidward comes to the rescue (his karate lessons really paid off), and proposes to SpongeBob... that he come back to the Krusty Krab.

Anyway, the episode is just filler, and other episodes and comics ('Can You Spare a Dime', 'The Curse of King Krabbe') deal with unemployment much better.

The writers have done worse, though. Much worse. These same writers wrote 'Are You Happy Now?' (the one with the scallop cage) so 'SpongeBob You're Fired' is a big improvement.

The other thing worth mentioning is that Patrick is on a surprisingly good day here. He empathises with SpongeBob and tries to help him look for a new job. Usually he's an idiot, a jerk or both. So that's the other major improvement.

Now, I've only watched the episode in German, not because I'm fluent (I only know a little) but because the dub is excellent. And I'm fond of this episode (or parts of it) for one reason.

The episode marks a fond farewell to a very special part of the series: Eberhard Prüter. He was the German voice of Squidward for twelve years, until his death in October 2014, seven months after the episode's German airing. He was lucky to play the show's best character because he carried the role with charisma and conviction. For him, the episode had him go out on a resounding high. The fact that this episode is his last adds a special quality.

Everyone hates this episode with a passion, but it's not offensively bad like some others. It's just mediocre and predictable.

But worth watching if you want to see Squidward being cool.

Definitely one of the worst of the entire show
w-480697 December 2020
Not only this episode has a stupid way to fire SpongeBob and has way too much filler, but I think Nickelodeon wanted some "special" that will grant them high ratings, and it's the super attention grabby title, combined with how awful it was, makes me think this was a Nickelodeon executives idea and that the crew didnt want to make this.

The most underrated episode of the post-sequel era (to me at least).
TheReviewerPerson11 September 2018
This episode is really underrated. However, I understand why this episode gets much hatred (pacing was a problem here). The humor is really well made and the plot is engaging. All in all, I consider Goodbye, Krabby Patty? (the other season 9 special) to have worser execution.

Not a really good special
derpicassodp16 March 2019
It's just an depressing and sad episode, which sometimes tries to be funny, but doesn't really manage it. Also some parts aren't really rational. I also don't like the characeters' behavior. The first part of the episode was very bad, but the 2nd part of it got a bit better. It's just an forgettable episode, which lost much potential to be a good one.

It was plankton, who, disguised as Mr. Krab to fire SpongeBob, so he can steal a Krabby patty, secret formula. It must be plankton kidnap Mr. Krabs at the chum bucket, so he can disguise other Mr. Krabs to fire SpongeBob, to the steal Krabby patty, secret formula not for saving money. It should be change in this episode but this is WTF episode I was not like this. This is the dark ages of SpongeBob SquarePants season four to ongoing season I only like golden age of SpongeBob SquarePants 1999-2004 the SpongeBob SquarePants movie is the last golden age and I still like the SpongeBob movie 2 and I like it.
