It's pretty decent

Warning: Spoilers
This show has a lot in it. A lot of emotion, a lot going about it. The soundtrack is superb, filled with emotion and meaning. The characters show major development throughout the show. The show is a long show, so we was expecting development, and we did. Not many shows nowadays have presented an anime in 25 episodes or so, a change in time. In this show, it went 5 years in to the future. Hikari, Manaka and Kaname had been hibernating and been in a deep sleep for these 5 years or so. They wake up, with the same look and personality. This is very powerful. Just imagine, waking up from a coma, and it's been 5 years. Everyone around you has changed. People from your life is gone. It's difficult to believe, because the feeling must be so surreal. This is where the show presents strong feelings. The romance, was an important factor. With lots of love triangles, it causes confusion, which could often leave viewers frustrated by characters actions. However, most of what's in this show is very good, and it gets a solid 7 from me. The show isn't a standout show, it's not record breaking. It just shows a lot of human emotions in a fantasy anime. It shows a lot of feelings. It's definitely worth a watch!

A whole lotta nothing.

This show can be summed up as a high school "will they won't they" that's full of love triangles. Unfortunately by the end, I didn't think it was executed very well, it wasn't satisfying, and it was even a bit disappointing. The romance here isn't handled very well and if you're here for that I would say look elsewhere.

The characters for the most part were alright, but they focus all to much on the romance for everyone and it's really infuriating as it takes away form the rest of their character. The main character at first for me was really annoying and I didn't like him, but he got better as the show went on and he became my favorite.

Other than that I liked the setting and some of the lore, but it wasn't fleshed out all that much and became stale toward the end. The opening theme for the first half of the show is really good and I never skipped it. Overall I wouldn't recommend this show even though there are only 24 episodes, as I think there are plenty of better animes out there similar in length.

I had a terrible experience
rcrredeption23 March 2023
I did not have fun watching Nagi no Asukara .

There is a group of people who lives under the sea which leads to conflict with surface dwellers which was interesting but character were too annoying.

Protagonist is kinda annoying.

Actually every character looked pathetic to me, people who can't pull thier weight in though situation that's what each one looked like.

Protagonist was very forceful in regards to romance which makes me empathetic towards the girl.

Animation was top notch . Background sounds were good.

Underwater scene were stunning.

If you ask me to watch it please don't.

Anime was stretched out, every episode each character sulking for thier crush accept Thier feelings which is totally annoying .

In another words there is no romance but a drama series that revolves around accept of romance which is not covered for the entire series.

It's anime original dome wrong.

Surprising

I wasn't sure what to make of it at first. A late night choice. It was a strange concept of undersea people, and an undersea town, but the story works very well. More so, the character development is some of the best I've seen in a long while. Keeps you guessing too, which is refreshing with so many shows becoming formulaic. Planned to only watch a couple episodes, and was surprised how quickly scenes became memorable. A little sad to see it's a limited series.

A Tale About The Sea God (Love Story)
ham-ma24230 January 2020
Highly recommended for those who want to watch something pretty deep and unique pieces of art, very high quality overall product. The animation is great, visuals are amazing and the story is amazing. The scenery is very beautiful (land and sea), character development is there and the drama is great, might poke into your hearts and squeeze it for some tears, if they ain't frozen yet *extra hard wink*.

It's a love story about a god of the sea and a woman that he fell in love with. The theme of love is the strongest in this anime, from the beginning til the very last seconds of the anime. The story isn't rushed, a perfect pace with plot twists that should be quite unexpected if you aren't familiar with it (I believe it could be based on some folk tale, because it's very vivid). There's some school life in this anime, but it doesn't matter that much.

Also in this story there's a lot of lessons to be learned about that the change is always possible if you strive for it and that there can be union even in the opposing sides, if they really put their differences aside and work together as one. Pretty beautiful.

Amazing Story But Worst Ending
hazmanama2 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This series is Really amazing it surely have love triangles in it. Yall have to watch it, but the last 2 episodes may make you kinda mad cuz it happened to me. This series have bad ending like the owner of this series got bored making it. Like he ended without a drama in it.. Thats why im giving this 6 stars, the series got many scenes which could make you wanna cry, it surely is an odd series, if they hadn't ruin the ending i would be atleast giving it 9 stars... But surely yall gotta watch this series if your into these genres..

Suspense: The guy shouldnt be with the main girl character who acts like a kid instead he shouldve been with miuna which was looking up for him till the end. Even when he was sick she was taking care of him and stuff..ut wouldve been better. Thats all i gotta say..

One Word: Wonderful
marananrafael30 April 2014
Nagi no Asakura was a very entrancing series. The details were very vivid and the characters are well developed in a suitable pace where the story takes you into itself. It was like the sea itself where you can submerge as a diver. Then as you feel the water around you, you realize how beautiful it is and that it was going to be a memorable experience.

The plot was well thought out and the idea of "sea people" and "land people" was quite original. Naturally, viewers would have a lot of questions in mind and the series would be there to answer the questions. I certainly felt immersed in the series. There were a lot to know and a lot to appreciate in this wonderful show. 10/10

More than a romance!
rehana-s-kazi14 January 2021
I started watching this series after seeing it on a top romance list on MAL. It's more than just a romance. It's about students and adults on land and sea trying to learn to tolerate each other and work together. There is really so much going on and the themes are as deep as the ocean. I watched the dub on Netflix and really enjoyed it. I highly recommend it.

