Who pays for the new work?
jdorego5 February 2021
Love this show and unlike many others I do like Adam and find him very funny. Do you really think he should be nice to these crooks?

What bothers me is that they don't explain what happens to the money the people paid the bad contractors. Who pays for the material to redo the job? My guess is that the show pays for the redo and the crooked contractors get away with stealing the money in exchange for being humiliated and exposed on the show.

Great Show!
mmlisor7 December 2014
First, lets state the obvious this is a TV show. But that goes without saying. There are so many reality shows out there that really don't have a purpose for anything but entertainment. At least with Catch A Contractor they are helping people that otherwise have reached the end of their rope and are not sure what to do next. That is where the passion that Skip and Adam have for their trade comes through. Now in regards to Adam and his method of verbal beat downs towards the hack jobs that call themselves "contractors" SO WHAT! As far as I am concerned that is very mild, to what they should have coming to them. The only reason I gave a 9 and not a 10 is because there is always room for improvement. But this show, in my opinion is nearly perfect! I look forward to watching every Sunday night!

Reality TV meets Comedy
bboykin11 March 2014
This has the makings of a show that could go a few seasons. There is no shortage of people who have been shafted by bad contractors. There is a natural conflict build into each episode when customers meet deadbeat contractor. Plenty of emotion from suffering families. Feel good ending built in. Plenty of humor throughout. I was half afraid there would besome violence when they cornered the contractor. I think Skip or Adam could have handled it. Actually, I think Alison could have handled this first contractor. Carolla is a genuinely funny fellow. I have heard him on radio live and marvel at his ability to be humorous on cue. I can't think of anyone funnier than him off the cuff or better suited for live- roasting sheisters. His humor can be a little edgy, but hey, he's comedian. He is supposed to be funny. One of the few shows worth sitting through online advertisements for.

Best TV Discovery of 2015 (so far)

I have a special place in my heart for JUSTICE. And this show dishes it out in spades.

It's super FUNNY too!

I really like Kitchen Nightmares, Catfish, and the good episodes of Bar Rescue (where justice is dished), and now Catch a Contractor.

One thing this show has that the others don't: Adam Carolla. And he is one funny, witty, dude that PULLS NO PUNCHES.

Yes, Gordon Ramsey doesn't pull punches, and I love it, but Carolla does it in a way that's like he has no "editing function" - he says all the stuff others think, but don't say.

It's so great to see the scum get their comeuppance.

If you like the dry wit that's naturally funny without trying too hard, bad guys getting their as*es handed to them, and screwed people getting some restitution, you'll love this.

Very Entertaining
yankee-3493828 September 2015
Very entertaining show. It is amazing how many scam artists are out there and how many good people fall for it. Many of this people fork over their entire savings to these shady contractors. The set up of this show is great. Using private investigators, they find these losers and lure them to phony job sites where they ambush them. Ultimately, the show gives these "contractors" (the word is used very loosely) three options: #1. give the $$$$$ back (NOT!), #2. offer for the contractor to go back to the job site and help redo their shady, unsafe, and not in-compliance work under the crews supervision, or #3. the show will help the family take the contractor to court. Eventually all of these losers take the bait and agree to go back to the job site. The show captures more and more lies on video across and eventually the contractor is ambushed again this time by the family he deceived. At the end, these family's are left in a MUCH better situation. The construction work is top notch + Adam Carolla is very funny.

Good idea, but could use some work
weatherluvr121213 April 2014
This really isn't what I was expecting. I was expecting something along the lines of "To Catch a Predator" or "To Catch a Con Man". But, there was no investigation whatsoever with the suspect contractors. The hosts didn't do any sort of investigating. If they add some investigation procedures (i.e. paperwork, pictures, etc.) this show could be a little more interesting. This show is good for current contractors or anyone that is interested in any sort of construction/contracting. They really explain the details about plans and why they were bad or screwed up and the hosts, which are retired contractors explain what happened if the contractor really messed up the job.

Adam Carolla is extremely unpleasant
bgreenspatch4 December 2014
This type of reality show with lots of drama seemed right up our alley so we set the dvr and recorded a couple of episodes. Last night we sat down and watched both episodes. It doesn't take long to realize that the head actor Adam Carolla is an extremely unpleasant person. He used the "M" word twice in one episode, once referring to himself and the other time referring to the contractor. Now I am not bothered by this except when he said it both times were extremely distasteful. The worst part of this show is Adam's method of humor. He likes to demean people and he thinks it is funny. Specifically he likes to point out what he sees as physical, or mental flaws in others and make fun of them for it. The co-host's were there to be pretty and that was it. Overall Adam takes a show that could be good and makes it painful to watch.

