Ram Gopal Varma gave Anurag Kashyap his first big break in Hindi cinema. They worked together as director-writer on several projects before finally falling apart. Kashyap spoke up freely and repeatedly about the creative corruption of Rgv. Tables were turned last year when Ramu got a chance to make a barrage of sarcastic digs at Kashyap for Bombay Velvet. With no love lost between Ramu and his former protegee, it would seem as though the best policy for them would be stay as far apart as possible. Fate, alas, willed otherwise. On May 27 Ram Gopal Varma's comeback to Hindi cinema Veerappan will clash at the box office with Anurag Kashyap's Raghav Raman 2.0. Interestingly, both are bio-pics of dreaded outlaws and cold blooded killers. While Ramu tells the story of the 'Sandalwood Smuggler' Veerappan, Kashyap's is the tale of the serial killer Raman Raghav (played by Nawazuddin Siddiqui...

Rakesh Roshan's Krrish 3 has become a far larger box office bet than what was expected.
The collections on Saturday were Rs.14.23 crores bringing the total collections of Krissh 3 for the 9 days release to Rs 189.91 crores.
On Sunday the collections crossed Rs 200 cores.
Rakesh Roshan reaps the entire profits alone since he has not tied up with any corporate production house for Krrish 3.
Says the jubilant producer-director, "On Sunday, we indeed crossed Rs 200 crores. Our total 10-day collection on Sunday was Rs 206.26 crores. What can I say? It's beyond what we had ever imagined."
Trade experts are sure that Krrish 3 has many many miles to go before it slips. The fact that Ram Gopal Varma's Satya 2 which opened this Friday is a wash-out gives Krrish 3 a clear week until the release of Ram-Leela next week.

“Itihaas gawah hai, itihaas tab banta hai jab kuch naya hota hai.” – Satya (2013)
Ram Gopal Verma had made it clear that Satya 2 is not a sequel to Satya, and he has evidently made no attempt of making this film look like a prequel or a sequel too. Satya 2 stands as an independent story about yet another man who aims to redraw the image of the underworld in the present time.
Satya (Puneet Singh Ratn) comes to Mumbai with a mysterious persona to recreate the underworld with his ‘intellect’. He believes in conquering the city by not repeating the same mistakes that the old players made. He is calm, but his thoughts are reflected in his eyes as he confidently plans his moves and executes them without the slightest hesitation. With his master plot, his ‘soch’ and his careful steps, Satya surely creates a lasting impression.

This week's major release is Ram Gopal Varma's Satya 2. It was expected that brand Satya would ensure at least a decent start for Satya 2. Unfortunately the film barely managed a 5-10 per cent start at an all India level. While certain quarters of the media feel that the film has been done in by Krrish 3 wave, but given the general buzz, Satya 2 would not have achieved anything substantial otherwise too. The box-office flight of Hrithik Roshan's Krrish 3 kept soaring higher an...

Film: "Satya 2"; Cast: Puneet Singh Ratn, Anaika Soti, Aradhana Gupta, Amriyaan; Director: Ram Gopal Varma; Rating: ****
Spot the difference. It's the same in all apparent details. Mumbai's underworld caught in a compromising position by Ram Gopal Varma (Rgv)'s camera prying into the mutilated lives of characters looking so scruffy and aggressive, you wish they would leave aside the bloodbath and just take a 'bloody' bath.
Yup, this is ostensibly a very familiar Rgv territory. But hang on. There is something very different going on here. Strikingly rich and articulate in production design, "Satya 2" is a startling original take on the evolution, collapse and restoration of Mumbai's underworld in ways that question the economical.

Mumbai, Nov 5: Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma's "Satya 2", touted to be his last underworld-based movie, is set for Friday release and he confesses that he can't escape the film's comparison with "Satya", one of his best works.
"Comparisons are inevitable, you can't escape comparisons. But once the audience enters the theatre and if we manage to set a premise, after that the film has to be true to the characters in the story," Varma told reporters in a group interview.
"Yes, audience will make comparisons between both the films, but I hope 'Satya 2' makes a mark for itself," he added.
Varma has clarified that.

The death threat to Ram Gopal Varma is far graver than it seems.
Contrary to reports the underworld threat to Ram Gopal Varma is because of any specific line in the poster of Satya 2 (suggesting that the era of Chota Rajan is over) but for no specific reason.
Says a source close to Rgv, "The reports that a particular gangster took umbrage to one specific line on the posters is false. When the cops intercepted the threat calls there was no mention of any particular reason for the threat. But there was specific mention of eliminating Ram Gopal Varma. That's when the Mumbai cops decided to act."
Three security personnel have been deployed at Ramu's home while four of them will accompany the director to his office.

With ‘Krrish 3′ arriving on Diwali weekend, there is a mad rush of films filling in theatres a week earlier, what with as many as five releases lined up – Mickey Virus, Sooper Se Ooper, Ishk Actually, Amdavad Junction and Wake Up India.
Ram Gopal Varma’s ‘Satya 2′ was supposed to release this week but owing to controversy surrounding one of the producers being named in a scam, the film has now been moved to 8th November.
Out of the five releases, the only film which has seen some semblance of promotion is ‘Mickey Virus’. It has a strong North flavour to it and the makers may be expecting a re-run of ‘Vicky Donor’ here. However, though there has been some promotion quantitatively, the impact hasn’t been the kind which would make audience queue up at the box office. The film has its chances in Delhi Ncr and Mumbai.

Mumbai, Oct 12: Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma says "Satya" in the title of his next film "Satya 2" should only be interpreted as a pseudonym. He doesn't want the audience to consider the forthcoming movie as a sequel to his 1998 crime thriller.

Mumbai, Oct 1: Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma, who explored the Mumbai underworld as a subject for his 1998 crime thriller "Satya", says its sequel explores a new kind of underworld which he believes can spring up anytime.
The trailer of "Satya 2" resonates his thought.
"Underworld is no longer the same as it was in the period of 1997-2004. But then something else comes... (when) you think that something is completely gone and will not happen again, that is when it comes back," the 51-year-old said here Monday at the first look launch of the film.
"A unique kind of underworld can come now which will completely make the other underworld look like nothing. That's the point (of the film)," he added.