Nagi-Asu: A Lull in the Sea
Tweekums11 April 2014
Warning: Spoilers
In this anime humanity is divided; most live on land but some live in the sea. The land dwellers are ordinary people but those who live in the sea can breathe both underwater and on the land. When the school in the undersea village of Shioshishio closes its students must attend the local surface school. The small group are initially not happy to have to leave their old school but gradually become friends with the surface. Time passes and things seem to be going well until it starts to snow salt; this is a sign that the sea dwellers must hibernate for an unknown number of years. Five years pass before the first of them wakes; for him it was as if no time had passed but his surface friends have all aged and he has no idea when the other sea people will start to wake. As well as dealing with their changing environment the youngsters have to deal with their feeling for each other and their surface friends.

This series was a delight; the characters were interesting and the story was surprisingly gripping. The settings, both above and below the sea were beautifully designed. The story is very much character driven with little time being wasted explaining how they can live under the sea… we are just told that the sea dwellers have something called 'ena' which lets them live under the sea and that is all. Surprisingly this is easy to accept within the context of the story. The romantic part of the story is nicely told and dovetails well with other events.

These comments are based on watching the series in Japanese with English subtitles.

L.A.M.E.

I ABSOLUTELY CANNOT STAND THE MAIN CHARACTER. HE IS SO RUDE AND OBNOXIOUS. THE STORY WOULD BE SO MUCH BETTER WITHOUT HIM AND THAT ANNOYING LITTLE GIRL WITH BLONDE PIGTAILS. ALL THE CHARACTERS ARE YOUR REGULAR CLICHE TYPE. YOU GOT THE RUDE GUY WHO THINKS HES TOUGH AND THAT HE CAN FIGHT EVERYONE. THEN THERES AN ANNOYING DAMSEL IN DISTRESS. THE TWO OTHERS NO ONE CARES MUCH FOR CAUSE THEY HAVE NO PERSONALITY. THEN YOU HAVE THE "QUIET", TOO MATURE FOR HIS AGE GUY THAT ALL THE GIRLS IN THE SCHOOL WANT. WHO IS ALSO AN ORHAN BEING RAISED BY A GRANDPARENT. MY GOD ITS SO PREDICTABLE IT MAKES MY SKIN CRAWL.

Good in all aspects besides romance
imortalclub3 November 2021
It is well developed anime with existing story.

It takes you on journey which you never know.

First of all the first part of anime is really great.

But ending ruined everything . The whole love Complexity shows in a story is just not making Sens. Why kaname not deserve chisaka.

What magic did Tsumugu did on CHISAKA in Five years.

Kaname loving her for a long time and he still Save tsumugu for her. He is always helping her.

So why? I don't get it so I don't like it.

Again I am saying ending ruined everything.

.... Waste of a great studio Warning: Spoilers
So.... Yeah, it was okay, great animations, honestly. Beautiful drawing style, and GREAT soundtrack. The animations were all really smooth, pretty, and out-of-the-world. The background and scenery - oh my word- yeah. The characters all had stunning designs, and they were all unique. The soundtrack knew when to blast it in your ears, didn't it? Yeah, it did. Some of their songs were stunningly sad. If they had placed it during Neji's death scene, I would've cried buckets.

Yeah, there it is. IF.

IF they had put it in Anohana, I would have loved it. IF they had put it in Naruto, I would have loved it. IF they had put it in Haikyu!! Or MHA (Not that they need it) I would've loved it. IF, IF, IF. Yeah, that one word that makes all the difference. IF.

Yeah, sorry, Nagi-Asu, but animations and music isn't going to cover up your horrible characters, 24 episodes of whining and crying, and your horrible, horrifying, cringey drama/love (whatever shape it's supposed to be)

The MC is borderline abusive, doesn't care about Manaka (Not that I do, honestly), and only worried about himself and his feelings. Sure, sure, yeah, they're kids. Kids have crushes. Yah, you don't need to be borderline abusive about it. (And why the heck would you like that whiny brat?)

Tsumugu just sucks. He's the epitome of the "cool, calm, 'I don't care about a thing'" trope. I mean, what the heck? The day I admit he's a good character is the day I admit Sasuke's character development was awesome. And Manaka. WHAT THE HECK YOU LIKE HIM. I really don't know what's going on in these people's heads.

Chisaki does zero justice to Kai (MHA). And she's a protagonist, for Pete's sake. I'm actually admitting that I like an antagonist better than a protagonist. (Okay, fine, Overhaul was a pretty cool bad guy) And oh my word, you ALSO like Hikari? What is wrong with you? So you'd rather date a borderline abusive guy than a perfectly good - no much more than good - kind guy who's ALWAYS BEEN BY YOUR SIDE???

Kaname, I have no complaints on his personality (I love him, actually) but I do have to do a double check on his mind. Okay. So the near-perfect, selfless, kind guy is in love with the bratty girl who doesn't give a second thought to his feelings. Wow. Wow. Wow. Please, Kaname, go find a better girl.

Honestly, the only character I understand in this show (I love Miyu's character but I don't understand what she ever saw in Hikari) is Sayu. If a guy like Kaname came around, I'd totally fall for him. Proves to show how dense they characters are if the only understandable one is a literal nine-year-old.

So yeah. My conclusion? Waste of a great music studio.