Informative and Entertaining
Enunciated_Piffle7 December 2014
What a clever spin on To Catch A Predator, (another awesome show that did some good). Can't believe that's not still around. As an Adam Carolla podcast fan, I believe in public shaming. It's healthy. It's informative. It's why we converse and get a second opinion.

Anyway.

Adam is funny and good at pointing out construction mistakes. Skip is perfect for this show. He's big, buff, and totally knowledgeable about what is expected of a licensed contractor. He's also no one to F with when it comes to reprimanding no-good workers. His wife Allison is super hot and clever at playing detective and tracking these fools down.

Look. I don't even own a home. I rent. But I like the documentary/ real life facts of this show. They show how absolutely dangerous lazy and incomplete contractor work can be.

You learn. You laugh. You wish you went to the gym more, (like the Bedells). It's a great show and worth a watch.

He threw in the "M" word!!!
rainlilly817 March 2014
The show, called "Catch a Contractor" on Spike TV looked interesting so I have watched three episodes so far to get a feel of what the show is like. The show features two guys trying to catch bad contractors who are screwing families over. The families they find have usually given bad contractors money up front to do remodeling jobs and then these bad contractors run off with the money without finishing their jobs. The concept of the show is really good, because who doesn't like to see a bad guy get "busted"? However, I find that the show is a tad "cheesy". The main guy, Adam Carolla, is obnoxious and loud. If it weren't for him, I would like the show much more. His friend, Skip, seems like a solid, down to earth guy, which I like for a show of this type. I'm still on the fence about Skip's wife. She seems like she is doing a good job, however, it almost seems as if she is really on the show just for a "pretty factor". I understand this show is on SPIKE TV, so maybe I should just accept the cheesy and fluffy thing if I plan on watching it. This is not HGTV. If I had a choice of hosts for this show it would be someone with a personality more along the lines with Mike Rowe from Dirty Jobs. Adam Carolla goes over the top with sensationalism and episodes feel like a witch hunt with 20 people (camera & staging crew included) ganging up on one guy. I felt like this show was family friendly up until an episode I watched last night (3/16/2014). At the end of last night's episode Adam Carolla threw in the "M" word - about himself - which shocked me and made my stomach turn!! I did not want to mentally picture that nor did my young child, who was sitting nearby, need to hear that! It was thrown in there so quickly and unexpectedly. This is not the type of show for that nonsense. I have stopped liking the show completely! No more of this show for me!

This is a Hack Show
bobgolub5424 March 2014
The people are not real. You know reality TV is fake but this one takes the cake. The show is being sued because you can't be a phony the camera and audience will feel it. The reason I know is this has to come from the heart. You have to care about these people you are tying to help. Not just do a show to do a show.

They just wanted to take an idea from Bob Golub and put themselves in a show. YOU HAVE TO REALLY CARE ABOUT PEOPLE. Yes Adam was a carpenter but even that does not help the host Alison and Skip who are horrible host because again you can honestly tell they are just doing a show for money not to help people. Even the so called homeowners just want a free work on their house. This is my show that was stolen from me.

Great show

If Adam Corolla wasn't in this show it would've been a huge hit .He is so negative and causes so many problems with his terrible humor , I'm pretty sure he's the only one that thinks he's funny! He is killing it for me!!! Skip is the only one that knows what he's doing I am sure, because I am a contractor ! To bad almost had a hit show just picked a loser as one of the main hosts ! This show is destined for failure with Adam as its main host , to bad!!!maybe the producers will make changes before he destroys this show , it could do a lot of good for our business!! He has also said many inappropriate comments I even heard one in front of the victims children! Is anyone filtering this guy or does anyone care. I mean if your going to call out bad contractors on one hand and then on the other say inappropriate language in front of children , hmm not classy not at all!!!!

Terrible show
ksmith-286269 August 2015
Warning: Spoilers
I was very excited about this show when i first heard about it. I thought it would be something similar to NBCs How To Catch a Predator, but they are nothing alike. They are not going after people who really deserve what is coming. The episode featuring a contractor named "Ronnie" was disgraceful. All of the evidence against him was completely circumstantial and there was not a shred of proof behind it. Despite all of his legitimate sounding rebuttals to the shows questions, they continued to call them lies and began to make fun of him for the entirety of the show. For all anyone knows he could have been a bad guy, but there was absolutely no evidence to prove that. He just as well could have been telling the truth and the family was the ones who were making everything up. He did not whatsoever deserve the way he was treated for what little evidence was brought against him, and this is not a show that I would ever watch again. Save your time and don't watch this show, they aren't even funny and i cannot believe a producer allowed this to air.
