A retrospective of the United States and its place in the world in the decade that was the 1920s is presented, focusing largely on the first year of that decade. Events, situations and people presented include: the effects of the just concluded Great War on its people; the election of 1920, which was perhaps more renowned for giving women the vote for the first time than the election results; the rise of the flapper; the plethora of slapstick and pratfall comedy both on screen and on the vaudeville stage; Prohibition and the resulting rise of the speakeasy; daredevil stunt performers; the visits of foreign dignitaries; the 1920 Summer Olympics in Antwerp; sports stars, both human and non-human; engineering feats such as the building of the Holland Tunnel; and showmanship being the focus for Broadway productions.
